1990 jeep cherokee. bout for 250 dollars with a destroyed radiator. 275K, Blown transfer case, head gasket is gone, rear main seal is gone, severe compression resulting in exhaust leaking into my coolant and it refuses to accept actual coolant. elec fan broke, doors dont open, painted flat black, 2 inch hole in door, driver seat slants to one side, smashed everything. Oil leaks onto exhaust resulting in smoke bellowing out from every corner of the jeep, etc. etc.

I hear ya. I purchased "Grumpy" my 1997 Chevy Astro with 297K miles for $250 with the intention of entering it in the 2008 BA/BE Rally. Its PO used it as a cargo van for about a year, put 118K miles on it, and never cleaned it. It had a weak fuel pump and missing rear seats when I bought it. It leaks from the oil cooler lines, power steering doesn't work at idle, needs the fuel injectors cleaned, HVAC blower doesn't work, and idler arms need replacing. I spent $30 on a eBay fuel pump rebuild kit, found some free seats, took out the garbage, and vacuumed the loose stuff to keep the dog from eating it. It is currently sporting The A-Team Van stripe, a cardboard 7 slot Heep grill, and various Heep YK markings. The rear windows have www.baberally.com and "It's a Heep thing" on them. I find myself really enjoying cruising it around knowing that I have less invested in it than most people pay for a single car payment.

I have to tell you about my POS ,
especially since it is the same van , 1994 Mercury Villager GS .
I only paid $300 , but its worth about that .
It works , pretty well actually , but looks ugly and is pretty unsafe . It has a plexiglass rear window , big hole in the exhaust manifold ,stupid electric seatbelts that work intermittently , no dash lights at night ( pretty unsafe ) , no rear running lights at night ( daytime driving only , or you drive with the 4 ways on at night ,
what else ??? oh yeah rear door is busted , covered in rust ,
1 winter tire with 3 bald all seasons , also it had this ridiculous problem with the neutral switch where you had to charge the starter manually from the battery everytime you wanted to start the thing ??? how ridiculous and ghetto is that ???
Everyone gives me dirty looks when drive it in a good neighborhood .

I love this van though , super comfortable , handles well ,
very fast , good on gas , nissan mechanics .

I use this thing as a work vehicule , often driving 100 - 200 kms
per day in downtown bumper to bumper traffic , this thing is tough !

Much Mercury Villager Love !

I still love and have my '85 chevy custom deluxe suburban. It was an X North Dakota water department vehicle that has a 6.2L diesel engine, 400 tranny with about 230k miles on it. It sat for a couple years before I got it and mice had filled the mufflers with dog food so I cut them off and like Jeremy, replaced them with cheap 29" cherry bombs. I love the sound of the exhaust, with the stock 2.5" pipes it's really got some snap to the sound when you get into the throttle. The body is ugly dull tan which still shines where the water department sticker used to be on the doors and has enough rust and cancer too keep a body shop busy for a couple months. Again being as cheap as I am, I scraped the flaking paint off and sprayed over the rust. The grille was missing from a fender bender so I used industrial 1/4" thick steel mesh that I had laying around and made myself a grille that I dare any bird to duel. A chain and a tree to pull the dents out of the hood and she was good to go.

1989 Honda Accord DX hatchback, 91K orig. (not bad at all) but the body, is pretty much rotting off around me, it has a huge burnt tip fart can (cause im too cheap to replace the stock muffler), its also spray painted to look like the treuno in Initial D (jap vinyls and all) its an auto, 2.0 carb. its slow as hell, but at 35+ to the gallon i love the hell out of it. i also bought it for $200
