Is It Ever Ok To Take Up Two Parking Spaces?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

This question was asked recently on VWVortex regarding exotic cars. I’ve seen a lot of SUVs taking up two spaces. The note below killed me. What do you think? Is it ever ok to take up two parking spaces?

You all talk about me being a non car guy because of what I said or that I don’t have anything nice or that what I do have was given to me such as Mommy and Daddy sponsored. No, wrong. I have a POS car of course but I also have a 1987 Camaro, a 07 Trailblazer SS and an 03 Cobra so you can all suck my balls. To the guy that said part of owning a car, nice or not, is dealing with knicks scratches and dents. If you don’t want them, park her at home. I wasn’t talking about people who take up 2 spots out in bumblefuck of the parking lot I’m talking about the jackass in the Mercedes at the grocery store who took up half of a normal parking space and half of the expectant mother parking space. I hope you enjoy having year round A/C coming through where your rear windshield used to be. Bitch.

Only attention whores take up 2 spaces, but what really makes me want to pour brake fluid on a car’s finish is when some ricer parks his Honda Civic (complete with carbon fiber hood, graphics, and oversized wing on the trunk) like it’s at a car show–taking up two spaces with the wheels turned. In some places that can earn not only a door ding but a well-deserved ass kicking.

Only time I’ve ever taken up two spots is if I need to run in a store 5 minutes before they close and nobody else is parked in the lot. I usually park way out in the lot. Good exercise and less chance for dings.

I would never try to give anyone a moral lesson by intentionally damaging their property, but when I had a beater I have once or twice pulled in next to someone taking up 2 spots and got out through the back hatch. I did this on the left of course so the person parked legally could still get in their car. Unfortunately when I got back out to my car, the moron taking 2 spots was still there and I had to crawl back in and squeeze back out of the half-spot.

Take two spots…….I will go out of my way to walk past your car with a key poking out of my fist.
I live in the DC area where parking is a premium.

I don’t worry about people taking up two spots… I park way out in the back of the lot away from everyone else. People taking up two spots are closest to the building trying to protect their vehicles or just carelessly parking. Of course I am trying to avoid the dings and dents, but I am also avoiding the pointless driving up and down every row just trying to find a spot. The spots in the back are always open!!!

If you see somebody parked in two spots go cry about it. whats it gonna change. just go look for another spot and quit your complaining.

Of course you don’t take up 2 spots – use 1 and only 1. Worried about scratches? Leave your vehicle at home and take the bus. Vehicles are to be driven, and the odd scratch is part of life. On ther other hand, you could do what I do; park at the extreme edge of a lot where short fat lazy people don’t usually park due to the walking distance. And it’s the short fat lazy people with little neck dexterity who cause a lot of the scratches and dents, so give them a wide berth.

If there is a way, I’ll park out in the boonies or an empty level so I don’t get nicks. BUt I’ve had d!@ks park up close AFTER I parked far away! The wife came home with our black Mazda 3 Sport having two door dings on the sides a couple of weeks ago. And she parks with one side next to open area of a wheelchair spot at work.
I didn’t yell at her. I yelled about whoever the piece of $h!* was that did it.
It makes me sick when others disrespect personal property. I worked hard to buy nice stuff. I may not have a + $30,000 auto, but damn, I want it to look nice. So, parents keep your kids from just swinging the doors open. And everyone else, if you can’t get out of your car without hitting me, park somewhere else or loose weight!

it all depends, if there is a huge empty parkinglot, i will definately “park it lik its hott” but away from being near the building, ihis guy that parked in a crowded parking garage is a dumbass, mabye he was trying to proove a point or something, but (if my cars werent as nice as they are) i would have done the same thing

I think its fine to take up 2 spaces, not like the suv did, but park diagonally so no one can even try to park next to you. i had a 1989 Ford Tempo GLS, one of under 1000 left in the world and i didnt want anything to happen to her. i parked diagonally in 2 spots wherever i went with her, i no longer have her, but i can only blame myself for the damage done to her. if u really car about ur car, find a spot where no one else parks. i now park my Mercury between a dumpster and a curb at work so no one else parks next to me. i just put the windows up so i dont get the smell. or i park between 2 ppl i know. there are better ways of protecting ur car, but i can understand the 2 space method.

Stumps–low level trash like you is whats wrong with the world. Just because you are jealous that some people have nicer things than you doesn’t make it ok to vandalize their property. I hope you do vandalize someone’s car and I hope they attack you with a baseball bat. Messing with someone’s car is justified homicide IMO

Haha, that note is priceless. I’m sorry, but the X3 in the picture above is probably parked right up front like a twat. I could care less how people park, which is why I’m generally parked out in BFE, taking up as many spots as is physically possible. I can’t say I’ve ever driven anything that even costs more than $20k, but I park out in the middle of nowhere BECAUSE of how a great majority of people park.

Just because I don’t really care about my car as much as some others doesn’t mean I want some dumbass putting dents in it…

Ok first if you piss between 2 urinals that would be on the wall and floor idiot so not the same stuff we are talking about. And from what I have seen here this is why some of us take up 2 spots. So till you hillbillies stop denting doors and sending carts into our cars deal with it. Next time I see someone do damage off duty to a car that they dont like the way they parked I will be doing some overtime and taking them down to the station. So be prepared what goes around comes around and I make my rounds quite often, plus I dont mind doing a little extra work and arresting those that do pointless vandalizm.

I have an exotic sportscar and if the parking lot has lots of empty spaces, I will park way far out and take up 2 places. If the parking lot is close to capacity, I still park as far out as I can, but only take up one spot. It never fails, anytime you have an exotic car, someone is going to want to park RIGHT next to you. I don’t do it to be an asshole, I do it to protect my car. The one time my car was keyed, I was taking up ONE spot far away from everyone else. I hope whoever did it dies a slow, horrible and painful death.

All U haters suck! Just because you have crappy ass cars; you don’t care if they get dented. “Piece of metal”??? U shouldn’t even be on this site. I love my car…may not be the greatest, but it takes me 2hrs to wash. And yes it is keyed…even though I don’t double park. But it’s a horrific feeling when someone scratches your baby…especially after taking care of it so much. It’s like if someone hit your child…and on that note…PARENTS…please tell your children to be careful opening doors. Parents are responsible for teaching their children RESPECT and obviously the parents of the people that who would scratch another person’s car failed at that.

Who in the hell takes up two parking spaces? Thats whats wrong wih this world, I own a nice vehicle and you dont see me taking up two spots. Thats just asking for it. If you take up two spaces, I’m gonna dent your rear bumper then park somewhere else. And yes I get very hostel with rude asses!

Well me personlly i dont really care about people taking up two places or not at the back. But i do however feel that if you are parking up close that you should park as perfect as you can. Me personally I drive a 99 Mustang GT and have put alot of time in my body and even double that under the hood. Which brings me when i park i do park at the back of the lot however when i park there i still dont take up 2 places. Maybe mainly b/c i dont want to come out and my ride be towed or have some wacked up fine under the blades of my car. Lol. Guess when we park at the back we know that no one will park out there to hit our cars (except for the idiots who just decide to take up one of the hundereds of spots next to us) so why double park i could you could ask. And if it’s christmas time dnt drive you precious vechice and thnk that you can park away from everyone. When it’s common sense…………well you know. -Rob

I’ve got two Cobras and I double-park at the farthest end of the lot when the situation permits. If the situation doesn’t permit, then I only take up one spot. One of my Cobra’s has the Mystic factory paintjob of which there are only 2000 of. It has quite a few scrapes/scratches from jealous assholes, especially one really bad mark on the front bumper because my girlfriend didn’t park the car in the back of the lot like I told her to. Its going to be more than $5000 to repaint that car because of the scarcity of the paint and the complexity of its application….do you blame me if I take up two spots with that car?

