2011 Chevy Volt Revealed!

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Pics of the production Volt just turned up on The Car Connection. Too bad it’s a) kind of boring looking and b) there are a bunch of GM management guys blocking a full view of the car. But Bob Lutz is still cool. More pics after the jump.

This is the production car!?! WTF!!! The concept car was a lot better looking!! This looks like a Doge Intrepid!! It also kinda looks like a Malibu that got ran over by a monster truck!!!

Hey Chevy!!! Will the Volt be available in the next Gran Turismo or in Midnight Club 4??? Having cars in games is like getting paid for advertising!!!

What are you guys doing? You tease us with something that I would actually buy and then put out this hidious little electric “toy” like everyone else. My five year olds go kart is less of an eye sore. What happened to the GM style and power that made you a real AMERICAN manufacturer? Why won’t you give us what we want and love? Theres no reason why an electric vehical can’t look and perform like the camaros with todays technical advances.

It’s sad to see what they did to this car. They were onto something with the prototype, it looked very edgey and sporty… this thing just looks like another run-of-the-mill cavalier/corolla/scion/g6/insert “semi-sporty” compact here. I was looking forward to getting into an electric or hybrid car that didnt look like a stylized toaster… I guess that wont happen with the volt. Who will step up?

What happend to this car. The concept car was a good looking car that got me excited about possibly buying and electric car that didn’t look like a toy or a clown car. The concept had an edgy sporty look. The production version looks like a cavalier hooked up at a party with a corolla. Im just sick of these boring looking sedans and compacts. What ever happend to style? I am a chevy man and always will be. Thank God for the new camaro. Chevorlet has a great plan to bring an electric car to the market and even though Im a hardcore gear head that loves v8 performance I was caught by the volts looks. I began to research the car and was really interested in it, but now it looks like just another boring cookie cutter car. Get a car with some looks put in the technology and kick toyota’s ass

gtwilder you are an idiot, where do you get your info? who would pay 80-100k for a ford contour sized coupe that runs on electricity for 80 miles and then has to be plugged in for 8 hours when gas cost $1 a gallon and coupes in general were being discontinued left and right due to slow sales and the popularity of s.u.v.’s? (remember the toyota supra, mitsubishi 300gt, nissan 300zx, ford probe, ford thunderbird, mercury cougar, chevy beretta, among others?). Im not sure you payed attention in economics class, but the object of a company IS TO MAKE MONEY. every ev-1 built was leased for a huge loss, with the object being research and development for the advancement of battery technology. if gm sold the ev-1 to the lesees, they would be crucified 2 years later as rip-offs when the new battery technology debuted. (remember when the i-phone got $100 cheaper and people raised hell? imagine if the i-phone was $60k cheaper and the battery ran for 2 weeks without a charge!) gm knew the current (in the late 90′s) battery technology would be obsolete in a few years. why dont you bash your beloved honda and toyota? they did the same exact thing as gm but they have nothing at all like the volt to show for it. gm should be celebrated for “taking one for the team”.

Those EV cars made by GM/Toyota/Ford/Honda, were scrapped around 2003. The price of gas was on the rise back then, infact thats exactly when it started to shoot up. If you guys watch the documentary on “Who killed the electric car”, you’ll be golf clappin to Chevy for releasing this car now. Its all about public views, and Chev wants everyone to think they are being environmentally aware. This is BS, since proof is in the pudding when it came to the EV-1. They didnt even have to do any research on the Volt, it was already done 8 years ago.

