Latest Update From Team Size Matters

By Rob Einaudi

Here’s the latest from Tom of Team Size Matters, running in the Toledo 24 Hours of Lemons:

Took my second stint in the car  from about midnight to 2 am. Drove VERY slow as I did not want to get another black flag and have our team get kicked out for our fourth black flag.

It is almos 3 am now and it looks like the rain they said would come did not,  which is fantastic news since our car has very aggressive summer autocross tires on it  we are currently in sixth place which is not bad considering we have had about an hour in driver penalties and two minor breakdowns.

Just got another black flag at 3:10 am  they were supposed to kick usout but gave us a reprieve since we got hit in the rear end which sentus into the grass  we get to go back out at 3:38.

After the penalty we got back out on the track and started to make somelaps. Our drive went the full two hours but in the middle of the runthe trunk lid flew open. We had a clever hood pin type system for thetrunk to make it easy to open and close but apparently the stress of thetrunk lid moving up and down broke away the pins from the trunk gutterrail.  Since it did not effect the performance of the car (well otherthan not being able to see behind you) our driver stayed out foranother 30 minutes until the first caution where we used the high techdevice called a bungee cord to hold down the trunk lid.

It is about 6:30 am now and i hope this sounds coherent, been up for 24hours straight now and still have 9 more hours of racing to go. Haveabout 20 cars running of the original 50 car starting grid.

Things are looking up for team rocket restorations, we have run penaltyfree for a couple of hours now and are in 5th place but moreimportantly are the top American car which was the award we wanted towin going into this. We are competing with a Crown Vic cop car(which ran into a wall but managed to not get a black flag) and a verysick dodge neon. We are ahead of the pack right but will see how itgoes.  9:00 am here at Toledo raceway.

Just did another hour and a half stints we have our driver scheduledown for the rest of the day.  It is about 11 am now and we are in 6thplace just behind the chia pet neon. They keep on pitting because ofmechanical issues so hoping we can pass them while they are off thetrack. They are faster than us right now but we had to dial it WAYback as to not get kicked out of the ace.

Peoples curse is at noon and always entertaining. The racers get to chose one car to crush!

Stay tuned for more…
