R32 GTR Bursts Into Flames at Drag Strip in Vladivostok, Russia

By Alexander Portnoy

ВокругАвто.ru

This summer during the finals at a local drag racing event, our R32 Skyline burst into flames. The technical staff later commented that the N2O system failed and caused a fuel explosion. Fortunately the driver (Mikhail Maksimetc) managed to escape without serious injury. This GTR was a good drag car, with a turbocharged RB26-DET with Greddy T8838GK and Jerico 5MT transmission. It made 850hp + 100hp on N2O, with a best time of 9.7 sec. This clip was taped by one of the spectators on his mobile phone.

actually i hate to break it TO YOU. most nitrous system require added fuel along with the nitrous burst. so a seperate selenoid controls fuel. if that selenoid were to leak or line burst it could catch fire. so it very well was a nitrous set-up failure.

i hate to break it to you but nitrous isnt combustable until added to gas it adds a high amount of oxygen and nitrogen (2 elements that gas needs to burn)and it caught fire under the motor probally like where intercooler lines would be i believe the gas line might have busted and the hot lines caused it to catch fire (ps leaded gas can ignite b/c of heat and leaded gas is racing fuel)them imports can build alot of power look at nascar right now toyota is dominating even after they made them cut back 15hp so say what you want but im starting to like them import scene more and more

I like how it takes a minute for the other driver to realize that he needs to get his car out of there so that he does not catch fire as well. That also had to be the most in-effective fire extinguisher ever. A good drag car is hard to come by, this fire is a sad loss.
