2010 Nissan 370Z vs. 2010 Chevy Camaro: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
Ok, so I’m mixing it up again, but these cars are both brand new for the 2010 model year. Pricing isn’t official, but the V8 Camaro and 370Z will likely start somewhere near (and probably north of) the $30k mark. Yes, the V8 Camaro has more hp and more seats, but that comes with more weight. The 370Z’s 3.7 liter V6 is expected to put out around 350 hp, while the big 6.2 liter V8 in the Camaro will produce around 400 hp. Both cars are RWD and have IRS. Oh, and the Nissan pic to the left is a photochop I found–the car won’t be officially revealed until the LA Auto Show in November (edit: this may be a better rendition). So, which would you choose?

Well… I read a lot of stupidity as I was browsing down these comments. I have always primarily been a Japanese automaker biast fan. Don’t get me wrong, The all new Chevy Camaro SS is a breath taking, fantastically built machine that I would most definitely purchase. Its just these raging idiots that post these unresearched comments that drives me away from wanting to be a part of that culture. Although the Camaro has an impressive 400+ LS3 engine under the hood mated with their 6-speed manual tranny, the 370z impressive V6 (that is nearly half the size of its competitors) post equal accelaration numbers. So why nissan needs to put more costs into squeezing in a beefy, gas guzzling v8 into its Z is a mind boggling thought to me. Ok, maybe that was just the uneducated thought of one redneck that posted a comment prior to mine. As for on the track, come on now. Yes the american muscle car market has come a long way on keeping its rubber on the pavement while hitting a curve at 80mph but to say that the chevy can out run the Z on a track is outrageous. All in all, they are both killers with neck breaking styling that are sure to get second and third looks from the beautiful blonde bombshell while you’re cruising down sunset blvd. I would probably still buy the 370Z next year because of the unlimited potential of the VQ37. Imagine slapping a a big fat turbo to that thing! But the camaro would definitely give you all the thrills while allowing you the opportunity to help keep GM alive. USA!

All in all, they are both nice cars. Honestly, anything new is nice because no matter what one does to it there’s always that good old WARRENTY! For starters… all of the “tuners” should refrain from posting here. These cars are both front engine and rear drive, so please stop trying to convince the world on how you think your Honda Civic is so much better than everything else. We don’t care!
Someone here mentioned on how the Z car needs a V8. Couldn’t agree more! No matter how much horse Nissan puts into that V6 they’ll never really get the job done right. Hp sells cars…Torque wins races! And nothing beats that ROAR of a V8 at high rpm’s! For $30+K you just don’t really get much bang for your buck. Espeacially when for $25K I can go into a Ford dealer pick up a new GT Mustang and put $5K of work into her and drive off with 360 to 390 hp respectfully. And yes thats with a 4.6L V8, so it doesn’t weigh a ton and does get supprisingly good mpg. Another thing…domestics are not un-relieable, heavy tanks! The 370Z and the GT Mustang are close within a 100lbs. I’m sure the Camaro will be too! The only heavy modern American muscle car is the Challenger and what it lacks in being light it more than makes up for in raw hp. Try taking a 350Z up against one of those HEMI’s and its all over for you!
As for “drifting” its an American invention! That’s right we did it first! I can do it with grace and style in my 73′ Pontiac. Don’t believe me than go rent “Diamonds are forever” (James Bond 007). He did it in a 71′ Mach I. As for “reliablity” in American cars… com’on people this isin’t 1975 and your not buying a pinto! Get over it and put up or shut up until you try a new GM, Ford or Dodge product. There matched in quality! Its been proven for some time now. You can’t fault Ford if you haven’t changed your oil in 20K miles in your Tarus. I can’t kill my 89′ S-10 with 263K original miles. I already shot the dam thing with a 45! Maybe I’ll try burning it next!
My 08′ GT Mustang w/5 speed stick gets 19/30mpg. What does your Corolla get?

The camaro is a big fat pos. it figures that gm would come out with something that is ugly and no one will buy.

Dec 5, 2008 at 3:39 am
Fuck nissan and the z. The Camaro will stomp all over that POS. In typical import fashion, I’m sure that nissan is exaggerating it’s horsepower numbers. The 370Z will probably have a hard time trying to beat the new V6 Camaros.