I’m so tired of domestic car makers being bashed for great ideas. Have some freakin pride in American inginutity folks. The Volt is a briliant idea from an American company. A car that can run up to 40 mils without a drop of gas. The statments that the Volt looks like this or that, well tons of cars, especially sedans, all look like each other in many ways. In fact, you can put a side view silluette of most four door sedans up and most of you won’t have any idea which ones are which. The Volt looks fine, in fact I think it looks damn good. As far as the differrence from the concept, the demensions of the concept tell me that in a wind tunnel, it would probley perform like a brick. Aerodynamics are very key to fuel effeciency. I’ll try to keep this short. The EV-1, great idea at the time. Cost hundreds of millions to design, bad timing and would not have taken off in at a time of 1.50/gal gas. Toyota and Honda came out with similar ideas, the Rav4 EV was one that met the same fate as the EV-1. Hondas barly even saw the road before they were crushed. Opps.
GM made billions selling SUVs, because people wanted them and they bought them. If folks didn’t want them, they would not have sold.
Oh, and to the dodge neon, chevy cobalt arguement, I hate to say it but Dodge had it down way before GM. Don’t forget the Dodge Omni GLH amoung others, 2.2 turbo. A four-banger that ate camaros and mustangs of the day. Go USA. And to the domestic bashers, next time you wanna brag about your import, think about how much of the taxes the company you bought your car from, went to educate your kid in school. Think about it and before you blow it off, do some research.

Well I’m sure all the people in foreign countries scream and complain about others their buying american made cars. It all equals out in the end.

And yes lets look at how many american car makers have plants in other countries opposed to the local plants here from asian auto makers.

Like I said it all equals out, it is just a matter of preferance.

Chris
Sep 13, 2008 at 5:04 pm

Hey what you dont understand is that most foreign automakers have plants in the states. So they are actually using our labor to make their cars.

Ronald Lohse
Sep 13, 2008 at 3:03 pm

“American auto makers need to do something to keep up and get back in the game.”

This is absolutely true!!

“Now, to all you foreign vehicle loving assholes, get bent! It’s idiots like you that are ruining this country. If you work in America, then buy American automobiles and goods. Just remember how much you all love your cute little Hondas and Toyotas and how long they last…well when you can’t find a solid job right here in America and can’t afford to eat, cook up your foreign auto and see if you can eat that!!!”

This contradicts the first quoted statement. If we buy American just for the sake of “saving(?)” America, then American manufacturers have no incentive to produce better products. When Honda and Toyota first started to make headway in this country in the late ’70s and early ’80s, it was because they produced better cars for the same or less money than the Big Three. The Big Three were still in the mode of producing a completely restyled model each year rather than investing in making better cars. The foreign makers changed that idea and forced the Big Three to focus their investment on actually producing cars with quality, safety and decent handling. The current problem with the Big Three (and most American industry) is short-sightedness. GMs reliance on Pick-up trucks and big SUVs, in this country (due to relatively large profit margins) and pushing a demand for them through a lot of advertising) is part of their current problem. Now they can’t give them away. If you want to save American jobs, then you need to 1) deal with the wage disparity between the American worker and workers elsewhere, 2) reward companies that keep or produce jobs here, rather than move them out.

Funny how the body structure of the car is weirdly similar to the Toyota Prius. Coincidence? I think not, GM and Toyota have always had ties together and this is just another example of GM just being lazy. They could have stuck to the original body style displayed by the concept car, but no, we have to get a prius that got a face and ass lift.

“GM had ALREADY released an electric car YEARS ago, and leased it to celeb like Mel Gibson and others.. the car was A HUGE SUCCESS!!! But, they pulled all of the cars back, even though EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT LEASED IT WANTED TO OWN IT… they took all these great cars, and crushed them…

the car was called the EV1

There is a movie called Death of the Electric Car… It will tell you all about chevy’s dirt…

AND STOP TALKING SHIT ON CHEVY.. They have made one of the strongest and most durable 4-cylinders the world has ever seen … The Ecotec… the crank case on these can take up to 1500 hp… its what all the big boys use in drag for 4 cyl now… they have revolutionized the way americans build 4 cylinders now…

SRT-4′s are tight, but dodge is SUPER gay, cause it wasnt original.. they kicked back, and waited for all the new tuners to come out, then made it faster.. thats it.. they basically sat waiting to see every other company put out paper, so they could pull out scissors…

the car hasnt even come out yet, so why are hella people calling it a failure? that is just dumb

you know what is going to be the FASTEST PRODUCTION FWD EVER MADE? THE NEW CHEVY COBALT SS TURBO.. 260 hp/260 ft lbs, hits 14.0 STOCK, and does 160…. THAT is the shit.. and you can get the car for ~25k… you cannot beat that.. I got faith in them, but yes, they are lagging hella hard.. but at least wait till you ACTUALLY SEE the car to hate on it so much”

Josh B.

