The Turkey Rod Run, held every Thanksgiving at the Daytona International Speedway, is the one I can’t wait for. A huge event attacting more than 5,000 vehicles and an automotive flea market in the infield of the track with several thousand vendors.

Everything shows up! Old style, true, rat rods, open fender street rods, the kid’s tricked out VW’s, stock 50′s classics, 4WD El Caminos, you name it.

The best part is the gathering every evening at the BelAire Plaza Beachside on A1A. Several hundred cars show up every evening and the owners just hang out and shoot the bull with everyone who walks by. This year I will be there with my original condition 63 Falcon Station Bus, my brother with his bone stock 66 Bronco and my nephew with his restored 67 CJ5. It is a blast.

If you are anywhere in the Southeast or planning a Thanksgiving vacation, you need to attend this multiday event.

I always look forward to the Vintage races at Mid-Ohio. They have a huge car show in the infield plus you get to walk the paddock where all the race cars are located. So you have hundreds of classic cars plus classic racers.

The Goodguys Lonestar Nationals every October in Fort Worth. We don’t get a lot of shows here in the Dallas area, and it’s the biggest show around here. They usually have 1500-2000 rides attend every year. I usually contact the promotions guy at the local rock radio station and mooch free passes from him. This year may be the first time I take my 5-year old son. I AM SO PSYCHED!

Got-damn man, that sounds sweet. As soon as I get my dakaota painted and trade it for some steel of the V8 variety, (hopefully before next summer) I’ll have to make a trip up there to check that out.