Only douche bags take up two spots, close or far. It’s a hunk of metal losers.

Aug 25, 2008 at 10:38 pm

I would say the only acceptable time to take up two spots is when you are driving something in the 100k + territory and will turn heads and get respect. Thats the only time its permissible.

David
Aug 25, 2008 at 7:57 pm

I rarely take up two spots but I always park far out. It doesnt bother me really when people take up two spots aslong as the car is somewhat nice. If it is a 500 dollar beater then yeah thats stupid. I always ALWAYS ALWAYS park my cars far out at the very edges of the parking lot and 4 outta 5 times some idiot will park next to me. I have a 2000 Trans Am and a 2004 corvette z06 and I take very much pride in my vehicle and would NEVER ding anyones car or anything like that. But I rarely take two spots, but I probably will because of the morons parking their heaps next to me in the middle of no where.

Terry
Aug 25, 2008 at 2:36 pm

I think the problem is with the regulated space required to build a parking lot. The individual spaces are too small. But because that will never change I always drop my lady friend off at the front door and I always go get my car and pick her up at the front entrance while parking way away from the front entrance. I drive a 1978 Corvtette I restorred and when I don’t drive that I’m in my orininal unrestorred 1988 Corvette so I always park way away from the front door no matter where it is I’m going to. That way people will not be forced to park right up close. No one really wants to scratch our rides, they just get mad because someone thinks they’re car is better than theirs. And we all love our rides because they are an extension of who we are.

Dave Flores
Aug 25, 2008 at 10:29 am

I agree with most on the board. It’s fine to double-park as long as you do so as far away from the entrance as possible. Wanting to keep your car clean and pristine isn’t selfish. But forcing people to walk farther than they would have by taking up two good spaces is. The lowest rung in Hell, IMHO, is reserved for: people who don’t flush in public restrooms, people who park in handicapped zones, and people who take up two good spots because their car is more “special” than everyone else’s.

Thomas Murden
Aug 25, 2008 at 10:04 am

taking up 2 spaces is fine as long as you park way out in the other side of the lot !!!!and even when i park the monte or my camaro way out there some one all ways has to come park next to me !!! i mean where i park it is the only car in that part of the lot ,so there is like 30 or so spaces so why park next to some one who oviosly doset want you neer them ????

Dont B Rude
Aug 25, 2008 at 2:41 am

I’ll scratch as I go by, no need to take up 2 spots. If you’re parked far back and away from everyone, then thats ok, but if you’re taking up good usable space, I’ll scratch or pop out your side mirror and steal it.

Andie
Aug 24, 2008 at 5:45 pm

Ok so here is my thing. You never seen people bitching about trucks pulling boats and parking them through like 4 spots. They don’t complain because they park away from the close spots. Also I have a Trans Am that has extremely long doors. So double parking in the middle of no where shouldn’t be a problem…

paulie
Aug 24, 2008 at 4:21 pm

there is a time and place for double parking. you are not selfish for trying to keep something you worked very hard for and that you prize dentless. for all you ppl who say u key the car without a note, id love to see u get caught.. someone keyed my bmw at a grocery store and thought they were getting away with it until i went to security in the store and had them check their tapes..lady got criminal charges pressed on her. for any of you double parkers..just stay in camera view and check your car when your ready to leave

Tiffany
Aug 24, 2008 at 3:45 pm

I take up 2 parking spots all the time BUT I park as far away from everyone else as possible. If it’s not possible then I park in one spot and I try to make it next to a curb so one side is at least protected from getting hit by the idiot who decides to park way to close to me.

Aug 24, 2008 at 1:18 pm

LMAO… I am mad that I didn’t think of this. As far as parking in two spaces, not cool at all. If you cherish your material item that much, YOU go and park it in Timbuktu and YOU take you lazy a$$ and burn off some extra calories.

Aug 24, 2008 at 12:27 pm

yea, i think if u double park, ur just askn to get ur car keyed or scratched, it may not happen the first couple times u do it, but it will happen, double parkin like that is just gonna draw attention to ur vehicle and maybe give someone the urge to mess with it, in my case, when i know im goin somewhere where theres limited parking and the spaces are small, ill take my beater, ill give u an example, i was at the casino in miami last week, the spots were good size, i find a spot right in between a cadillac escalade and a bmw or something like that, both nice cars and both owners were over their lines a bit making the spot in between them a little more tighter to get into, but i was in my beater and pulled it right in there, and i must say it was little tight getting out, but i dont care if this car got any scratches or not, long story short, i come out of the casino after a few hours, and there were two different suvs parked on either side of me a bmw and mercedes i believe, and man u could just tell the owners parked as far away from my car as they could, i thought that was funny

Imagine a dude in a bathroom, standing in between two urinal stalls and only using one. Inconsiderate? Self-conscious? Probably a little prick.

If you wouldn’t piss like that, why would you park like that? If you’re so worried about your car, go park it in the boonies and walk in as opposed to being a self-important jackass.

Sorry guys, but I religously double park my car. I just recently had my car repainted to a custom black with a metalic flake undercoat that makes the body of my car look like carbon fiber when the sun hit’s it. I just know if a ding would apear it would totally lose some of the appeal of driving something of beauty. However, to be fair and conscious of those that are hear bitching because their just lazy, I do have the rule of parking in BFE (Butt F*uck Egypt) side of the parking lot, as I prefer to take a nice walk to my destination, and still have the benefit of lowering my risk that an inconsiderate and/or ignorant jackass dent’s up my door, or for those parents out there that can’t teach their kids not to brush up against a car or put their hands on the car (It’s like “Come on guys…what happened to respect”? Is it that lost of a philosophy? .

And if I know I am going somewhere that the parking will be extremely tight…I take another vehicle…or park and take a bus. I have standards….but don’t assume my or other car enthuisists actions of double parking are that of selfishness as much as it may possibly be the actions of appreciating something we value and respect- our cars.

I am sure that all these haters would just love tohave thier car keyed. Well Beware if I catch you doing anything to a car not yours I’ll shoot your a$$. and then ask you why. My truck can not get into some of these small places and If I do go in straight then I stick out into traffic flow. and I was site for an accident becasue this woman cried that my truck was sticking to far out. SO stay in your own world and mind your own business. park some where else and get made at grafitti taggers instead.

Edkumar

I think that tsking up two spaces is definetely a NO NO anytime. It just shows selfishness the pure inconsideration of the individual and yes I would love to scratch the car BUT love cars too much to take it out on the car. These owners have a big ego but are insecure.

Honestly, that shit really, truly does burn me up….I recently took a trip to the aquarium, and as much as the $30 ass raping for an hour of parking sign set me off, it wasn’t until I actually entered the garage to discover that my incredibly oversized (theoretically speaking) performance 4 door couldn’t fit into the damn spots! Seriously, you have these jackass BMW, Audi and Bentley (maybe just that day) drivers that just pull horribly crooked into a spot, and then when another driver comes along, “Find another spot” is the universal answer. Well just for the record, in tight parking situations like a rip off parking garage, USE ONE GOT DAMN SPOT! Much easier, and much more efficient. Except for certain wide performance cars of the super duper expensive nature that wouldn’t even be at an average parking garage, 1 spot is more than enough. Take the time, pull the car in straight. Or back it in straight. Or if you can’t properly park, have someone else do it. Or if you’re by yourself, come back when you’ve purchased a Smart Fourtwo or something comparable in size. Problem solved.

