Beware of Imitations: Fake Chinese Tomahawk

By John Coyle

Editor

The Dodge Tomahawk was one of the coolest concepts ever, and I’m still a little pissed Ma Mopar never brought it to production. Sure, the Viper-powered uber-bike would have reduced most of the folks brave—or foolish—enough to ride it to bloody clumps of freeway hamburger. But damn, what a sexy beast! And while the idea of a company making a knock-off is kind of appealing, when I first saw the "Tron Bike," I just thought; "No. No. Not like this. Jesus, No." Not only is the powerplant a measly 150CCs, but this piece of garbage looks like it’s made out of siding scraps and painted with hair dye from Hot Topic. And am I the only one that thinks that cheap-ass mesh looks like leopard print? Yuck. Five more pics after the jump. ATV Discounter via Autoblog

This conjoined crotch rocket is what Morbid Obese America needs. Don’t make you bodies smaller by ways of failing diets. Just make all your cars larger like your asses.

I’ve been hating ( I mean persuading ) there are some people who need to be aware of this product. It looks good, in pictures, but there is a reason no one is ever seen in the pictures. You really need to see a full size adult, or child for that matter, sitting on it to get the real feel for the size of this bike.

PLEASE BE AWARE

im a hater of this cheap fake,
but i must point at that one point tho..
its bound to be alot cheaper and not a concept
so to the poor buggers out their that cant afford the RT/10 powered Viper bike, there is light at the end of the tunnel.. even if that light turns out to be reflections of your own torch

on a personal note, i own the 2004 model Smart fortwo*, and id give anything to get the oppertunity to have a V10 to play with Tomahawk or Viper

*fortwo is zippy but i miss my old LS1

I think this is absolutely pathetic. Looks completely fake, and if the engine is only 150cc, I think thats is even more pathetic. It’s turning what would have been the most kick-ass thing in the world in to the weakest shit in the world. This is upsetting… Why don’t they redesign it and call it a moped.

TurboToyota4×4, Thats what I was thinking. And even if KY(not likely) said its got one wheel too many, than then I can see a 255 rear tire, maybe a Goldwing or BMW flat4 bike engine. I would like to figureout how the steering and drivetrain works, so I could make my own.

Not sure if the Tomohawks are STILL available; but for a while you could purchase them through I believe it was Neiman Marcus. To to the BS regulations and red tape; they were sold non-functional, as art work.. But required minimal alterations to run & drive.

I will stick to my Mopars as well, I too am in sales. I prefer the secure feeling of a 200K mile Dodge to a Chevrolet with 20-30K on it. My truck has been abused through over 200K miles and still feels tighter and more sercure than a 1 year old Chevy.

And Whiteboy.. Don’t try to hold up that Z06 as representing GM.. One car does not make a company.

This is a kids toy dude! Are you gonna go bitch at Mattel for making a barbie corvette power wheels now?

Jesus, grow up. It’s just a mini-bike like all those other 150cc pocket bikes. Damn full. I’d buy one.

I think there is something to be said for wanting a ride like this. For those that said “I always wanted the real thing,” could you handle it. Professional riders chose to turn down being the test rider for the Tomahawk. So maybe for the average person the low power of something like this is perfect. As for the gentleman that was trying to say something about people who own Kit cars, i.e. Clones. I own a clone GT40, my boss owns a real one. Mine has a V6 that gets 24 MPG in the city and cost only $34,000. My boss’s has a V8 gets 12 MPG and cost over $200,000. Are we getting it yet. If I wanted performance like his, another $50,000 would get it for me. The question shouldn’t be why did they make the clone, but rather how can I make it my own.

Well, i do give these guys credit for building a wild looking knock off of an already over-the-top bike. But it does just look like a cheap knock off. I’d still take it down the strip a couple times; it would still catch the attention of dumb easy girls (and isn’t that what life is all about anyway?).

And i have to comment on ChinaBoy’s comment. Mopar or No Car? You own 5 chryslers? Dude, I’m sorry. Really I am. Hope they’re under warranty. I sell cars for a living and deal with many wholesalers. Not even a Chrysler dealer really wants a Chrysler product hahaha they are disposable cars! I wouldnt even want a Viper, give me a ZO6 alllll daaaaay. *** GM FOR LIFE ***

Lame. Come on, the real one was very cool, but not streetable. This one would probably be worse. The actual Tomahawk had it’s Viper engine as a stressed member. This one clearly has a frame. Lame.

I LOVE IT!!!! I’m going to go to the bank in the morning and get a money order, skip work and drive south to Mo. to buy one tomorrow afternoon. Even if I can’t drive it to work and all, I’ll cruise around the neighborhood on it and park it next to my Lambo (also a clone) and make all my neighbors jealious. ;)

Later all….

