Probably Not a Good Idea
By Rob Einaudi

I think Dave wins the biggest POS award from the comments left on Mike’s post earlier this week. But this exhaust setup on his 1990 Accord looks pretty sketch. Seems like some heavy duty wire would be a better choice. What do you think?

It looks like that’s a nylon rope to boot – when it melts, it will probably fuse to the muffler. With any luck, all the melted goo might stick it on better!

I’m soooo glad I took my latest to the exhaust shop almost immediately after I got it so I didn’t have to worry about shit like this…

From the looks of things there wasn’t even reason to waste a good rope tying it on. Wait about two more miles and it will fall off.

I know for sure that bungie cord would do the job! I use to have one in my 91 civic and did not know until i went over a speed bump a little too fast and the exhaust started going up and down like crazy!

injected vehicle: who cares . its a slow burning slob with cool back end. A tight carb downdraft? There wouldn’t be hope with rope, just rip muffler off and drive like men used to.

We had to use twist-ties one time in order to make it as far as the garage

I think the yellow rope really offsets the rust color tone nicely. lol

LOL!!! you know there is at least one vehicle like this in everyone’s town. Though creative, i hope this was a fix so he could make it to the repair shop.

That’s going to burn through in no time. I tried that on my old truck, and it lasted maybe a day.

HA HA!
That is pretty funny!
.
I remember when I was a kid, the exhaust was falling
off my Dad’s Dodge Monaco. So, he tied it up with
old bicycle inner tubes, and traded it in that same day
for a new car.
.
Yeah, that looks like that rope could melt. Wire
would be the better choice.
.
Remember, every tool box should have three things:
1) WD 40
2) Duct Tape
3) Bailing Wire
.
With those things, we can fix anything