Commenting J Piimp:
What is GM and chevy really going to do? Instantly lay off thousands of employees?
The camaro would absolutely destroy the Z car.
the Z is nice, but i dont think it has the grunt or the handling to beat chevy’s camaro.
Hopefully, Nissan wont overrate it as much as the GTR.
the camaro is heavy, but with that weight comes 50 extra HP, and lots of torque.

I think that overall performance will go to the Z this time. Nissan just brought out the GTR and I can’t see them stopping there at bringing out great cars. The bar has been set!! Now I’m not saying that the Z will be anything like or better than the GTR but they should be going in the right direction by now. What’s chevy got…. the Cobalt SS….Lame and Ugly. And besides everyone knows that imports are just better!!

Considering Chevrolet probably wont make it through this recession id stick with the nissan. They will still be around years from now.

If it was a 350z I would pick 350z without blinking, because its my favorite car, but since Nissan is a fag company that puts the fag g37s engine inside and make it look like a g37 let them go fuck their whole race. g37 is the worst car ever made for me I hate that car with all my gutts. This is the worst thing that nissan could ever do and they did it. i hope that gay company will go to bankruptcy. Their too fucking lazy to make a new engine and a new design for the new z and make it v8 450z with 430hp. That already says that their fags to not do that. No dignity company. Where was g35 or g37 when there was z’s UP THEIR ASS THATS WHERE!!!! Go fuck yourself Nissan. Ill take the Camaro SRT8 and kill that 370z or should i say g37.

It would be a tossup there are things I like about both these cars.
But a base 370z would be a lot lighter and I think more fun.

Sep 29, 2008 at 1:44 pm
I’d take the Camaro. I’m more of an import fan but the Z is starting to get a little fugly. I blame Nissan for trying to add too many styling cues from the GTR on the rest of its fleet (like the new Maxima’s headlights).

If the Chevy wins, i think those guys are blind! i no the next Z has alil changed but u still can’t compare ur chevy to my Z, if u chose Porsche to compare wz Z ,that’s ok! at least u chose Europe cars to comapared wz Japanese cars! or u just make a big joke! all in all, i can’t keep my eyes away from Z.

I do prefer Japanese cars just because you can beat the crap out of them and they keep on running. Also you can squeeze alot out of a Jap 4 banger. I drive a Mazda 3, hands down best car on the road. But in this comparo I’d pick the camaro. The Z is just plain ugly, whats with the snaggle teeth comming up from the bottom lip? The Camaro is a real looker and with 400hp on tap with no mods….Look out!

i like how the muscle car guys think they are faster than the 4 banger imports, they are. but barely the 4 and 6 cylinder are making just as much hp as the v8’s. every domestic thats a v6 or smaller are way slower than imports. as well 4 and 6 cylinder imports are just that good to compete with the american v8’s!

Sep 20, 2008 at 1:14 am
hey chuck, i don’t think you know what you are talking about. first of all, a muscle car is best for what you BUILD it to do. my muscle car was built for the circuit, so yes it can take a turn, better and faster than your gay Evo you go on about. and dude, i dare you to find a V8 with 422 HP and 25 Mpgs. your precious vantage dosen’t have that. speaking of a Vantage, how much does one cost again? oh yea $113400. how can you even comapare an expensive car like that to a $30,000 Camaro. if you took the money you would have left over from getting the camaro instead of the Vantage, you would eaisly be able to afford upgrades and stuff for your camaro and school any V8 Vantage out there. its a muscle car, BUILD it. you can build it to do anything you want it to do. most guys just like drag racing, so they build theirs for drag racing. some guys like to race the circuit, so they build it for the circuit, heck muscle cars make great drift cars. rear wheel drive and lots of toque, that makes for some good drifting, and they have lots of weight to throw around. you don’t even know dude!

