Ford Hits 1000 Pre-Orders For Focus RS

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Pricing details haven’t even been announced yet, but that’s not stopping European customers from gobbling up the 2009 Focus RS. Ford is reporting that 40% of those thousand applicants have specified the Electric Green paint—the color worn by the Focus at the London Motor Show in July. Other top choices include Electric Blue and Frozen White, but I’m kind of thinking that for 295 hp, I’ll take it in any color they’ve got. Ford UK’s hot hatch will get a turbo’d inline five—the Volvo motor—as well as a short-throw six speed and the "Revoknuckle" electronic torque biasing limited-slip differential, said to completely eliminate torque steer. Too bad Ford is still debating on whether to bring us an Americanized version! More pics after the jump.

Hell Ya! This thing is bad ass. And the electric Green looks exactly like the green on the Porsche 997 GT3! Looks good, that interior is top notch, if Ford doesn’t bring this car to the states, I can no longer be a “Ford guy!” It’s hard to argue for domestic car companies when they don’t even sell their best products, IN AMERICA!!!!!

you are an idiot to say that a civic is better than a focus…better mileage, yes. but that’s all that is can do….

I don’t know, looks like they threw an Impreza WRX STI body with an EVO X Nose, mashed it together, made it a coupe and said “Here you go, the 2009 Focus RS!”

This is just what FOMOCO needs to get back on top of things! I have NEVER liked the Focus, but this thing looks absolutely wicked!

This will be the first REAL performance in a small car that Ford has produced in twenty plus years! The last was the Mustang SVO and the T-Bird Turbo Coupe. Ford looks to have come out of the closet with this baby and they would do well to sell this car in the states. I can only see positive ramifications from the release of this car.

To the guy who wrote that Civic Si’s are the best, I think your off your rocker on that one! Ford just hit a home run!

When can I get mine???!!!???

import the mofo!! thats got to be one of the sweetest thing to come out af a ford factory (obviously excluding the ford gt) mustangs are nice but they only have 5 more hp and i bet this things probably a little bit nice. with 100 more hp than a civic SI this thing kicks ass

nearly 300hp Id say its a decent little car i imagine its pretty light so it prolly would be pretty damn quick for what it is

FORD SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CIVIC SI IS WAY BETTER

I Think They Should Bring It To The U.S. Its Really Cool. All The Import Companies Like Mitsubishi, And Volks Wagen Are Selling Nice Sporty Cars. Why Do We Americans Have To Choose Between A Big American V8, A Tiny Little l4 That Bearly Runs like The Chevy Aveo, and An IMPORT V6 Or L4 Sports Car That Runs Very Nice, When There Is An American Company That Makes Nice Cars Like This Focus That Don’t Have Such A Big Engine And Could Be In The Same (Sporty or Tuner) Category As The Lancer Evolution Or The Subaru Impreza WRX. I Don’t Understand Why They Don’t Sell Them Here. It Would Bring A Lot Of Customers, And It Would Help The Economy.

I wonder if it is the T5 engine from the volvo c30. I’d take a c30 over this any day.

Damn that’s a tight car! Reminds me of the new STI Imprezzas with the hatch. It would be nice to have it here in the States even though I’m sure it would barely pass emissions. Too bad we gotta worry about emissions and crashes cuz we get the slow ass flex0fuels and hybrds while Europe (who doesn’t give a fuck about people dying on the road from stupidity) gets the hot 5mpg super cars.

If now isn’t a good time for small hot hatches (or any body) in America, when is? Ford just doesn’t get it.

GM has the Cobalt SS Turbo, Dodge has the Caliber SRT, there is the MS3, WRX and GTi. These all sell well (the Dodge worst of all) and gas won’t be any cheaper. I know that the T5 won’t get great gas mileage, but it will be viewed as an economical choice if brought here.

WHAT is FORD DEBATING ON…BRING THAT RS to the AMERICAN SOIL, so WE CAN ABUSE the SH*T out of it !!!

Adam
Sep 13, 2008 at 10:35 pm

Wow, we get damn hybrids and overseas they get things like this.
I’m sorry, but the gas efficient car trend is dumb. If they bring things like this back to the US, maybe they’ll pick up business.

My car is still better than the RS….of course all the money I poured into it; and if they had them in the states, I could make this much much more powerful. Pfffff. Come on FORD! Give is the RS!

i think its kinda cool. i kinda like the design. it looks hella F-ing better than any other ugly honda or import hatchback. But at the same time it makes an American company look bad. Why are we catering to the ricer-freaks? Ford needs to stick with american muscle. maybe in europe they like different designs like the ford ka, but lets not start designing cars that make us look as low as honda.

Jay
Sep 13, 2008 at 2:03 pm

I most say this RS looks sick this would be the only Ford that i would ever buy, that is if Honda wouldnt make a TYPE R but Honda did so i will stick with the TYPE R. Still this RS is sick just bring it over to the USA mofos

To hell with the Americanized version, those always look like crap compared to their Eruopean counterparts. If I were to buy one of these, it would be the pictured or nothing (especially in that color).

This Focus model would sell like hotcakes here in the US. Too bad the execs in Ford are a bunch of dinks…

Austin
Sep 12, 2008 at 8:40 am

Of course we won’t see it. In Europe they are already on the MK III chassis of the Focus, we here in the US, well, we are still on the MK I chassis. I have not figured out why Ford, along with several other car companies(VW included)are afraid to bring their European cars over here. It just kinda makes sense to do so.