Wow! this guy is seriously misinformed. i sense a little Bias coming from this one. The neon srt-4 turbo runs 13.9′s stock 5 years ago stock 14.0. for a cobalt ss that is some really exciting numbers lemme tell ya. And I dont get where dodge is copying anybody the 2.4 was in the pt cruisers for a while before they ever dropped one in a neon and modified the hell outta it. They were turbocharging 4 cyl for years. Chevy didn’t have too many turbo 4 cylinders and supercharged cars until recently. So i guess they had their foot in the closet 4 a while. Dodge at that time had the best reputation when it came to producing the prototypes. And their long history of racing motors and development by great racers such as “Shelby” I guess makes them “gay”. It’s obvious diamler chrysler now just diamler is my choice of car because i was raised with them. but to slam a company because of your bias and lack of knowledge on the topic i guess makes you think everyone should jump on the bandwagon because you think a brand is infinitely better. If that was the case the market wouldn’t be flooded with Toyotas, Hondas, and all the imported cars that are causing layoffs, restructuring, and one of the worst automotive recessions in history.

The Concept care was way better. Seems like the really nice cars are your V8′s. Something remarkable would be a car that can go 0 to 60 in 5 seconds and get 35/40 miles to the gallon. That would be the car worth looking at. Oh yeah Keep it under 30 grand. Put some work on that. Toyota would got under.

…”The EV1 wasnt profitable (GM lost$100k+ on each one) and only a few hundred people actually wanted them when they were available…the fact that many of the people who did lease them became EV fanatics who wanted to keep them when the lease was over doesnt mean anything…the general public did not want the EV1 when the leases were available.”…
-
This is retro bullshit propaganda. The EV leases WERE sought after. Dealerships were intentionally diverting many inquiries!
-
OF COURSE the EV1 Program wasn’t profitable. ANY program that is discontinued would have LOST MONEY hand over fist. GM couldn’t have turned any profit until the PRODUCTION MODELS would have come out FOR THEM TO SELL. Major League FREAKING DUH!
-
which leads me to the third thing you got completely wrong, you mysterious asshole: …”many of the people who did lease them became EV fanatics who wanted to keep them when the lease was over doesnt mean anything”… WAIT A MINUTE. ISN’T A PILOT PROGRAM USED TO JUDGE SUCCESS BASED ON CONSUMER REACTION? Do you like this vehicle? Yes? Score one for yes. Will you buy one if you can? Yes?
-
Need I go on, really?
-
If you respond, you vomitous mass… don’t be a pussy and let us know who you are.

That looks like a bad copy of a Camry. Very disappointing. By the time it comes to the dealerships Camry will bring a new design and it will be another 2-3 year until the next concept GM copies it again!

Adam
Sep 12, 2008 at 10:36 pm

I can’t believe this is the volt. Why do they always have to ruin concept cars? Guess what, people love the cars you design as concepts, why push it into something that looks like the same old every day shit? The original concept for the volt looked similar to the new camaro. Now the car looks like a prius. Maybe they wanted to appeal to a wider audience? Who knows. All I know is that they lost me as an interested buyer.

Felix P
Sep 12, 2008 at 8:26 pm

This is very disappointing, what happened to the concept Volt’s proportions? It’s a slap to the designers and another empty hype campaign to an apparent dull design. The GM execs hiding a full view doesn’t help. Even if all the innovation is under the skin, it doesn’t have much overt appeal. They led us to believe the Volt would compete with the Tesla or Fisker sedan. Without better styling or innovation, I doubt it will compete with solid Prius sales or others like the Honda Insight.

