Anybody Want A Marlin?

By Ron

aka WayTooFurious

I always like seeing cars that are out of the ordinary. Have a look at this photo: although it may bear some resemblance to a Dodge Charger, it’s actually an AMC Marlin. This was AMCs attempt to raise its profile with the car-buying public. Released in 1965 as the Rambler Marlin, and simply called the Marlin from ‘67 to ‘68, the fastback was initially built upon AMC’s mid-size Rambler. The major change for the model came in 67 when it was based on the new Ambassador platform. With sales lagging, the Ambassador-based Marlin was replaced with the now-legendary Javelin in 1968. The Marlin has always been a relatively rare car, and there are only a few listed on Car Domain, like Steve’s and Ron’s. However if you would like a piece of Marlin action, there’s currently a project listed on eBay for next to nothing. Check it out.

The vehicle is so sweet. Hope I had one.

Is it mean or is there a mustang resemblance on the back?

Seen one at a show recently. Hadn’t seen one in decades, but its looks are unmistakeable.

…just didn’t know what the hell it was until I got close and could read the emblems.

Rare and desirable are not always one and the same. I have seen plenty of Marlins, but they are Ramblers. As a former Rambler owner, I have learned to avoid AMC products.
