The Quail

By David Wallens

GRM Editorial Director

One of my favorite events during the Monterey festivities has to be The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. It’s basically the week’s greatest hits. You’ll see the finest Pebble Beach cars as well as the finest race cars. Only a limited number of tickets are available, so the crowd isn’t packed at all. You can easily walk around, see the cars, and take in everything. And there’s one more treat: food and beverages are included. (And of course it’s all top-shelf stuff, and you can go back for seconds or thirds.)

One of my favorite cars at the event had to be this 1958 Fiat Abarth Allemano 750 GT convertible. It’s something you don’t see every day, and the color was just stunning. I’d make space for this one. Look for some more photos are the jump.

Around lunchtime the race cars arrive. The drive over to The Quail behind a police escort. A few dozen Trans-Am machines showed up this year.

And it’s not always immaculately restored cars. This 1958 Talbot Lago T-150 C SS was shown in as-found condition.

Yeah,
.
I see enough “car snobs” at the shows and cruise-ins I attend…
.
I wouldn’t want to go to something that looked like this…
.
Dear God, they’d call “911″ or have me lynched if I showed up in the RoadMonster…
.
.
I would be fun to scare a few of those pompous guys in suits before I got taken away though ;)

Yeah, it looks like it’d be a little douchey.
They probably wouldn’t let me in in.
If I pulled up in my beast, everyone would be like: Oh my, he is quite appalling (spelling?). And what is he driving? What type of vehicle is that? A Pontiac? whaa???

Looks a little too “stuffy” to me…
.
Maybe even a bit pretentious…
.
Say “hi” to Skip and Buffy!
.
I’m sure they brought the Bimmer ;)