Looks like a Chevy Cobalt(blend). Should have kept it like the concept. Toyota is coming out with a better electric vehicle with the Toyota reliability. Sorry, GM you’re too late coming out with the Volt(Cobalt). Toyota’s been making the technology better while you guys are “rushing” to get something competitive out.

ummm. they made the Volt sumthing that the public outcry didnt expect. yes we loved its efficiency but the LOOKS of it being not another electro-pod brought a new appeal to the car. now its just another prius. i all but hate it now. im a die-hard import fan except for trucks which is where i would chose GM. that said the volt intrigued me ALOT and may have been on my list but now? no way in hell. i dont have to tote junk so sumbody just gimmie a coupe’ish hypbrid!! do you have to buy a tesla roadster nowadays to get good looks and great mileage. Fail, GM, FAIL!

Um, Alex… EV’s could have easily been profitable years ago. The EV1 lease holders didn’t want to let their electric rides to go back to GM and OBLIVION back in the ’90s. Hell, it was a pilot program and just from that bore a following strong enough that owners and former owners staged a mock funeral with the remaining ones before their leases expired!!!

Alex, you’re freaking clueless and better get your alignment checked buddy ’cause you’re veering constantly to the right, on the verge of losing control on occasion apparently.

Wow, crazy liberal bastards. They didn’t make it before because it was not profitable for the company to make them before or else they would have made them. Now that gas prices are higher, there is a demand for the product and thus they have turned to making them. There are companies out there with pure electric cars. Have you heard much about them? Probably not because it was not a profitable industry until now. YOU get bent and deal with the capitalist society you live in. Thank you and good day.

Sep 11, 2008 at 8:15 pm

Wow big surprise, rich white guys who all own SUVs and luxury cars posing in front of a Volt. I bet you none of them would ever be caught dead in one of those cars. This is pathetic. All of them should go to hell because we had the ability to make pure electric cars decades ago. Watch the movie “who killed the electric car” and see how that makes you feel about all these rich @$$holes. I do not understand why the big car manufacturers have taken so long to come out with a pure electric car.
btw when all these cars that are hybrids and electric come out what the heck are we supposed to do with all of our cars that are still in good condition? I have a 2005 Kia Spectra5 with only 35,000 miles on it and I have a 100,000 mile or 10 year warranty on it. What am i supposed to do with my car when these cars come out? Throw it away and get another? no way.

Chances are your not the market this car was aimed at and given some of the ugly cars on this web site, that’s like calling the kettle black. I like the Volt, earlier leaked pictures, proved this shape and I like it.

Its American and that’s more IMPORTANT any the other nonsense mentioned here. It will blow away the Prius or Honda’s Insight hybrid, there just underpowered. This car has a 160hp electric engine and ummm put your foot into it and it will merge onto the freeway without issue, go 40+ miles without a charge and get a combined 550+ miles total distance.

That’s from Los Angeles to The Bay Area without a re-fill and plenty to spare.

I’m excited about it and I can keep my 400+hp SRT-4 and drive a Volt to work in-between. Too bad its going to be about $30K+

Must foreign cars are made in U.S. Only the $$goes overseas….By the way some good old American Cars are assmebled in Canada (GM)I belive, and Mexico (Ford).Very few cars are imported. American cars are not what they used to be the Big 3 need to step it up.

Well, there’s a well thought out set of comments. Union worker maybe? Get over your emotional state and accept the fact the the VOLT, which this site is devoted to, is as boring as a car can be. If you did your homework, you’d see that ALL hybrid cars are butt-ugly. Style is a bigger shopping point than it seems most manufactures are willing to admit. Why are ALL the efficient cars ugly?

Also, seek therapy. You seem to have some pent up emotions.