Taking two spots at the back of a Parking lot is acceptible to me unless parking is limited. Two spaces up front is a NoNo. It pisses me off when those who feel there car is too precious to park out back want to park up front and then take two places. I have a 08′ and a 85 Truck so yeah I take two spaces at the back of the lot when parking isn’t limited. But if I’m out with my buddy and driving the 85′ and catch a car up front 2 spacing it. We will get you. It’s kinda hard to scratch, dent or flatten someones car when you can’t get into your’s to leave. and there’s never an argument what can you say. Two Spacing it is wrong anyway you look at it. I just try to justify it by parking at the back of the lot. BUT IT’S STILL WRONG!!!

that dumb ass deserved it, x-5’s are not nice enough to get 2 spot priveleges, id leave that to ferraris lambos, veyrons, various exotics. im not dick. imnot gunna scratch anybodys car cuz there douchebags. cuz if you actually love cars you probly wouldnt have the heart to do it. however they mst be at the back of the lot, if the whole lots pretty much full and they do that but still in the back im ok with it. i assume they got there before it was full. concert or large events arent exceptable if its a full lot. but again if i see it i wont be a dick. that said, people like marky99 DO piss me off, if i see some dick park right up next to a M5 or a porsche or something parked in the back just minding his own business trying to protect his car ill beat the shit out of his car til theres a hole in the panel. thats just unnecessary, and unprovoked. serves the guy that parked close to the nice car right, thats just being a Dbag, and if hes willing to do that he probly doesnt car about HIS car so i have no qualms about wailing on vehicle. to sum up, be a dick and ill destroy your car, take 2 spots, whatever, long as its not in a prime location. i myself havent ever, but should i id expect people not to be total assholes and key my car for no reason

I only do it when there are not any handicap spots open. It’s not my fault the spots keep getting smaller and smaller.
I’m glad I don’t have to worry about parking in tight spots anymore.
The car in the original picture should have parked sideways more to keep IDIOTS from trying to park in either spot. Personally I would try to hunt down that fool that left the note if it was even real.

The problem today has many layers. Developers cram more spaces into parking lots so that they can cram more vehicles into the lots. The spaces aren’t big enough for anything larger than a Prius, but we don’t all drive a Prius, do we? Car guys know the drill…take your pride and joy to a mall, shopping center or theatre and you just park out as far as you can. But even then, the guy in the ‘88 Cutlass Cierra wagon with the vinyl wood trim and the “See Rock City” bumper sticker parks right next to you just to be an ass. People will always be jealous of someone with a nicer, cleaner bigger or cooler ride than theirs. Take up two places, absolutely…but car guys respect others because they know what it takes to keep their own things nice. Too bad the rest of the drivers don’t take a moment to respect their efforts but do take enough time to be haters. I’ve had shopping carts against my vehicles. I’ve had door flingers scar up my finish. I’ve had the family truckster with 47 sticky barefoot kids run their Happy Meal crusted hands all over my windows. It’s not the size or the cool of the vehicle, it’s the lack of basic respect.

HAHA that’s at the Irvine Spectrum parking garage, the same one where I saw a HUGE Excursion scrape against a parked Tahoe as they were pulling into the spot. My thoughts on taking up two spots is this: don’t do it unless you plan on parking in the back of the parking LOT (Unacceptable in a garage) and it is also a no-no during November and December. Also, don’t do it at the beach unless you like flat tires.

Well, I drive a 2008 Shelby GT, and since it has taken me 50 years to finally get the car of my dreams, I take great care in where I park it. I may take up two parking spaces sometimes, but I am always at the outer limits of the parking lot too…so if it offends you that I’ve taken two spaces and walked a mile to get to the mall, you can bite me! But I know that there are some people who will park just as close to you just because you took two spaces way out in the middle of nowhere too…they deserve to be shot on site! People have just become butts any more…noone cares about anything that isn’t theirs and most people don’t even care about their own stuff because it has been given to them by someone else…I WORKED FOR MINE, SO STAY AWAY FROM IT!!!

I am very concious and careful everytime i pull into a parking lot, however i have accidently damaged paint on 2 peoples cars from my door.In part from wind or slope. Some times it cant be helped. I think using 2 spots is kinda silly, and only acceptable if the lot in your area is empty. Even if its 115, i park at the far end of the lot, and hug the curb whenever possible.

oh before wanting to put the lug wrench to someones skull, i consider if it was a slam or a nudge.

And remember me. I dont scare easily. If you make marks on the side of my car I do have a license to carry. I wouldnt make marks because really, what goes around comes around. And now all you asses are warned as well when you purposely make marks on someones car I will call the police if it is someone elses car. If not dont worry the police will already be there!!! Enjoy being locked up if you mark my car!! And I do mean my personal car…..

Austin Wright
Aug 22, 2008 at 1:04 pm

Its because people dont want scratches from careless idiots that swing the door open without looking or caring. I had a guy do that with me in the car. Only when he looked carefully into the car did he get a scared look on his face. I just informed him to not be so careless when opening the door. I take 2 spaces when I park next to either a large pickup SUV, or rust heap,(Most of them dont care about how they swing the door open and dont care what happens)

Plus I have an alarm system so that if someone tries the above I suggest they run very fast as I will be shortly behind once being paged. Plus if they do that it tends to get them into trouble with the police for vandalism….

Many people are just knobs and don’t give a crap about their cars. They just park them anywhere. Many people at grocery stores are just to friggen lazy to put their carts back and leave them beside their car and drive off. No consideration about other drivers whats so ever. So with that being said, yes at times I do take up 2 spots, but it is ALWAYS at the furthest spot possible. But I always park as far away as I can, just to avoid these inconsiderate idiots that feel they have to park within inches of your car. But in that picture above there was no need to take up 2 spots like they did. When parking spots are few , then NO do not take two spots, because for sure someone will mess with your car.

I am and always have been a car guy. I’ve had my share of crap cars and a few nice ones. Regardless of the condition of the car I have I still try to take care of it and don’t appreciate it when someone else absentmindedly slings their door open and hits my car. I respect other people’s property and wish other people did the same. I take two parking spots in the parking lot where I work so no one will park beside me since one of my last car’s got dinged. I don’t do it when I’m out somewhere else though. As far as people that think it’s funny to key someone’s car, they obviously haven’t had that happen to them. My last car was a 98 Camaro and within two months someone keyed the driver door. I don’t think anyone has ever seen me so pissed. If anyone ever does something deliberate like that to the Cadillac that I currently own and I find out who did it I won’t have to worry about my car anymore cause I’ll be in jail. At the very least they’ll lose a finger or two and possibly lose the option of reproducing.

