In the second year of my Mechanical Engineering coursework, I had to take a materials science class, and we were given a very similar example. It turns out that even though ceramic materials like glass and tea cups seem extremely fragile because they shatter when you drop them a couple of inches, they can support HUGE compressive loads. You just have to apply them gradually so you don't shatter your cup!

I wish I could go check out this display in person. Lamborghini Superlegerra AND fun material properties!
