This Just In: New on the Net

By John Coyle

So yesterday, the Mars Rover discovered that there’s water on the Red Planet. The idea that water exists there is easily the coolest news I’ve heard in a long time. How long do you think it will be before they find evidence of beer? Anyway, here’s the news:

  • If you’ve ever bought a plane ticket to Australia, you know that traveling to the Land Down Under is super expensive. Well, it’s not any cheaper if you have to ship a bunch of show cars down there, and that’s why automakers are asking to make the Sydney Motor Show happen every other year. Drive
  • While everyone—including yours truly—has been focusing on the woes of the Big Three, it’s important to note that almost every car manufacturer is feeling the pinch, even the mighty Toyota. Sales were down 18.7 percent last quarter. Ouch. Jalopnik
  • The Mercedes SLC Gullwing has been spotted with its door open. The car is still heavily camoed, but unless they’re hiding a whole bunch of ugly under those panels,  this baby is going to look wicked hot. World Car Fans
  • Here’s a rare bit of good news: smart cars have been flying off the lot, so much so that the company is upping its sales projections for 2008. Way to go smart! Motor Authority
