This Just In: New on the Net
Yesterday, I flew home from American Lemans Race at Road America in Wisconsin. I’d never been to "America’s Dairyland," and one big thing I noticed about the area? Every store I went into had their beer fridges cranked way down. Seriously, I’d never been to a place with such consistently cold brew. It was awesome. Anyway, here’s the news:
- So, I’d assume that if a tow company was going to impound your car for parking in a given area somewhere, it would have to warn you beforehand. But apparently, that’s not the case. Are these guys evil bastards or what? Chicago Sun Times
- Ma Mopar is asking the UAW if its membership would be down to work four ten-hour days, and the proposal sounds more than fair if you ask me. Of course, I’d be happy with five ten-hour days. Automotive News
- For those of you who don’t know, right out of the box, the 520HP Lamborghini Gallardo is a wicked fast car. Some might even call it a 300lb illustration of the "wicked fast car" concept. But for some, wicked fast just isn’t enough. How does a Raging Bull with 930HP at the wheels sound? CarScoop
- Ford might have an awesome plan to bring its small cars home, but that doesn’t mean life is perfect over at the Blue Oval. Today, it laid off 300 workers from its Romeo engine plant. Freep

Let me just say that i have had my share of problems with this exact towing company in my city of Chicago. Long story short, they illegally towed my car from a lot where i payed a ticket to park in for 10 hours, after i got there before my time was up, they still towed my car. Luckily the parking lot company gave me back my money that i had to pay to bail my car out and they fired (or broke the contract) with that towing company. I guess they are loosing alot of deals so they have to find a way to make up for lost revenue.

I hope there is a special place in Hell for towing companies who pull this crap…

I’ve noticed a trend out here in my area regarding the towing of cars left on the side of the freeway and tagged by the Highway Patrol. The newer or nicer the car, the faster it gets towed. The more of a junker the car is, the longer it will sit on the side of the road as a potential hazard.
The logic is simple. The newer or nicer the car, the more likely the tow company will get paid by the owner that has to get their car out of impound. The more common P.O.S., as a rule, has a poorer owner who will be less likely able to pay the towing and impound fees.
This doesn’t make our highways safer, it just lines the pockets of the towing companies.