“V8 had been bumped up to 4.7 liters and a very healthy 420 hp”-Aston martin Vantage…haha seriously man dont u people see? an american made 4.6 mustang barely makes the 300hp? does anybody get my point? wtf man if u got a 6.2? shouldnt u have alot more? what a waste of weight and crappy engine just abigg engine and a bunch of useless weight that cant make turns sure it looks good it does cant deny it but its useless it only works on a straight line has no otehr use? i mean come on theres a reason an f1 driver said if he had more money when he was younger he would had gotten an evo…peopel who lieks muscle cars= people who cant drive and need an engine to do teh job for them on a straight line real drivers= drives who can take turns

The Z doesnt look much different. Ive never really cared too much about the 350z. The 300zx was the best IMO. So Im going with the camaro on this one. It has that “pissed off” look to it. I love the body lines. Hopefully it performs well.

They are both going to be great cars. The current 350Z is a fun car but doesnt have the oomph as some cars that have less factory rated horsepower… Say a 2004 GT mustang. So I can only image how bad the Z28 would destroy the 370Z when they come out. Chevy is good for trying to underate their power claims. Road course, and luxury wise the 370Z is going to be way about the Camaro. I would still chose the camaro though

The camaro looks like a cheaply-made toy. Z all the way. Oh, and Scotty must have forgotten to put the price of supercharging a V8 – probably about $6,000+. and since turbo kits for the 350z’s make about 425 wheel, i’d say a turbo kit for the 3.7 would bump it to 450+

Sep 19, 2008 at 5:01 pm
well – id take either car really…but think of it this way…you get the 370Z with 350BHP — ok — Camaro with 400BHP — ok — in either car you plan boost up the HP, you’ll spend $3,000 on a turbo for the Z which will probably get you to 400HP maybe 425(ish)…in other turn…get in the Camaro, get a belt driven supercharger for it, bada bing bada boom, you’re lookin in the 500HP range…besides…c’mon…who doesn’t love the sound of a V8 rumble??? (((not taking sides, im a car fanatic all around. just voicing my opinion

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Police are searching for the thieves who broke into Roush Yates Engines in Mooresville on Monday night and stole three NASCAR racing engines.
The 358 cubic inch Ford engines are worth $50,000 each and weigh more than 500 pounds.
Workers at the shop told police the engines were kept on rollers.
Police say the thieves busted a hole into a wall of the shop and rolled the engines out into a stolen Penske rental van.
The van was found a few miles away from Roush Yates, but the engines are still missing.

I don’t get why you people always have to go racist on things like this. If you don’t like the car, then just say that you don’t like it! Why do you have to go and say things like “I don’t fuck with rice” or stuff like this. White people always have to go stereotype huh? Creating racism seems to be your specialty too.

Nissan was stupid for not throwing a V8 into the Z. Plus, saying 370z is like one-too-many syllables and just saying Z people know wtf you’re talking about, like with oh, the Corvette…?
and the Camaro, i mean its great that it does have a 6 speed manual available on all trim levels, and the automatics are a 6 speed as well. I personally would have changed the tail lights, but I guess you can’t have it all.
The main point people don’t appear to realize is that this isn’t some pussy V6 that they have as the base engine, it actually has 300hp and 276lb-ft of torque with 3.6L while the V8, with nearly double the displacement has 422 hp. These are official numbers, i actually took the time to look on the Chevy website half expecting that the 26mpg from the V6 would not be worth it.
I would take the Camaro on styling, if the new Z looks like that I will NOT drive one.

Really some one thinks that the camero is gonna be more rare then the 370Z? Ever here how well the Camaros sold their 1st years? I bet with the name badge gone for a few years and all the new “retro” muscle cars I bet they will be snatched up like candy for years to come. I personaly hope thats not what the Z’s look like. In my opinion both nice cars, not suitable for my driving purposes but when it comes down to it I’d probably go with relability. And the Nissan has a better history of that, my friends car 89 240SX and 327K miles on it all original engine and tranny, anyone seen that on a camaro?

ok to the people saying that the camaro can only go fast in a straight line…how many of you guys actually go drifting? seriously. My vote goes to the Camaro.

