Big Stuff Happening at CarDomain!
By John Coyle
Editor
Ok, while I can’t say for sure what’s happening to the site later, with the way all the IT people and the product managers have been running around, it’s sure to be big. The other sign? There are going to be bagels here this morning. Now, donuts show up all the time, but bagels? Bagels mean something big is going down. Stay tuned…

Since there are two threads covering the software change,
here is what I said in the other one:
.
.
I wasn’t too happy with the new system at first…
.
It took awhile to get my first page back up and presentable.
.
.
However,
now that I have made it most of the way over that
damned learning curve (OK maybe part way),
I do like the new system a lot better.
.
The old system, was well, old.
.
It didn’t have anywhere near the flexibility of this new system.
.
Is it perfect?
.
No.
.
But it is 1000 times better.
.
.
I, for one, am very happy with the time and effort the
CarDomain team spends on making this site better and better
every year.
.
Yes, it took me the better part of a day learning how to make my page better…
.
But, it is better!
.
.
Man, I still can’t believe that I have font choices, colored text, font size choices, etc…
.
Heck, I can even underline now!
.
I haven’t even considered any of the advanced features we now have…
.
.
I don’t know about the rest of you,
but I’ve gotten over my initial shock and complaining.
.
It’s funny. I thought CarDomain had a server problem, so I emailed them telling them the site was not working correctly!
.
Anyway, my page now looks GREAT! I love the new software.
I am very happy that I have some flexibility.
.
And for those of you with a lot of text, pages, and photos; I feel your pain, as I have over 2000 uploaded pics, and 19 pages to re-do.
It’s gonna take me some time to do it…
.
Still, it’s going to be worth it in the long run.
.
.
Just my .02
.

.
I’ll chip in if nece$$ary
.
He NEEDS them.
.
He’s got a FEVER, and the only cure is…
.
No. Not “more cow bell”…
.
He NEEDS Stickers and T-Shirts.

I thought half the company JUST got laid off – i don’t THINK anybody is “RUNNING AROUND” as you say. Maybe running to update their resumes.

Hey Chris – don’t be too sad about your HTML experience. Even with the new editor, there is a small HTML button. Hitting that will let you make some modifications directly to the code, which will still allow some cool tricks you can’t do otherwise. It’s only for the people who really want it!

If you make changes, they should be instant. If not, it’s probably just your browser cache. Hitting CTL+F5 usually reloads the page and clears cache.

ahh, a WYSIWYG editor. Very very nice guys. Though, I taught myself basic html coding creating my ride page many moons ago. It’s paid off more than you would expect. Oh well.

Yeah it takes a while to see the changes you made or they might look wrong. It took 20 minutes before my letters turned red.

Also note that you can put the year and month of when you bought the car and even the sad day that you sold it!

I just built out a new ride page for my gf’s car… check it out!
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3133610
When you click on a ride image you will notice the new 1024 wide image expand for all new photos uploaded. As for the presentation, with a few tricks you can use your large image (scale it down to 550 wide) in the ride page rather than the smaller images. Try it out and let us know what you think!

Every Wednesday is Bagel Day where I work, and there’s always something big happening here.

Bagels are indeed the Bellwether for change. Have one with raisins for good luck.
