Smart’s Tiny Little Recall

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Smart has issued its first recall. At issue are 43 of its fortwo vehicles that apparently got sprayed with a bad batch of paint. The caustic coating can apparently compromise the adhesive used to attach the fortwo’s roof and windshield, leading to separation of one or both at speed. Hmm, maybe they should be using something more than airplane glue to hold the roof down! More at edmunds.

They could put a big rubber band around it to hold it together.
.
That would have the added benefit of holding the doors closed if the glue that holds them on fails ;)

“…leading to separation of one or both at speed…” – Is this a problem? It is a Smart, you’d be hard pushed to get any speed…

On the Smart Car, all you need is a tube of Testors Model Kit Glue…
.
It’s not much bigger than some model kit cars I have seen ;)

I am a big fan of the use of glue. Reduce cost and weight. In some cases glue is stronger than a bolt on. Maybe some more research on the cars before the go out though. lol.