Note for all of those to consider if you find it neccessary to get near my vehicle in any way what so ever, I target practice for a reason and I will go to jail for murder, I’ve already done it once. I’ll go back I don’t care, you fuck with my car and you die. Sometimes I’m in a better mood and I’ll just break your leg but more often than not I’m going for blood. In all honesty though I don’t want to shoot anybody, so I will just cut your tounge out and burn you alive while your tied to a stake and your family is forced to watch. If given the opportunity I will probably anally rape all of your family members first regardless of sexual gender. Don’t ever fuck with someone’s nice car if they take the time to park out of the way or close to a curb. You sir are one who does not deserve the breath of life and I will be the one to take it from you. :) P.S. If two spots are taken in an area where there are no extra spots or at a large venue or galla event, then there is more justification for reminding that person that such a parking manner will not be tolerated. LOL :)

I use 2 spots when I park my WS6 Formula(1 of 473). Recently in a NON-car-”guy” left me a note with a nasty name on it, I might have left him a note if I knew which car it was from. One time a retard left a 1″ ding on my XJ6 and another time backed into the front bumper and did damage to it. So, when it comes to one’s “pride and joy” and parking is plentiful, park a little farther away. Plus it doesnt hurt us if we need to walk an extra 50 yards. To the NON-Car-Guy, maybe you could be a bit more sensative to other’s belongings, if you charished your car as we do, YOUR perspective would be much different.

Only inconsiderate morons take two parking spaces. If your big ass SUV doesn’t fit in the compact car space, then move it to battleship row, and walk the extra distance. Or just get used to being keyed, and spit on…..

I take great pride in parking as close as humanly possible to people that take up two spaces. Sometimes I even park so close I have to CLIMB OUT the passenger side, just because. Now this isn’t a sarcastic crack at people that do it, I ACTUALLY do! Also, what I think is worse sometimes depending on my mood is when people who just plain can’t park, not that they have a nice car, not that they are taking up two spaces so that their fat bubbly fried food rear end can shoehorn themselves into their Miata comfortably without the jaws of life but simply because these people CANNOT park and take up 1 1/4 parking spaces. Those people are the worst offenders and don’t be surprised if you have new pinstripes down the side of your car over your trunk, or two tires are flat since you only have 1 spare! Again I would like all of you to note that this is in no way sarcastic or me just joking around, and there are more out there like me so next time you roll up to the mall whether it be in your 1986 hatchback or your 2008 Mercedes and consider taking up two spots, think twice. You never know where I will be, what mood I will be in, or when I will strike.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

“I’m 19 and I have an 08 IS250 and I worked hard to buy it”
Oh, mommy and daddy didn’t buy it?
In high school, I wish I had an after school job where I could save up $35K to blow within a year of graduation… please now if it weren’t for some sort of financial help, you would be in Civic as well. “…little teens with there $200 Honda Civics” Don’t hate on people YOUR OWN AGE that can’t afford a $35,000 car at 19…

Also, “next to a median hugging the curb” is probably your best bet…

If you park far away from other cars intentionally, other people will notice, and you have just provided someone with entertainment when they, also intentionally, park as close to you as possible.
Same goes with taking up 2 spots. People know why you take up 2 spots, and you provide someone with entertainment because you think your nicer car gives you extra privledges, and there are plenty of people who get a smile out of being an asshole and would be glad to ruin your ‘double spot’ security.

At one mall, someone parked diagonal through 2 adjacent spaces, not at the back of the parking lot, but away from other cars. I don’t know if it was right or wrong, but it was not ‘in the way’. Regardless, two cars intentionally parked in the spaces on each side, right up against the line… Thus the diagonally parked car was trapped in.

Hug the curb, park next to ‘nicer’ cars that you feel will respect your car as well, leave more room on your passenger side/their driver’s side (because someone always has to drive the vehicle next you, not always is there a passenger), even try to park near the back where there are fewer cars…

BUT don’t do something obvious like park in the very back, out in the open or take up two spots…. you are not the only one who realizes you are parking there to protect your car. It is obvious to most, and it WILL be fun for someone else to screw with you or your car.

I parked my car in one of the front spots of a grocery store. I came out and lo and behold there was a HUGE dent on my car. Long stry short I got that lady to pay for the damage she carelessly did to my car. MOst people do not care about their cars! For those of us that do, I say “take up as many spaces as you want” because if you don’t other people will carelessly hit your car. It has happened in the past it will continue to happen.

DON’T BE AN A**HOLE
when it comes to parking in two spaces, its at your own risk. if you park out in the middle of “no-where” in a parking lot, by all means take up as many spaces as your ride is long if you wish. but if you choose to do something that arrogant in a crowded lot, Every scratch, ding, or dent you get, you DESERVE.
i parked in the BART Lot one day, and came back a few hours later to find my drivers door inaccessable, thanks to some rich guy, an his Brand New RangeRover
i had to CLIMB THRU THE PASSENGER SIDE, to get behind the wheel.
needless to say, he had a 3ft. scratch, straight to the primmer down the right side of his Rover.
it all comes back to: CAN’T PARK IT, DON DRIVE IT

1. if you do not know how to park don’t do it!
2. people with nice cars do it because they are tired of parking out in the north 40 and still having someone park right be side them and give them a dent or some paint when there are hundreds of other parking spots
3. the lines are put there for a reason that reason is not so you can find the center of your car
4. if you own a crapy car and take up 2 spots, it is not our fault if you are missing some parts off of your car.

I don’t even take up two spots with my Dually. I worked hard to get it like it is, but I also park away from everyone else. Only thing you have to look for is a sign that says “PARK IN MARKED STALLS ONLY” Oh, no sign for where you’re parking? Take up 3 spots. Those lines are more like Suggestion Indicators aka “Where they would like for you to park.” Just another thing the gov’t think they have control over us. Now, people might take offense at that, but, where’s the sign that says to park in marked stalls? You might get a dent/ding/scratch, but I would hate to get a note like that on my window. :-(

I agree that its not nice to take up 2 spots but so many people out there that have shit cars don’t care what happens to the car beside them. What I try to do is park next to cars that are as nice as mine or better. That way I know they won’t hit my car and I won’t hit there car. I’ve been in so many situations not only in the parking lot but on the road where little teens with there $200 Honda Civics cutting in front of me because they think they have something to prove. It’s a bigger loss to me if they hit me than to them. There repairs would be like what FREE? Go to the junk yard and find your damn part. I don’t know about you I don’t see a lot of IS250 door panels around in the junk yard. To the people that have nice cars have the right to be somewhat anal because they worked hard to get there nice car. Who needs some a**hole to put a ding in your car that you worked hard to buy. I’m 19 and I have an 08 IS250 and I worked hard to buy it, last thing I want to see is a ding on my door let alone a scratch. Thats my 2 cents….

I always park in the back of the lot in 2 spaces, or next to a median hugging the curb. My car has plenty of dents on it from the previous owner, but I refuse to have someone disrespect my car and me like that. Ever since I found black paint on my silver car, I practiced the 2-space technique. However, I would never do this in a crowded place or a paring garage, I would just pray for respectable people parking next to me, or I catch a ride.

OMG, The old school rules were and STILL are, if you want to take up two spaces you park way away from anyone else in a lot that is not and will not be full. Its to bad that everyone does not just remember when times were filled with less hate and “DO UNTO OTHERS BEFORE THEY DO UNTO YOU” Now days if you own a nice vehicle and park away from everyone else and take two spaces in a lot that will never fill up some REDNECK in a POS will park next to you, beat the shit out of your car and say YOU DESERVED IT. WELL to those of you that just dont understand F–K all of you and DIE. We have nice cars because they elicit a emotion from us when we drive, if you dont get that then dont drive or take public transportation. For all of you that just dont get why a parking ding is a big thing to us F–K U to. Parking dings are caused by FAT, IGNORANT, PIGS, that dont care about anyone but themselfs. Of course now that my car is made from plastic (Smart) I dont get door dings and 1 space is now actually 2. LOL

I don’t think taking up two spots is ever a good idea, just gets people to realize your anal and they want to do something to your car. Even at the back of a parking lot, why take up two if there are no other cars out there? Anyone else parking out there likely wants a spot to their own for the same reason. I am anal about my car, and have never taken up two spots, and I have no dents. If you know how to park there is no need for taking up two spots.