OK, and if you bought my line of BS above, you deserve to own one of these too… For me… it’s MOPAR or NO CAR!!!!

Proud owner of 5 Chrysler products.

Yeah, I stumbled across this one a few weeks ago and I have to say, it’s a poor excuse for a knock off Tomahawk. In addition to it’s puny 149cc SINGLE CYLINDER engine, it also only holds 1.8 gallons of fuel and has a top speed of 50mph. Despite the appearance of being pretty good sized, it only has a 20 inch seat height and looking at the pictures…..if the seat is only 20 inches off the ground, that thing can’t be very big at all…..definately no where NEAR the size of a rear Tomahawk.

Aug 7, 2008 at 12:49 am

Jayemar, your wrong on 3 points.
1. To be considered as either a “motor vehicle”, the motor has to be a certain displacement or higher.
2. A Quad/ATV is a 4 wheeled motorcycle, and meeting certain criteria…people are riding them with license plates.
3. Chrysler didn’t produce the Tomahawk because it’s not cost efficient. But that didn’t stop the prototype company from making another one(or 2) for “must have” clients with deep pockets.

Been to 66 countries, and filled 5 passports, I’m a legal Research investor, that interviews attorneys, political leaders, govt. employees and business people to decide on investing there or not!

Been to China 5 times. 5th time I was going to invest $,$$$,$$$ coin & in Shanghai, 90% of the crooks are business people! Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie! Should be their last name! I complained to the American Embassy and they said that’s the way it is here! My wireless notebook got blocked, I got kicked out of 3 internet cafes due to bad mouthing China’s Ethics! I registered my passport, Drivers license & even changed Emails & did new emails, they knew who I was and blocked my emails. Very BAD NATIONAL FIREWALL! I had a VIP 1 year VISA!! I left after 5 weeks of dealing with Crook-Chinese, even the Bank of China is a bunch of CROOKS… they did not want to take my $250k for the IPO! In simple words, where is my “CASH TIP” to take your order! Fuck the Chingas! Since oil went up, a shipping container from China to California went from $8k to $13k per container. Now the factories are coming back to USA and Mexico! Container Transportation is kicking them in the ASS. As a matter of FACT, the National Economics Agency of China said Real Estate is KRAP now and don’t expect the Chinese Real Estate Recession to stop till 2011, which is about the same time for USA! Sad, I’m 50% 3rd generation Chinese. Makes me want to change my last name!

Probably the biggest reason you dont see a four wheeled “motorcycle” here in the states is because if it has more than 3 wheels it’s considered an automobile not a motorcycle and is therefor bound by it’s safety restrictions. Probably the reason why they never produced the tomahawk, wouldn’t work that well with a seatbelt I would imagine.

I have no idea why the Japanese would waste their time copying some oversized fat poorly designed bike in the first place is beyond me when they already make the most technicaly advanced biked in the world . .suppose they must have got bored and found some iron gurders somewhere in a scrap yard, then thought “this is just what we need for a bike that is under engineered and too heavy to be safe, lets do it for a laugh!” I love the fact that you Americans think your oversized bikes are the best . . when even our British bikes are better!, My dad has a Harley because it’s shiney . . but that’s about it!

So, why doesn’t somebody with a bit of money to spend try contacting Boss Hoss and have them make a version of the Tomahawk with a 350 or 454 in it? That is what they specialize in, V8 bikes. I doubt making something similar to the Tomahawk would be very hard for them.

-

Great idea! If any company is qualified to make a replica of the Tomahawk, it’s Boss Hoss. This isn’t really Boss Hoss’s style, but they are a lot better for the job of recreating the bike than what ever horrid company built this… Thing…

Its actually impressive that a company could spend time making molds, desidgning steering, suspension and drivetrain and totally miss the whole idea of what they were copying. But I guess that is what happens when you knock off a no holds barred idea and try and make it to a price point.

ok let’s face it… the bike is exactly how it should be in china. When was the last time that someone bought anything knock off from china that actually worked or looked like it was real. Go on ebay and you’ll see that. Yes it’s a shitty knock off, yes it looks like i can make it on garbage day sorting throught the neibourhood trash, yes it is underpowered….WTF did you expect from china. The only reason that the tomahawk didn’t make production is because the limited market, apart from myself and the rest of the meatheads like me on this site, who would put 500hp and 500 torque inbetween their legs and think it was fun. Dodge made american muscle for years and that’s what the tomahawk is about…..what cars does china actually produce, i can’t think of one. And if they did i bet it has no more than 200hp. That bike is a piece of shit, but come on what did you expect from a chinese knockoff, you might aswell buy one and put it next to a broken ipod knockout
