In the fall of 1952, a good friend of my dad's bought a new 4 door Hornet with Twin-H-Power. I rode in the new Hornet, and the most memorable part of the ride was with my dad's friend Red, his wife Phebe, my dad, mom, and myself. We were on old highway 40 northeast of Sacramento, California. Highway 40 at the time was still a two-lane, two-way highway. We were Sunday driving at 35 miles per hour, and when I turned my head to look behind us, there was a long line of vehicles, and the car behind us was following very closely. Suddenly Red floorboarded the Hornet, and the hydramatic transmission downshifted from 4th to 3rd gear (passing gear). The circlar speedometer went from 35 to 80 miles per hour in seemingly no time at all. I could see the speedometer looking from the right side riding in the back of the car. The car that was behind us following closely now looked like a small speck from the view of the Hornet's rear window. I was impressed from this exhibition of speed. Years later, I found out that the best torque curve of the 308 cubic inch Hornet 6 was between 35 and 80 miles per hour. The Hornet was also priced with the Oldsmobile 98, which put the Hornet solidly in the upper medium-priced field. Red's Hornet with Twin-H-Power, radio, heater, hydramatic, and other options, costed around $3,800. The Hornet's suspension also included stabilizer bars both front and rear, and the rear leaf springs were "angled", which added to roll resistance. I have been addicted to stepdown Hudsons for most of my 64 1/2 years of lifetime, and I always will be till death do I part.

I love these cars man, my grandfather always would tell me how hot they were back in the day, ofcourse if I had one It'd be cragars/white letter tires and probably some Mopar V8-age under that hood, originality is all well and good, but thats not how I get down.

Nice coverage of an oft ignored car. Before the movie Cars I had heard of the Hornet but never really knew much about it.