In a tight parking lot you deserve what you get for taking two spots.Period! Do it way off the main area then I understand since it’s not hurting anyone. I always park at the back of a parking lot and still end up with some idiot right beside. Sometimes there are 15 spaces available all around my car and some rust bucket will park 6 inches from my car. They may not be able to drive home due to the flat tires but at least I get revenge!

Taking up two spots is stupid. You will pay for it. If you were the guy that was at the Bengals game back in “97 and came out to find your car beat up like a red-headed step child or Rodney King, it was me! I kick the shit out of your car. Not for double parking, but for parking your rusted out beer can filled POS 29″ from me and dinging my white 540i in two places. Some people have no respect for the rest of us who work our asses off to have nice things. I parked my car at an end spot and this asshole parked illegally next to me in the exit isle. When I walked up to my car and you had a can of Milwalkees Best resting on my car as yours, I lost it sorry. But, when I seen the two dent, I was ready to go to prision for murder. You see… The moral is, if you choose to be a jerk and do crap like that, you will pay for it as you did!

Taking up two spaces is at your own rist. When I go to the store, movies, out to eat, etc., I park my cars (all German)in another Zip Code. Rain, or shine I don’t care. At the mall, I am so far out, I need binoculars to see my alarm blinkers. My point is; My cars can be seen clearly as it sits all alone. Theives have nothing to hide behind as if I were to park between two cars. Security cameras can clearly view the car with no obstructions. No doors dinging me, no shopping carts resting against my car. What pisses me off, is when I come out to retrieve my car and some POS is RIGHT NEXT to me, way out in BFE. So, if you take up two spots, park out at the end of the lot next to the RV’s and big rigs horizonally as they do.

Thank you “Y” I agree with u completely. I myself used to drive a POS and bought a nice new car. The first day I owned it someone hit my door in a p lot and again never left there info so as u can imagine I was very P.O.’d. And I also used to park at the back of p lots where there were lots of spaces around me and someone with a POS would park right beside me so u know what NOW I take up 2 spots. I read a few blogs and I can feel the anger in some of you. I understand and know the solution.

I used to drive a POS and will try to park as close to the entrance as I could (one spot) and did not get those people that took 2 spots especially big ass trucks that can’t park (live in Dallas, lots of trucks) then after saving for my 328i for 2 years I got it and did not change my parking habits because I believe even if you drive a nice car you don’t have to show it off.

WELL two weeks later my car gets a nice ding on it’s side from some co-worker (of course did not leave his/her info) and since that day I park all the way at the end and I take two spots (Can’t do that at my apartment complex since the parking lot is small) but will keep doing it at work for ever plus I enjoy the nice walk to the entrance.

Since taking two spots was something that pissed me off and now is something that I do my self, I believe the problem is not that people want to show off their cars or be jerks (although a small percentage does) the problem here is that people are not considerate and jealous of nicer cars. When I drove a POS and parked next to a nice car, I paid more attention to open the door slowly and that nice car motivated me to save up and get one for my self instead of destroying that car like a little scum bag that has no respect for society. For those of you who thing just because people are driving a nice car they are “rich” and you think by damaging their car you will feel better, think for a second and enjoy the fact that you have no car payments and that there is a big chance that that “rich” person is stuck with a big ass payment.

Let’s all be considerate and consider the situation before we park.

I think its only OK if you park far away from other people, and yes id get pissed if I did park far away and somebody parks next to me. This weekend I was w/ a friend who parked far away from others in his mustang convert, not thing super $$$ but its black, clean, and has some mods. We get out to find some jerk in an accord parked right next to him… in the middle of the lot… no cars around, so he prolly shoulda double parked… Personally I drive an older camry and dont care much, so wen lil jonny gets outa his soccer moms escalade and slams the door into my car, it scratches theirs too. And if Im there, ill say something.

Not just no but hell no. It’s the best way I know of to get the side of your car either bashed in or scraped. I sometimes think about buying an old, giant “beater” car so that I can park 1/2 inches away from jerks who feel they have the right to encroach into another spot.

Using two spaces to park is truly a stupid action! If you hate when people park next to you because you have a nice car, then don’t drive your nice car to places where there is a small parking spot! instead take the bus or buy a worthless piece of crap… Is a car per spot, or take black paint and erase the damn line underneath your car! Don’t say I didn’t warn!

I drive a nice, expensive car and at times I will take up two spaces, but certainly not near the front of the business that I’m going into. Sometimes I will park out in the open so that nobody will park next to me. Inevitably, someone will door ding my car and I will have to kill them, but I think people just need to have some consideration for other people and pay attention to what they are doing. I went through a lot of trauma to be able to afford my car and I take great pride in how it looks and people need to think about that before they fling open the door to their ‘85 Cutlass Cierra (or any other appropriate vehicle) that is four different colors and has 12″ of fast food garbage in it, and the owner probably doesn’t even have insurance.

There is another scenario that has been overlooked. I have often arrived at parking lots only to find that either one or several cars were parked slightly over the lines into the second parking spot. This may have been caused by some larger vehicle that has already left forcing people to get out of line with the actual space lines. So when you see someone over the lines, don’t assume that they were intentionally trying to be a jerk. You may not know the circumstances.

My wife’s small suv was scratched by some loser who had parked like that. We parked between the lines next to them in a very crowded parking lot, but they were partially over the lines into our space. It was very difficult to get out the passenger side as the other persons vehicle was so close. When we came back there was a very obvious intentional key scratch on my wife’s passenger door. Yeah, as if WE were the inconsiderate ones. We were between the lines, they were not.

Loochy88
Aug 21, 2008 at 5:02 pm

I don’t see what’s so complicated about this. If you do it, you run the risk of some jerk messing with your car simply because you chose to take two spots. Its a bigger risk than just parking far away from everyone and only taking up one spot. I park far away on a spot on the far right of a section. I hug the curb on the right of that spot. No door dings in years.

Brandon
Aug 21, 2008 at 1:54 pm

It’s perfectly fine to take two spots if you are considerate enough to do it where there wont be any other lack of parking. I use two or more spaces almost every time I park but at least I’m considerate enough to park at the far end of the parking lot.

CDB1996DCM
Aug 21, 2008 at 2:57 am

I always park my car the in the far back part of the parking lot to avoid door dings. I do not take up two stalls but try to park with only one side of my car exposed. I don’t mind getting a little exercise walking to the front doors if it means I can avoid a scratch or door ding. What really pisses me off is when people who “get this” go out of their way to park right next to you.

Dear cardomain

My personal opinion, people who take up two parking spaces (especially in a FULL parking lot, JUST so nobody parks next to them) or somebody who chooses to park SO close to your door, you have to attempt to get into your car on the passenger side are assholes. People heed the warning, i am an asshole. Next time you park your car an inch from mine and expect me to magically slip into my car with no problem, that long fucked up scratch on your car, or that deep dent on the side of the door is from my car. From my POS car, to your 70K dollar car. Its simple, find a better parking space, or park down far far away from where everybody else is. And speaking of which, does anybody else get…..perturbed….when you park far away so you dont have to worry about cars being next to you, only to walk out the store and find somebody parked very close to your car, with empty parking spaces for at least a mile? Yeah, they get it too…

Sincerely

I always try to park where there is only one side of my car or truck exposed. When I drive my truck I have to take up two spaces alot of times but they are front to back not side to side and it’s only because my truck sticks out atleast a good 3 feet into traffic if I only use 1 space.