Sep 18, 2008 at 8:34 pm
K, its hard to really make an informed decision without any research. so i decided to check it out, cuz i’m really bored.
and from what i have seen, the Camaro has an excellent suspension package. They say it might even trump the suspension in the Vette. and i’m a fan of the drifting, and i know from expierence that a rear wheel drive V8 (422 HP, 408 ft,lb Torque) motor does well on the drift track. and of course it will do well on the drag strip and the circuit as well, with that much HP. it will also get 23 mpgs, which is really amazing for a V8. as far as the 370Z goes…
——————————————————————————
not much is known, but they do know that it will be powered by the same 3.7 that is in the G37 Coupe. they say it is a high Torque motor for being a V6 (330 hp, 270 ft,lb torque). that also makes it good for drifting. however, there is less weight to throw around. And its a 2 seater, so lighter for the drag strip & stuff. it will also look a lot like the 350z, but with differently styled headlights.
——————————————————————————
well, after researching a little bit, it looks like the Camaro takes the cake. it seems like the 370z is a cool car, but it doesn’t stand up to the performance of the Camaro.
here are my sources.

Wow, people really think American cars can’t handle well. They need to realize that American manufacturers built cars after 1960. Their head is stuck so far up their ass that they don’t realize that there is a lot of technology in American cars. Also, why do you think they put low profile tires on the Camaro, because they just look cool? Yeah, that must be it, because they don’t mean it might handle any better. And the suspension setup can’t be any good either because I said so. I’m kind of tired of all the bs the import boys spew every time they open their mouths.

Let’s be realistic: The Camaro will only go fast in a straight line, because that’s all American cars are good for (except the Corvette). The Nissan Z has always been an all around great sports car for drag, drift, racetrack, touge, you name it, the Z dominates it.

I would choose the Camaro, Chevy has had an act lately of supercharging and turbocharging cars ,i think there is a rumor saying that there will be a Camaro SS which will blow the 370z out of the water

The Camaro is a real Mucel Car.
The 370z a Sports car at best.

Why Not ask,

http://www.chevrolet.com/camaro/pdf/2010+Camaro+Specifications.pdf
that link will take you to ALL the Camaro specifications. Everything, from MPGs to Torque to Horse power and transmission and suspension. EVERYTHING. i mean, come on, who wouldn’t go camaro, it is by far the superior car. and i’m sick of you retarded people saying that american cars aren’t reliable. i used to have a 1967 Ford F250. yes, it broke a lot, cuz it was old, but as long as i fixed it, it ran great. if you really want a reliable car, figure out how it works and fix it yourself. hahaha, one time my truck wouldn’t start, so i kicked the door, and it started, hahahaha. unlike my little honda. that thing SUCKS, have to wiggle all the stupid wires to get it to freaking start, and something is wrong with the computer i think, i hate computers. UUUGGGHHH. CAMARO ALL THE WAY hahaha

This is actually a really good comparison. I would personally take the Camaro simply due to the fact that it looks so bad ass! My little brother has the 350Z Grand Touring Model with the Brembo Brake package and Volk TE37’s and it’s a fun ass car to drive. But I just don’t understand how a car that big can’t have a back seat, and if not, why the hell the trunk is so small?!? As for the Camaro, Chevy has innovated the way people look at American cars with their ZO6, so I know if they put in the work, this Camaro will handle as good as the Z with more power to boot! Camaro takes this challenge.

First off, Nissan doesnt need to make V8’s hence the GTR, us nissans can easily catch V8’s. And also, they dont just make 4 bangers, they make V6’s as well most of which are at least single turbo’d if not twin. All i know is Nissan better enjoy the fame with the GTR while they can because once that camaro comes out, its goin to pretty damn hard to compete with it.
Anonymous
Sep 18, 2008 at 2:42 pm
Why is Nissan even trying to make a V8 car? Haha. Thats quite the joke. American muscle cars are V8s. Nissan, Honda, and everyone else stick to your silly little 4 bangers. We know you will never get a V8 right.

I`ve heard so much shit about the old 350Z that i decided to rather go for the Audi TT,a year ago when i decided to buy another car…don`t know if the new 350 is much more improved…how does the Camaro handle?….it`s heavy!….weight is a big enemy of performance!…i like the look of the 350Z….maybe i`ll rather go for the Camaro!???

The only thing that would change my opinion on this import vs. domestic showdown is reliability. However, Nissans, specifically the Z cars in particular aren’t any more reliable than your average domestic. In fact I’ve seen plenty of fairly new 350’s smoking as they went down the road. So due to a power advantage, slight edge in the looks department, and the lack of reliability on the Z’s part (which is usually the imports advantage) I’m going to go with the Camaro.