Dan
Sep 11, 2008 at 5:00 pm

Let me start by saying I think the Volt is pretty damn ugly. I personally wouldn’t even think about getting behind the wheel simply based on looks, not maker, but as others have said in this post, Chevy is making an effort to give the consumer more of what is being demanded from them today (i.e. Hybrids, fuel efficient vehicles). American auto makers need to do something to keep up and get back in the game. Now, to all you foreign vehicle loving assholes, get bent! It’s idiots like you that are ruining this country. If you work in America, then buy American automobiles and goods. Just remember how much you all love your cute little Hondas and Toyotas and how long they last…well when you can’t find a solid job right here in America and can’t afford to eat, cook up your foreign auto and see if you can eat that!!!

*sigh* I swear, I’ll NEVER understand why car manufacturers dumb down the styling of their concept cars for production. Time after time after time, they get great show responses, then give us a different car wearing the same name. The concept was AWESOME. This “thing” is mediocre. Especially for the estimated prices I’ve seen. Pass.

John
Sep 11, 2008 at 6:37 am

@ Tony again
I took some time to actually look at this car instead of instantly complaining that I don’t like it, like other people. I looked past the guys smiling at me and ignored my dislike for GM products. Here is my opinion on this cars looks.
Approve:
Hood (I like the indent)
Headlights (I do like them and the light things below. The look like projectors which is awesome)
Taillights (Catchy)
Trunk? (Only the black part with the Chevy emblem and Volt badge. I want to see a better view to make a better opinion)
Rearview mirrors (I really like those. They look a lot like the mirrors from the Chevy Camaro concept)
Dislike:
Grill (Why bother if it blends in to the car)
Front end (It ruins the car. It’s large, round, and pointy all at the same time. Ugly, except lights and lip)
Length (How long, will it not fit in a parking space)
Ground effects (Front lip is alright, side skirts stick out because of color. Better if the car was darker like blue, black, shades of gray. Don’t like how skirts curve up by rear wheel)
.
Alright, so there is some constructive criticism, good and bad. The thing is this comes out in 2011 so how will this help us now. Even if I had the opportunity to buy this, I wouldn’t. I might however consider buying a car like this from an American company IF it looked good (like mine), powerful performance, and helped save the planet all at the same time. Until then I will stick to my foreign car.
So Tony, I will give 1 thumb up for GM for trying and 1 pointing down for being unoriginal. With one major improvement and some small ones this car would look really good. They are however starting to head in the right direction.

You know it’s bad when the Pinto and the Gremlin start looking like styling masterpieces next to these new crap mobiles. If those pencil neck geeks are the ones responsible for this car, then no wonder it looks like it does. Geeks can not style a car, they have no concept of what is cool. They must be the ones that did the Pontiac Aztek as well.

@ Tony
I know you may not be talking to me specifically but still, it was a blanket reply.
I am not a child, I’m not here to complain, and by all means am not here to impress you!
“lets give GM some credit for stepping up.” Ok Tony, here you go. Go GM go! Now try again!
So let’s blame Americans for ruining the economy because we import cars. Why blame us for wanting quality and something that will last. Just because it is mad in America doesn’t mean it is good.
I have a better idea though. How about we go to the source and stop the main reason why our economy sucks. If you have watched the news in the last year, you know what I am talking about.
How about this as well? People should stop paying for things on credit that they don’t have money for. That might help a bit.
Do you know what will happen when America doesn’t have any decent automotive jobs left?
We won’t be driving cars made by GM. Well be driving foreign cars. So what will that prove, Hmm?
You know who I will be laughing at then; American car manufacturers, for not listening to society and providing what they want.
Also Tony, go back to school and learn how to spell “grammer”.

wow… GM is doing us such huge favors by copying the style of a Scion, and giving us a lame excuse for an electric/hybrid in 2011 that is vastly outperformed by the EV1 – the ALL electric produced & sold back in 1992. Too bad they were lease only, and GM repossesed all of them after the oil companies paid them off.