Its inconsiderate to take up 2 spaces. People do it at my job all the time. I should take pics and send them in. Bottom line, if you don’t want your precious SUV or car scratched or bumped, dented, whatever, then park it someplace away from everyone else. But don’t take up 2 spaces. That just gives jerks like me reasons to scratch your expensive SUV or what have you with my 20 year old prelude mirrors. Cause I’ll try to fit if it means not walking a extra floor or block. That’s just asking for trouble. Sure park far away, but still don’t take two spaces. Chances are, no one’s going to park way out there any way. If they do, it’s either because they have the same issues as you do or the parking lot is full, in which case you shouldn’t be taking two spaces and should take the bus instead.
Nice car? One word. Valet. Never had a problem with valet…and if your car is that nice, they’d leave it in front any way.

No justification for 2 spots,

and if it is still a tight spot, i generally keep my hand between my door and the next car to prevent it from touching,

Alright, If I’m rolling in an SSC ultimate Aero or a Koenigsegg CCX, I probably would take up two spots due to the width of the car alone! I think people understand that a little bit more. But for these jackasses that don’t know how to park their trucks or SUV’s, or the ones that mean to take up 2 spaces, it’s never ok! And I think those that do it, should have their cars vandalized, but should be towed!

Merry Joe K
Aug 20, 2008 at 8:32 pm

Anyone who takes two spaces is an inconsiderate asshole who deserves to wig out from a bad hit of acid. What makes you so special? Funny story . . . I was at the Mopar Nationals and we were cruising for parking, which was scarce. The only car taking two spots was a 1990 or so Dodge Daytona (!)

I suspect some SUVs take two spaces because they are too big for the spaces, but courtesy suggests that they should park farther away.

Anyone who feels they have to vandalize a car for whatever reason is lower than scum – don’t bring yourself down to the level or below of lame parkers.

I should use this opportunity, however, to express a pet peeve: When in a parking lot, don’t cut through the lot. Use the lanes the way they were intended. I don’t need your lack of driving tact to cause your car to hit me, alright?

Felix
Aug 20, 2008 at 8:29 pm

I haven’t heard of any law restricting the spaces but there IS a law to protect against car vandalism

Like them or not some wide vehicles simply cannot fit in one space. Some options for these owners are to pay valet or park further away if available.

It’s obviously a problem created by the automaker of oversized vehicles and parking lot owners who make undersized parking spots.

If you have a nice car no matter how hard you try, dings will happen. If you obsess over them and take two spots one, your being a selfish jerk and two, your probably so obsessive about the car you don’t actually enjoy driving it and should probably just save yourself the time and get a beater and three, you open the door to even more damage and trouble when the wrong person walks by. If you want to minimize chances of getting dings park in the back of the lot away from the other cars of just keep the car in the garage and save yourself stressing out about it.

Ive never taken 2 spaces before but if u got a nice car ( and there’s plenty of spaces for other people to park) then i guess its alright to take 2 spots. but if there’s not alot of parking left it would be stupid to take up 2 spots, you take the chance of dents and a scratch. If u got a crappy car and u take up 2 spots… i dunno

TO THOSE WHO TAKE 2 SPOTS: I park far and away and avoid door dings very successfully. I’d never take up 2 spots because it’s rude and the world is full of vindictive little shitheads who’ll take revenge for this minor infraction by wrecking something you value.

TO THOSE WHO TAKE REVENGE ON THOSE WHO TAKE 2 SPOTS: Sometimes there are good reasons why someone ends up over the line – you have no idea what the situation was when they parked – maybe their mother just died, maybe that was the only spot left due to lousy parking by the previous people – whatever – maybe at the worst they place too much value on their car in your opinion -do you really need to vandalize their car like a 9 year-old?

some lots are seriously rediculous to try and fit a full size vechicle into, a van truck or suv. i think that if the spot isnt big even to open up your door without hittin the next guy then “yes” i’d take 2 spots every time.

i do park in two spaces. i dont do it if the parking lot is full, i will then park in the biggest spot possible, or the spot next to a curb. i have received a note saying im a jerk for taking up two spots, but i was far away and the parking lot was no where near full. i was pretty pissed at the note b/c the parking lot wasnt “assigned” spots, and there was plenty of spaces. also, this note above is totally rediculous. i would seriously be pissed at that guy who wrote it.. my 0.02$

I feel if you have a really nice car theres no need double park, people wouldnt hit you car because its nice.
And if you have a crappy car theres no need to double park because the dings and dents would only make your car look better.
So don’t double park, take a corner parking space or move to the back and walk a little, nothings gonna happen in those area’s.

And remeber double parking angers a lot of people, which provoks them to doing something bad to your car. So, you better off just parking normally

Nick
Aug 20, 2008 at 4:27 pm

Parking in two spots is only okay if there are other open spots for people to park in. And if your car is a busted ass broken down pile of scrap metal, then you probably have no reason to park in two spots in the first place.

Their are poeple allowed parking in two spots maybe more the tow trucks with a vehicle attached, buses, and other commercial vehicles!Let’s be realistic people if you don’t want to park beside two other people then go park at the very end where no one parks and walk to the store, hell you might even need the walk!

I am half and half on this one.

1. If a car is parked in a busy car park like the one above, then this is seen to be stupid and selfish on the drivers part. I wouldn;t advise keying it – you dont fuck with a dudes car, no matter what they’ve done.
2. However if the driver has parked FAR AWAY from the any other traffic so that no one else will care about it, then that ok with me, that means there’s 2 free spaces nearer to where I want to be
.
Persoannly, If I ever to manage to buy my dream car I will be doing the latter. It’s more considerate to other road users of course if it;s uber busy I’ll happily park straight, i’ll just be more concerned.

Yes, i AGREE with the person who left the very first comment! It is RUDE and inconsiderate to take up two spaces. If you dont want your car to get dinged: 1) park away from everyone else in the back of the parking lot in ONE spot, 2) Grow some legs and walk a little further. This way 1)You dont get a ticket. 2)You dont piss everyone off. 3)You get a little bit more exercise. (hahaha) 4)And of course most importantly your car doesnt get dinged.

No matter how nice the car is, there is no excuse for double parking. Double parking is as risky as single parking, maybe even more so. Idiots could damage your car on purpose just because you’re double parked, or the place where you’re parked at can decided to tow your car, which will probably end up doing even more damage.

Dunkel Mann
Aug 20, 2008 at 8:11 am

If your car is too valuable to the point where you need to take up two parking spaces because getting a small ding/scratch is going to give you a stroke, DRIVE A DIFFERENT FUCKING CAR. If you’ve got a fucking Lambo, what are you doing shopping at Wal Mart anyways? shouldn’t you have enough cash to pay someone to get your shit for you?

It also pisses me off when I see a guy in a truck with the dual rear wheels that takes up 3 or 4 parking spaces.

Ken
Aug 20, 2008 at 6:18 am

honestly if more people actually had respect for another’s personal property people would never feel the need to do things like that. The problem in my opinion isn’t the person that parked using 2 spots its the ass holes that provoked them to do that by showing such blatant disregard to someone else’s property.