Sep 18, 2008 at 12:11 pm
Camaro’s retro look is overkill, but the power package is “whats the deal”.The 370Z is using the GTR’s VQ38 motor at only 3.7 liters (instead of 3.8), and no turbos. Power to weight difference, yes, but two different sports. Camaro owns smash mouth football (straight line) while the 370Z dominates one on one basketball (road course). Cant imagine how the 2010 Z would look like, but Nissan better stay off the retro bandwagon. Neither one satisfies me on looks, but performance on “their respective stage” is both…

BLAH BLAH 370Z BLAH BLAH BLAH… Even if the thing is lighter IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT. Got news for some, there’s more to cars than merely HP to weight ratio. Both cars I’m sure go a hell of a lot faster than most would even consider driving, and common sense dictates that the Camaro will have no problem with on ramps.

Thats a hard one. I think you would see less Camaros on the road compared to the 370 since i see 350s all over the place where i live and alot of them are driven by middleaged women. But if I had to choose Ill prolly go with the Z in one of the uncommon colors but its hard since I think they both look good and I dont really care about a 50hp difference since for me 300s more than enough.

BS and alsoo to the one that said teh straightline thing damm when are they gonna make a muscle car that can actually beat an import on curves on an actual track where it matters? i own a 350z and yes i go for the Z sure a muscle car can win a traffic light race woo big deal its not the driver its the engine now give me a track and lets see whos boss when the camaros takin curves lik a whale

Put the orange color of the Z into the Camaro and forget the question. Definitely Camaro. I love the retro designs coming out on some new cars and this one is the BEST, having been designed from the great ‘69 model platform. And…nothing can take the place of the sound of a humming V8. Music to the ears.

Pathetic comments no offence, all u guys simply look at HP and Looks,
sports cars are about performance, the Z will pwn the camaro, chevy probably cant take a corner… power to weight ratio… Z all the way man seriously a v6 tht produces more power to weight or a heavy muscle car that i can buy the original for which comes with the true heritage?

K, GM’s new V8 engines are freaking amazing. i mean, 400+ horses and like 25+ mpgs. IT DOSN’T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THAT. yes the nissan would get better gas milage, but there is nothing like being behind the wheel of a horsepower and torque producing V8 engine. no amount of turbo could change the feeling. as far as suspension goes, most of the magazines i have read have said that it is EXTREMELY superior to any other sports car out there. yes it weighs more, but it has torque to compensate for that, as well as more horses. and plus, more seats, what is the fun of a sports car if you can’t share the fun with your friends in the back seat. and i would think parts would be a little cheaper cuz its an american car and not an import, and also because its american, buying it would stimulate the economy more than the stupid nissan. so i go CAMARO, on this one.

Well, lets see. I hate the new look Nissan is adding to its entire fleet of cars. However, their motors (such as the VQ35 or VQ37) are award winning and also have that beeeaaauuutiful exhaust howl. Chevy on the other hand makes great V8s. And Im not saying great because of the power they “produce” but because you can pound on the motor day after day for 20 years and it will continue to run like it is in its first year. When it comes to interiors though GM needs to take a note and learn that they have the cheapest and worst designed interiors imaginable. Nissan takes the prize there without a doubt. Then there is the issue of traction and suspension…Nissan again takes the cake because it has a wonderful crisp suspension and wheelbase while the Camaro is only good for straightline performance. My personal pick would be the 370z, I just wish I could see what it will ACTUALLY look like.

Note: CarDomain should stop doing this polls if they don’t have an ACTUAL picture of the prototype or the car itself. This fan-based photochop is the ugliest thing ever! All he did was to liquify the healigh corners and added some ugly fangs from what seems to be a late ’90s Eclipse. I’m pretty sure Nissan has better, correction, WAY BETTER designers than this guy. Reasoning… The 370Z would just feel more sporty. The Camaro is too large and is not as close to its ancestors as the 370Z is in terms of “sportability”. A big V8 doesn’t automatically make any vehicle a sports car.