What happen too the Concept? This thing looks nothing like it.
Why is it that they really think they can push these little crap cars on the public.
What it is, GM is scared that this kind of car will not do as well as they hope, and they are trying too hard to make this car cheaper to build.
Keep the “Bean Counters out of it”
If you want to sell me a car, “MAKE IT STAND OUT” How is it better? How is it different? What’s so cool about it?
If I wanted a “shit box” I’d don’t think I’m going to pay extra for a “Electric” one.
The “Volt Concept” Got my attention because it looked better than the “Prius”
“Way 2 Go” F’n “DIP SHATS”

dude, alex should learn how to spell before talking shit and calling the guys at chevy “dune” asses. You look like more of a dumbass by not spelling correctly. I’m not a chevy fan, but I don’t outright hate a company who is trying to make a vehicle that doesn’t pollute.

By the sounds of these reviews, it sounds as though all of you are nothing more than children who are only here to complain and drop a few cuss words, woo hoo I’m not impressed.

Seriously, the design may not be great, but let’s give GM some credit for stepping up. All of these foreign car makers are crushing us in this economy. Go ahead and post your useless bashes and someday when there are no good automotive jobs left, then well see who’s laughing.

Go back to school and learn proper grammer before you try to come in here and write ridiculous remarks that bring nothing to this forum except disgust.

GM…nice work. Keep it up!

WOW IS THIS THING UGLY OR WHAT! CHEVY REVOLT.

Leave it to the Americans to build yet another monstrosity.

I think 1990 to 2002-ish and a few years after depending on manufacturer were the best years for cars.
They look good and if I were to choose any car from any dealership now it would most likely be from that era. There are exceptions like:

Don’t read this if you don’t like my opinion so far.
Acura, BMW (some), Audi, Cadillac (some), Dodge (Challenger and some trucks), Honda (SI, s2000, Fit. Other models are ugly now, wtf happened), Jeep (NO Wrangler Classic or Compass), Land Rover, Lexus (Some models), Mazda (Mazda in the name with a number and the RX-8 and Miata), Mercedes-Benz (some), Mini Cooper (not the John someone model, UGLY, wtf were they thinking), Nissans (coups, no looonng 4 doors or ugly bulky trucks), Saab (some), Scion (except the xD ), Subaru, Toyotas, Volvo, VW

I don’t know what happened to car manufacturers and why the designs suck now. Maybe after the year 2000 people thought we had to be more futuristic or something since it was a new millennium.
Maybe Americans build cars huge and bulky to enhance a false sense of security while driving
Maybe there was a poll or memo I missed out on that asked or talked about how new cars are all going to eventually turn into metal (or incredibly breakable plastic) bubbles with so many wires, machines, robots, and computers controlling it that a NASA scientist couldn’t figure it out.
I do not know. So now when I see someone driving down the road with their new escalade, I think what a POS and look the other way.

Someone please stop this madness before it consumes all the good car companies and turns them into mindless bubble car making machines.

Oh yah and WTF are all those guys posing with the Revolt smiling about?

Mike 22
Sep 9, 2008 at 10:25 pm

What happened to the 19″ & 20″ wheel package? Thay should’ve kept the concept look with a 3.8 supercharged like the impala SS or the GTP was a few years ago. But overall, depending on the powertrain packages that they offer this may be a better look. If Chevy really wants a contending sports compact car, something that will score huge in the consumers eyes, They should offer this car with 4 packages. -1) base, 4 cyl, 5spd, this body and paint style, etc -2) 4cyl, auto, more premier version -3) the 6 cyl version -4) 6cyl turbo or super, 6spd, AWD, prem sound, smooth looking body package including a chin spoiler and hood scoop, short side skirts, and a touring wing w/ touring paint schemes. Maybe even throw those large wheels back in there with the Touring package for handling purposes. Say good bye to these subaru’s… With a turbocharged 300 all wheel hp compact car about the size of a neon w/ style those muscle car drivers wouldn’t be able to hold themselves back. But since we know Chevy isn’t going to do this I think it looks stupid.