I will gladly let the double parking fly if the person is in one of the following situations: A) They drive an exotic/rare car(that does not include corvettes) B) They are at a car meet C) They are parked somewhere far away from the rest the general public, in which case it should not even matter they took up 2 spaces. All other times, say when an SUV double parks or one of those annoying lifted turbodiesel pickups is double parked, shall result in a key to the car and a key to the face for being a dumbass.

personaly i think if dings are an issue that causes double parking, park far away or try taking notes like the plate numbers of all the cars next to you and thier color make. so when you come back to the car and thier is a ding you can at least report it or find that person and give them the bill and a little lesson in common curtisy like a bat to the knees. and “Natschke” had the funniest comment of all. lmfao.

For all the people who say they purposely park inches away from the drivers side door of a person who is double parking. Haven’t you ever thought that the double parker might just wait for you. If it is a stubborn person like myself who double parks only when there is plenty of spots open. I will wait for you, and you will realize you’ve made a very bad mistake. Never said I would wait for you right where we parked. I would be gone but watching, then follow you to where there is no one to witness your beating of a life time. So when you think you are being cool by annoying people who appreciate their vehicles. You are really just one double parker from a beat down that puts you in the ER. Have a nice day folks

I’ve seen a heavy woman open her door resting on the next car, and then put her foot on her door to push it open more when its resting on the car beside her. I’m sure she put a crease in it. So why do people over 2ft wide wish to park inches deside another car. I totally under stand the owner taking up 2 spaces. Maybe its a larger person being curtious to the people beside them. Basically all parking spaces are too close to each other. The larger people ought to park further away so they can open their doors and get the exercise. I’m not trying to be funny here!

I know one thing, I’m the type of guy that takes up two spots anytime I get a chance. That’s why they call me Mr DP (Double Parked). I don’t do it in garages and when I do, it’s at the back of the parking lot. While I completely disagree with taking up two spots in an full parking lot; I routinely park in two spots like this guy , in the basement parking lot of a gym that I go to on a regular basis. I park on the bottom floor (4th) and I rarely see more then 4 or 5 cars down there. The level has over 300 parking spaces and I do it because it takes less time and i can scream through the parking lot and make the wheels squeal. No big deal to me if there is lots of room…go ahead take two. Never mind that Alan guy.

I try to park as closed to the curb as possible; but sometimes assholes will also park as closed to me! If you park away from people then they think that you are better than them so they will purposely do something to your car. There was one time a fat cow hit my car when she open the door while I was sitting in my car and all she said is “sorry”. Only because you don’t take pride on your car it doesn’t mean you should treat other people cars like your own. I personally hate when people double park, and I know they do it just to avaoid dents/scratches but when some one does that it just asking to for dents and scratches.

Aug 19, 2008 at 2:37 pm

It may be ignorant and disrespectful, but the people doing this may be sick and tired of people damaging their cars due to the neglect from other drivers. This might be a way for them to fight back. Which I can totally understand. I’ve found other ways of parking to pervent the door ding issue. Get the spot that is close to a curb or the wall in the lot, and try to park as close as you can to the wall or curb. I usually find a handycap space and park next to it, placing my wheels over the thick blue or yellow lines, which would keep my car far away from an open door, but without being in the hanycap zone.

Alan

If you have to park in two spots b/c your car is exotic or has alot of mods i say if you cant afford to park it dont buy it. i wouldnt ever touch someones car b/c of it but its still a big no. also i think most people do it for attention so that i dont give them either.

That is why I always own a beater car. I would purposely slide my car so close to that asshole that he would have to get in the otherside. This is just ignorant and disrespectful. It’s kinda like going to prison just for the butt raping part.

Dustin
Aug 19, 2008 at 12:41 pm

I think it’s alright if you park far enough back that you aren’t affecting anyone else. It just comes down to the fact that there are so many people out there that don’t care about other people’s personal property. Anytime I have to run to a store and there’s a crowded parking lot, I park far away from all the other cars to avoid getting “dinged”. And a majority of the time, when I return, there’s at least one car parked up close to mine. I personally believe that a lot of these people have no flippin clue how to park and need other cars to use as a guide to get it between the lines. If I can, I try and park next to the most expensive cars on the lot. I can’t see the owner of a new Mercedes or Bimmer door dinging me.

Brent
Aug 19, 2008 at 12:38 pm

Well well. It seems the majority thinks that it’s not ok, and that no car is nice enough, etc, etc. Answer this question. If you open your car door and damage the Mercedes next to you by causing a dent and paint damage, will you leave a note with contact info to take care of the damage, or will you run for the hills ? You see, most people will say, “ohh, its just a car, he will get over it”, and leave without leaving a note. I wonder If the guy that wrote that silly note would take the same amount of time to leave his personal info if he damaged someones car. Probably not.

Robert

it depends… if I see a nice car say farther out in a lot with less cars around taking up a few spaces, I can understand. but Most I see are people that either don’t know how to drive or just too lazy to correct their parking. I don’t know how many dents I have gotten by these retards that park crooked (usally minivans and suvs) than smack their door into my car.
my freind has a nice neon sxt (bodykit, rims the whole 9) and she parks in one spot or will go towards the end of the parking lot (no cars out there) and park so it is in the corner of the curbs and people will throw eggs and spit on it for no reason.

Where I work I always park in the back of the parking lot. Usually I use two spaces except for on weekends when the lot may get full then I only use one. I do this because both of my doors have dings on them when I parked closer. So its this only reason why I use two spaces. I never park in two spaces when I parked anywhere else, only at work.

I don’t think it’s cool to take up two spots, especially in a crowded mall parking structure. And I also think it is completely unacceptable to damage anothers car, body work is expensive these days, and unless you can perform the job by yourself it is just downright cruel to do something immature like that to someone else’s ride. If it’s not yours don’t touch it!!!

Charlie

Ugh. I hate when people do this. If you’re worried about getting dents, just park in the back or between two equally nice cars. Chances are, if you double park, you’ll get keyed or have screws in your tires by the time you get back. I had a ‘friend’ that did this once. I wanted to find him in the store and tell him he was getting a ticket- just to make him run.

ya people who park straight over 2 spots are definatley dirty dripping douchebags. you gotta do it for style, by parking diagonally across six spaces with your car and a friends. then you pull the pylons that you stole off the road outta the trunk and place them around your cars. now you got your own car show display, complete with the added safety of pylons

I drive a 2000 ford taurus thats completely stock except for 4 15s in the backseat and a custom rear lowering job from all the weight back there and a park how ever i want, unless its a busy parking lot, but if its empty, i think anything goes…

It’s not ok, unless the entire parking lot is empty, and will stay empty, but if it’s a regularly used area, it’s not ok in my opinion no matter what vehicle you’re using (maybe an oversized work truck but I’m still not too sure about that one)! When you park in an area with a good amount of cars you’re knowingly taking a risk!

P.S. That note was hilarious!

I hope the letter is just to make the car’s owner flip out and look for non-existent damage, which would be funny in it’s own right. I kinda want to print some of these out on cheap paper stickers that are hard to get off.

It is ok! I dont know how many times I returned to my car to see a ding that someone left because they decided to fling the door open hitting mine. This simple mistake can result in $200 or more in body work. So to avoid this situation, people take up two spots. I’ve done it, but far away to the extreme end of the lot, and only when I drive the car that I care the most about. Some people buy cars and really don’t give a damn about dings etc, and some people take care of and cherish their cars. The people that dont give a damn will think that the two spot action is offensive. Too Bad. They are the same people that open their doors and damage other peoples cars, causing this method of offensive automotive preservation.

