Hybrid Parking Only
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
This photo, posted over at VWVortex, was taken at a grocery store in Nevada. Apparently these spaces help qualify new construction for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation. Jeez, this makes a lot of sense. So I guess a Tahoe hybrid that gets 20 mpg can park here, but a Corvette that gets 25 mpg can’t.

IF I EVER SEE ONE OF THESE PARKING SPOTS, I’M GONNA PARK AT AN ANGLE AND TAKE UP TO SPOTS.
OR I’LL GRAB EVERY SHOPPING CART I CAN FIND AND PARK IT THERE,HA HA HA HA HA

It’s no wonder why America is the fatest nation.

Seriously! How much lazier can we get?

I guess I’d get the 40 MPG sticker, but hinge it and attach a string.
-
When I’m going down hill or there’s a strong wind behind the car, pull the string ’cause I’ll be getting 40 at that moment. When the engine’s gotta work let up on the string because Id’ve sunk to the lowliness of driving something that hasn’t gotten Rube Goldberg’s post-mortem blessing.

You can park whatever you like there anyway: car entheusiasts won’t mind, and people that complain normally know so little about cars that you can tell them it’s a special hybrid edition. XD

They need a logo to slap on any car that gets 40+ MPG regardless of how it is powered. I’m glad that some SUVs are getting better milage via hybridization or whatever, but it’s still crap. If you’re diesel, 50 HP, or hybrid and you get good mileage, I’m all for extra privileges.

I would have to take quick measurements and have “ELITIST” printed on adhesive-backed vinyl, then pay a 3 am visit to correct some spelling in that parking space.
-
I hope someone takes up that idea.

hybrid parking is just a nice way of saying metally hadicaped parking.
if these people really believe they are getting better gas mileage than everyone else, they are challenged.
just because an suv comes with a “HYBRID” vinyl sticker doesn’t make it so.

Ooooh great.
-
yet another reason to mark preferential spaces. Gotta walk 100 feet minimum to get to almost any front door, now smug hybrid owners will push us all back another 18 feet?
-
I’d be tempted to call store managers and let them know I’ll be boycotting. Starting to feel like the Geico caveman when I see shit like this.

Does this mean that the least fuel efficient cars should be sent out to the north forty?

What a bunch of B.S.

This is the South Park “Smug” episode in real life…

This is where people park their hybrids so everyone else can point and laugh at them for spending $30K on a Prius or an Insight that is less economic than most petrol cars. Or perhaps its so that everyone can siphon fuel out of the rich bastards fuel tanks.

Awesome, now there will be a surge in people buying fake hybrid badges for their car!
Honestly, unless they make it against the law to park there in a non hybrid, it probably really won’t get enforced… it’ll be like those “Expectant mother” parking spaces at the mall… No enforcement, just good faith that people will only use those spots accordingly.

i went to a hospital in naples, fl and they had that. but the real kicker was that it was closer to the front door than the handicap spots were
