Incredible: A Kaiser Darrin on eBay!

It’s really amazing what turns up for sale sometimes—this ultra-rare Kaiser Darrin, just sitting in someone’s garage like any other project car, is apparently being listed for some old guy by one of his friends. Fewer than 450 of these beautiful little roadsters were ever made, intended as competition for the Corvette. The Darrin was actually the first fiberglass-bodied production car, narrowly beating the ’54 ‘Vette to market. But Kaiser was busy getting swallowed up in a complicated merger with Willys at the time, and discontinued production of the Darrin that same year. I’ve only ever seen one of these cars in person, while I was driving cross-country last summer, at the very strange and very worthwhile Pioneer Auto Show in South Dakota. Neat feature: the Darrin’s "pocket doors," which open by sliding into the fenders. Check out the auction—as of now, it looks like someone might even get a deal on this rare roadster.

Very nice Darrin. I’ve always wanted one of these cars. I think I’ve seen a couple of these.

In the 80′s I was working for a remodeling contractor, and the guy let us store our tools in his garage, He had a Darrin, just like this one, he also had a AMC Concord Eagle, a 4wd wagon thing, and a ‘Little Red Truck’ Don’t recall what his daily driver was, must have been boring.

Somewhere in the vicinity of Pickerington Ohio, If I recall

Only problem is – the doors slide forward into the front fenders.
