Turbo LeBaron Convertible With Color-Change Paint… In the Junkyard!
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
It’s hard to see why someone would put so much care and work into a car right before junking it—something tells me that there’s a story behind this LeBaron’s sad fate, because painting your car like this is anything but cheap. The car is located at Lynnwood Pull A Part just north of Seattle—and the really terrible thing is that Washington is one of those states where cars can’t be bought off the yard once they’ve been junked, so this mint turbo LeBaron is just going to have to sit here in the rain until it gets crushed. More junkyard pics after the jump.

Like Frankenstein’s Monster, it’s an experiment gone horribly wrong.
If it was somebody’s actual ride, the Owner probably got more money from the insurance if stolen than if they sold it.
Imron metallics generally look better than chameleon paint anyway. Mainly because at certain angles, color-change paint looks like they have mis-matched body panels. The more rounded the surfaces of the car, the better ‘Chameleon’ paint blends the colors. Imron is more forgiving when painted on any style of car. just MHO…

We painted cars like this in automotive school all the time for practice….the paint was free…..the car is donated…no mystery.

Being a K Car fan, I hate seeing any that are savable being left like the LeBaron or even the Voyager/Caravan next to it. In NE Wisconsin, there are years full of K Cars that have simple problems to fix, and people just don’t want to fix them. I have a ‘93 Voyager with 287K on the clock, that I picked up for $100 as a donor for my ‘94. I put a set of rockers in it, fixed the “problem” it had, and we have been using it to haul hay for the past two years. The ultimate in conservation is saving the ones that have no business being in the junkyards.

i realy hate to see decent cars go to the scrap heap. ill walk the junk yards everyonce in a while and spot some cars tha shouldnt be there, b/c they were impounded r left on the road side never to be picked up. really, its a shame

Yea, that’s a shame. Sucks to see nice cars go to junkys before they get alotta enjoyment outta them. I bet a lot of people think it sucks even to see that Festiva in there, due to it being a nice gas saver.. with gas prices nowadays. It sucks seeing it in there, since you don’t see many of them around anymore. In Massachusetts, alotta cars get junked because they have no title. Now, that’s a waste.

Just a FYI alot of cars that Pick in Pull type places buy are from police impounds, if the car was used in any sort of crime it is not sold at the public auctions and only allowed to be scrapped and never sold again. Its kinda like if you were a drug dealer and you had a tricked out car and you were dealing out of it and when you got out of jail you saw some punk kid driving your whip that you lost you may be kinda mad and make a big deal.

Lol I was there a week ago and seen that LeBaron. I was thinking the same thing. Why would someone pay that much in paint for that car and then junk it. Craziness!

you can’t just rip the body panels off of it and throw them on another LeBaron? Hell i’d do it, thats the best looking Diamler-Chrisler coming from the 80s besides the Ram that i’ve ever seen. its also kinda sad to see that the guy that got it sprayed ran out of cash afterwards and left the stock wheels on it…
oh and why in the hell are politics being pulled into this forum? if anyone really payed attention, most of those that got eliminated in the primaries were MUCH better candidates than the two main ones running for office.

I see ME’s comment was removed, it must have been really offensive, drop the banhammer on him like they do at Jalopnik.
Isn’t that paint like over a thousand dollars a gallon? What a waste. I bet it would look good on your AMC Eagle!

Aug 26, 2008 at 3:17 pm
actually, in correct grammar, its:
stupid
more stupid
most stupid
My names Matthew, Maffew is my nickname. pretty common actually.
And I am going to vote for Barack in Nov. Anybody who wants change in this country should.
And I’m not “whiney ass bitching” I’m speaking the truth. Your car may be from the 60’s, but your attitude toward other races shouldn’t be.
\end.

Shut up Maffew (what kind of F*ed up name is “MAFFEW”???)
Stupidest is a word too.
Stuipid
Stupider
Stupidest
Maybe not in your dictionary, but in a modern updated version.
Now quit your whiney ass b!tching and go vote for Barrack Obama or something…

Damn, Cody, (ME) that comment was fucked up. Grow up dude. I’ve lost all respect for you man. I think your “show off of the week” status should be revoked after some dumb shit like that. Hell, even in your comment, you use the word “stupidest”, which isn’t even a word to begin with. Besides its not just “blacks” who spend more money on cars than they are worth, everybody does it. If they didnt, there wouldn’t be an aftermarket to begin with. The only thing your comment got across was who is really “dumb.”

That Lebaron doesn’t look too bad, maybe it was the top or the turbo that ended its life; by the looks of the paint job, it may have taken its own life!

Putting on a nice paint job or getting nice rims… those things are great but they AREN’T what it takes to keep a car on the road. My guess is that it had a major mechanical problem that put it there and that’s ironic cause the owner saw fit to dump a boatload of cash into the paint but let the ride go because of mechanical issues.
-
I’ve seen cars broken down roadside that looked awesome with all kinds of visual mods but were likely neglected mechanically.
-
It’s backwards thinking. The car’s running condition is the foundation you build on. Always make sure it runs 100% before even thinking of buying eye-candy.

Wow. I never knew that paint was available and someone would spend the money to do that. I suspect a tinge of regret from the blog poster…. would they buy the LeBaron and become LePimp?

Here is a question, why would you put that kind of paint on a LeBaron? The best paint job for a LeBaron is Krylon.

I Think thats just a Pull A Part policy probably for insurance reasons. In Washington you can buy a car out of a yard and get it back on the road, you just have to go through the hassle of getting a Washington State Patrol inspection to get a new salvage title and some other beurocratic bs. Of course its always a plus when you know the owner of the wrecking yard.