its gunna flop. wgat was GM thinking they were finaly walking a strate line and they had a good idea and instead of putting what the consumer wants first they whent cheap it seems this it is an emerging whith GM it seems that just when they seem to be doing well they go back ti the old ways that are killing them there like a crack adict now HURY UP AND HIT ROCK BOTTOM ALL REDY!!!!!!!!!

the reason why it looks so different from the concept is that the concept failed horribly in windtunnel testing

Sep 9, 2008 at 8:21 pm

This thing is a joke. The concept looked so much better. Also, get rid of that plastic thing on the fender. It looks as bad as the 08 ford focus, and give those headlights back to honda. Looks like an egg.

well, yea, i agree with all of you, it looks like and ugly prius. but don’t forget, Prius sold A LOT. of course they want a car like the Prius, even tho it does look like a whale turd. the concept probably would have sold more tho, just cuz it looked so amazing. i just wish they could make an electric car that dosen’t look like crap, and i was hoping it was the Volt, but i guess it didn’t work out. o well, if it sells like the prius did, it might just save GM…. hahahahaha.

Sep 9, 2008 at 2:25 pm

Wow, that is pathetic. NOTHING LIKE the original. I think only thing that has been kept from the original is the badging and the Side Glass.

What a shame. Still I guess people will buy them but, man is that UGLY! Guess if I want an electric car it will be a prius or something of the like…

Sep 9, 2008 at 6:15 am

@GTwildfire

The reason GM and most automakers remove almost all of the things that make the concept cars cool is one reason; to progress the ideation of these concepts slowly over time in order to build hype and allow the customers to look forward to said future designs year after year. It sounds ridiculous and I myself cannot stand the mediocrity in which these vehicles are produced, and begin to wonder if GM, FORD, CHRYSLER can step their game up and produce cars almost or as close to those beautiful concepts cars they proudly display at various shows. And GM wonders why they are doing horrible in the sales department..

..and thats why the Japanese/Germans etc. is spanking the U.S. in sales!!

Gm there lame colors weak lines, and day late $1 short styling…..

And its shares platforms with 84 different gm Models, and all handle like turds with big wheels and high center of gravity, on splishy tires with ugly rims…

Sep 9, 2008 at 4:45 am

the car is not my taste i still think it looks kinda good but im glad to see gm taking the step forward to get this car a production car and i hope to see more cars like this (not look wise) but more!!! plus the concept looks 1000times better but you never knwo this may just be the economy 4 door model and the sport 2 door concept style could still be out there (for 10k more hahaha!!) they will get our money at the end of the day no matter what!

Phantomdeity
Sep 8, 2008 at 10:48 pm

All I can—yawn—say is that this—yawn—production version of the Volt is boring. As far as I can tell, the only thing that this vehicle shares with the concept aside from the name is the drivetrain.

What more can you expect from a bunch of dorky stuffed-shirt execs from a bloated dinosaur like GM though?

Harrison
Sep 8, 2008 at 8:57 pm

The Chevy Volt looks amazing! Can’t wait for them to hit the dealers.

GTwildfire
Sep 8, 2008 at 8:15 pm

That’s pretty much the definition of “Production vehicle”… take all the excitement the concept stirred up with its badass rims and other awesome features you just don’t see in your own ride and other *ahem* production cars… then remove all of that innovation and awesomeness and make it available.
-
Are auto makers clueless, don’t care or are intentionally dousing the aftermarket’s fire with jet aircraft fuel? Whatever the case may be, it has become a time-honored tradition within the industry… and an eternal annoyance for many.

Chris

Sep 8, 2008 at 6:29 pm

My first thought was “can I see the car without a guy in front of it?” My second was (and I quote myself) “That looks kinda cool… almost.” I understand how important things like coefficient of drag are on efficient cars like this so I know why it doesn’t look like the concept, but is a Chevy Malibu with a body kit really something to strive for?
