Just what we need, a Nissan powered 'tang. What's next a Morris Minor with a super-charged Audi engine ?

The car is likely a 67, the differences were the side "c" scoops which were louvered in 67 and smooth in 68, 67's did not have side marker lights, which became federally mandated on all 1968 model year vehicles and therefore present on 68 Mustangs, and 67's had a 3-spoke steering wheel with large center pad, while the 68's had a horizontal bar style with a horn ring. The other major difference is that 67's had a horzontal bar across the grille while 68's had simply the pony and corral. This car has Shelby style side scoops so that cue is null and void, same thing goes for the steering wheel and grille. That leaves the remaining cue the fact that this car does not have the side marker lights, unless of course they were shaved for a cleaner look. So, in the end, it could still be a 68.

As for the movie, the Silvia that the engine was removed from was a highly modified drift car owned by Hahn, which Shawn wrecks in his first foray into drifting. After DK and his crew attack Hahn's shop and Hahn is killed, the cops seize everything except the wrecked Silvia out back. Shawn and his crew then grab Shawn's dad's Mustang and the RB26 Skyline motor to create the ultimate drift car for Shawn's final loser-leaves-town mountain race against DK.

I am a hardcore Mustang enthusiast and when I first heard of this car being built before the movie came out, I thought it was blasphemy. However, in the context of the movie, I thought it made perfect sense considering small or big block V8 parts probably arent exactly plentiful in Tokyo, and they had a donor car to do the swap.

I probably wouldnt attempt this swap myself unless I had a ton of support from people who know both cars well. Though of course people drop fuel injected 5.0 Mustang engines into the classics all the time, so I can't see the principle being tremendously different.

Does no one notice "The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift" sticker on the front windsheild. Clearly it's the movie car. The studio doesn't care if it's the right engine name or not, they will name it what ever they want. NO ONE GIVES A S*** ABOUT THE REAL SPECS IN THE MOVIE.

yeah that was an RB pulled from that S15 not an SR20. The S15 they had in the movie i think was someones shop car so it already had a RB26 in it and not a SR20
