Truck Rescue Prompts Truck Rescue

By John Coyle

There are few things funnier than a situation going sideways in slow motion, and that’s why this botched truck rescue is so hilarious. You have to feel a little bad for the crew, because the guys probably had just enough time to start congratulating each other before it was clear their operation was about to become a massive fail. At least it looks like nobody got hurt. Enjoy!

Stationary heavy wreckers just have spades in the back. It’s rotators that have outriggers in the front of the vehicle. That was an upright with airbag assist under the trailer which is easy to do with one truck with the right capacity. If the whole unit was still aired up of course it would still roll back that’s why you ALWAYS block the wheels with large wood chocks. Aired up or not.

Hmmm… Hilarious, but a few concerns come to mind. First, it looks as if the wrecker did not have outriggers deployed. Second, aren’t air brakes supposed to lock automatically when there is no air pressure, or low air pressure? If so, why didn’t the driver disconnect the airline from the tractor to the trailer before beginning the lift. Third, I now see why O’Hare out of Chicago always uses a pair of wreckers to right a rollover. Lastly, why on earth did the wrecker operator not give slack to the line when the semi began rolling? I am curious to know if this was a training film for wrecker driver certification.

Oh well, I hope no one was injured.

Blessings to all,

Ah, the joys of the handbrake. Or rather, the lack of handbrake.

Apparently they forgot about putting chocks behind the semi. That is a big oops.

That’s great – reminds of this one, even worse outcome: http://jalopnik.com/352317/how-not-to-lift-an-overturned-truck?autoplay=true
