What Did You Do This Weekend?
By Jen Dunnaway

In addition to checking out Fleury’s, where I got a bumper off a first-gen Escort that I found sitting atop this pile of junk cars, I also went with new CarDomain member Chris to check out Kar Korner, the classic-car dealership in North Seattle. Now I’d never buy a car from a dealership—the prices here were totally out to lunch—but scoping out the selection was definitely fun. They had a ton of great cars out on the lot, and the showroom was like a museum. I loved the ’55 Pontiac Chieftan with the internally-illuminated hood ornament, the rat-rod Lincoln convertible was great except for the price, and this ’72 Pontiac hearse had my blackened little zombie heart thumpin’. See them all after the jump!
What about you—what did you do this weekend?

We took a family trip to Mid-Ohio for the NASA race. I got a few good pics but have not loaded them yet. I just bought an awesome new camera so I have been playing with it. It has a cool feature that allows me to take anywhere from 6-20 pictures per second. I have one series that shows one of the 944s missing a corner, driving through the edge of the sand then back up the grass to the track. I am thinking of printing them out and making a flip book out of them. The bad thing is, after 4 1/2 hours at the track I had about 450 pictures to sort through.

Took my xB Autocrossing! After a bunch of BS finding a group that would let me run it I got up at 6:30am to drive over an hour ion the rain to a parking lot. There I got to alternately stand in blazingly hot & humid sun or drive like a loon through a bunch of sadistically arranged cones.
But I shaved 4 seconds off my time from first to last run, and didn’t come in last, which was enough for me my first time out.

Just did my basic tune up! found out that i’m running really low on oil so that will be taken care of tomorrow! Tried out my super old amp just to find out that it’s not working.
GTwildfire, is that car you’re trying to swap the axles for your daily driver? if not then just go for it and try it! Unless it’s your daily driver and you can’t risk making the mistake.

I tried in vain to find info on whether the rear, axle and disc brakes from a ’97 equipped with a 3800 could be installed on a ’94 equipped with a 3400 V6. If anyone has knowledge of this PLEASE PLEASE chime me in. I have a whole rear, complete and ready to purchase. This upgrade could give me discs in the rear and a better differential.

Continued the process of machine brushing some metal components in the engine compartment or on the engine. Steel that is machine brushed is then shot in high-temp clearcoat. Aluminum is or isn’t, depending on the circumstances. This isn’t just getting what I can at certain angles, disassembly is done and parts are removed for refinishing as necessary. I’m thinking of removing all pulleys and brushing/clearcoating them. Between the red of the body, the black refinish of the block/covers/etc and the machine brushed parts, the whole thing – although pretty much stock – is looking awesome. I just gotta get some pics up soon.

Also, I painted the calipers in 3 coats of red ceramic paint and wouldn’t you know it, the red perfectly matches the body color.