I heard a Story once upon a time…
A fellow with a really nifty restored Camaro with a brand new pricey paint job was anxious about where to park down at the local Emporium. (years ago, there actually was a store called ‘Emporium’)
He really wanted to cruise around in his redone ride, but became hungry. So he stopped at the Emporium, and chose a small coffee shop located next door. Worried that someone might scratch his new paint job, he parked out in the back 40 where no one ever parked (save for Christmas season). As soon as he was inside the coffee shop, a bread truck sped through the back 40 and turned sharply enough to lose balance.

You guessed it. The truck landed squarly on the camaro and its nifty new paint job.

The point here is if you think your car is too nice to park within one single space, then you are a douchbag #1, and b) you should choose to park away from everyone else, and thier expensive grocery-getters. The obviouse caveat being there may be a bread truck waiting for you…

If you think your car is too nice to park with and like the rest of us normal cars, be aware that there are letter writers waiting to tell you how nice the beach is.
Better yet, leave the stupid car at home and bring the other one. Use that really nice car for road trips, and outings to special boutiques where other douchebags tend to park using two spaces.

The above story was told to me during my junior year in Highschool. Perhaps it is just an urban legend. But does any one really want to take that kind of chance? Did you see the video of a tree falling on a custom pickup??

i say if your driving a high dollar car or a car you built and have put a lot of time into i think its fine to take up two spaces. Now if your doing it cause you car about your car thats fine. But if i ever saw a ford festiva or a geo metro parked in two spots id be pissed.

I love the letter. LMAO when I read it. Maybe I should write a letter like that next time I see someone parked in two spot’s.

Sounds like buddy is a loser. Who go that far out of there way to piss someone off? Hey I just wrote you a letter, and decided to dent your car out of jealousy. Fuck off! Its the rules cool cars can park in 2 spaces; suck it

only justified if the second spot is occupied by the trailer your pulling, and you better be way the heck out there.

Reading through the comments it’s very hard to believe that some of you are so willing to justify such idiocy… It’s no different than learning to color within the lines, literally it’s just that simple. It’s not about someones “right” to park wherever they want, as a matter of fact if you really want to get into it the property you are parking on is actually considered “private property” meaning that parking “violators” (ie. vehicles parked in two spots, wrongfully parked in handicap parking spaces, parked for more than 24hrs, ect., ect…) can and will be ticketed and/or towed. Now I am not saying you should vandalise someone elses car but the same goes for people who park like douchebags, JUST DONT DO IT! it’s all about common sense.

Its okay if you car is REALLY REALLY NICE. Like mine is, a X3 is not REALLY REALLY NICE. I use two spots in parking lots but I also park so far back that none will want to park there anyway. If you care about your ride that much that you have to take up two spots, then park it where there isn’t a lot of crowdedness.

BUT you can NEVER damage anyones ride to prove a point. EVER! If that was my car, the guy who wrote the note better hope the cops find him before i do, b/c i would do ten times worse to his face than what he did to my car. YOU BETTER BELIEVE THAT!!

Author’s note:

Not advocating damaging someone else’s vehicle on purpose. Just saying that I’d LIKE to sometimes… to hammer home a point. I agree that it is NEVER justified to act on such impulses however

Taking up two spaces is one thing. Intently destroying someone else’s property is something completely different and NEVER EVER justified.

I got a zero-tolerance view on such things, and whoever I see doing that shit better hope the cops get to him before I do.

Its deffinitely not ok. If you have a car that important and special, don’t use it unless you just want to drive. if your take up two spaces and theres others that need it, YOU ARE A PRICK! great note!!! only exception to this rule is if your hammered out of ur mind

Only Ok If Your Vehicle Is Too Big For a Single Spot And You Parked WAAAAAAAYYY Out There.

I LOVE the note. Beaches ARE fun. In the case of the car in the pic, I have two primary reactions when I see something like that in person… regardless of what kind of vehicle it is (oversized truck, overpriced sportscar, or run-of-the-mill factory car that someone cares way too much about.) If it is taking up too much space in highly prized parking areas where people have to hunt for parking… I have to seriously fight the urge of keying “Selfish, inconsiderate asshole” into several panels of painted surfaces. My second reaction is to park as close to their driver’s side door as possible if the space is open so they have to enter their vehicle through the passenger door. My wish is that when other people see this sort of thing that one park tight on the driver’s side and one park tight on the passenger side so the prick can’t get into his/her car at all.

It is only ok, if you park at the furthest spaces in the parking lot. Where no one parks.

Oldscoob,

WTF?? Why do you write in riddles. You never make any sense. I have seen many of your posts. This is the first time I have seen you post with a screen name other than anonymous.

Oh yea… F two space parkers! Unless your truck just wont fit in one. Wait…If your truck is that big, your still a douche…Unless its a bonefide work truck.

Never OK. Grumpy will pwn you. If the spot to the left of the two spots is open when I see this you might find a beat up, crappy looking, and smelly Astro parked with inches of the drivers side door. Have fun climbing in from the passenger side moron.

cknarf: Douchebaggery only come in if you don’t fix it. Really not that hard to park between the lines.

cars should be able to take dents and scratches and shopping carts runnin gastray. No excuses. A damn bug at 60s mph can chip a hood? and ya know what? whip out the classic cure of metallic base caot over your strongest primer and beake the urethane on…to find out it is the metal to the core of its existence..to be further insulted by not enough real bumpers and rubberized wide enough trims. The complaint is about cars..not even parking spaces perfection.

I have to agree with the comments so far. Here in Ohio we have an issue with people who do not know how to park and always sit right on the line. My solution? I park our huge Suburban in the spot next to it so they cannot get in the door.

MoparRob07
Aug 18, 2008 at 2:08 pm

If you’re parked in the “back 40″ on a non busy day, I have no issue or problem with taking up two spaces. But front row at a mall or Wal-mart, get a clue!

GTwildfire
Aug 18, 2008 at 1:46 pm

People who take two spaces either are genuine douchebags, or have anger issues because their ride was dented by inconsiderate asshoes who didn’t leave contact info after door-dinging.

I think that if the car’s parked way across the lot where there are no other cars, what the hell… dosen’t matter if it’s in one space or two.

I avoid parking near everybody else anymore. We’ve turned into a nation of mostly lazy assholes who leave our shopping carts wherever.

cknarf
Aug 18, 2008 at 12:45 pm

people who use two spaces are douchebags. period.

I do it occasionally only cause I suck at parking. Besides, I only take a couple extra inches. I can never get the car straight!

Any douchebaggery on my part is often unintentional.

Oh I forgot to mention that the only people for a good excuse to take two spots is those people with tremendously huge trucks that MUST take two spots

Aug 18, 2008 at 11:03 am

only when your in an area of the parking lot that isn’t gonna miss the extra space you took, i do it a work in the back corner of the lot where some of us with bigger trucks park. I like the spare carrier on that truck to the right in the photo btw.

Aug 18, 2008 at 10:22 am

I agree, you should never take up two spaces in any parking lot. If your car is that rare or expensive, why are you driving it around town anyway? Wouldn’t it be nice if that sort of thing with the note caught on…

NO IT IS NEVER OK! Unless you own a super classic-only-one-left-i-gave-my-right-testicle-for-car! if you don’t own that car then just take one spot like everyone else! And no I don’t care if its a lambo or ferrari! A Buggati? mmmmmmh MAYBE!!!!
