Our buddy Rich Truesdell is getting to be quite the spy photographer. Check out this 2010 VW GTI 5-door hatchback he caught yesterday afternoon in Death Valley. More pics and details over at Automotive Traveler.

While it is very bright in Death Valley, the camo is black to trick the light meter in the camera. Usually the photos of the cars, in this environment, are very dark, concealing the details. Before posting the photos I adjust the exposure control and contrast (I shoot everything in RAW) so you can more clearly see the deatils of both the camo as well as underneath. I really believe that my spy shots show more detail than many others.

Yes, it’s that bright. I hear it’s over 120-degrees fahrenheit out there during the days right now, which is why the manufacturers choose that location for their high temperature durability testing… they want to see if the cars will overheat or break in the extreme temperatures.
