How About a Clear Hood For Your Mustang?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Want to show off what you’ve done under the hood without popping the hood? The guys at Hillbank Motorsports cooked up this nifty solution. The kit is just $1,299.99 (or $2,499.99 completely assembled). Mustang Revolution via Jalopnik.

yea.. get a carbon fiber hood… when your in an accident, watch out for it coming back at you and decapitating you…

yea, because lifting your hood up is soooo hard. taking the extra effort to lift your hood > $2500 for a clear piece of plexi or lexan.

Is it inventive? Not really. The idea has been passed around for a few years. Its it practical? No. For trailer queen cars maybe but imagine how dirty that mutha would get on a daily driver. Look at the bottom of your hood sometime. Does it scream “Vandalize Me!”? Sure but not stealing stuff. Park on the side of the road or some parking lot and some jackass who you told off walks by knowing its your ride and he has a hand full of Brillo.
I could better spend my money on a carbon fiber hood, look better and have a real purposes (heat dissipation and weight reduction ie). Call it hating but its just not a good product.

I’ve noticed that its so easy for people to complain about someone ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING inventive and new— I personally love it– I build cars and would seriously think of buying one— for those of you complainers- if you dont like what they have done- shut your mean mouths get off your butts and YOU come up with something better– you guys wish you had one but cant or wont afford it — if you stopped smoking cigarettes or drinking bear for 4 months everyone could afford one– I hear excuses—– If a car is stolen whether its a show car or not thats what insurance is for—-To Hillbank Motorsports— Awesome job and my son just bought a 08 Mustang GT and I told him Id go half with him and we install it—-Keep on swimming my fellow Motorsports patriots!! Sincerely; Priscilla Burns owner of Monzter Motorsports—

I love it!!! The price is rediculous!!! Wish some competion would come about to cover more cars and get the price down… My Tbird would look great with this kind of setup…

I dont think too many people are going to try to steal the mods off your car whether they can see what’s under the hood or not. Last time my car got broken into they couldn’t get my deck cause it’s mounted with 4 screws, so i dont think a clear hood piece is much of an advertisement. If they were capable of stealing the entire car they probably wouldnt pick a highly conspicuous modded mustang.

ahhh all you guys are saying wether you like it or not, did anyone read how much they want for it? $1,299 or $2,499 assembled…FOR A HOOD WITH A CLEAR CENTER!?!?!?!?!?!?!

What’s going on there is that is the Roush Stage III s/c kit. It places the alternator in the location you see in the pic.

WoW! That looks great! I wonder if that is the new “mystry motor” I saw in a car mag. recently..wasen’t much info available on it, hence the “mystery”.
Chevy and Ferd have, since time immorial, traded off as leaders of the pack. They both do a fantastic job of giving us automotive history.

Hmm… there is a Rustang (riced mustang) in town that has a SUNROOF cut and pasted into his hood. Looks absolutely retarded. This doesn’t look much better, but at least it’s a V8.
On that note, it’s still not a Chevy LS V8 haha…
And what’s the deal with the ZR1 having a top mount intercooler? I suppose it would be good for throttle response, not having to run through as much piping as a front mount, but what about heat soak?

Sep 24, 2008 at 12:12 pm
OH LOOK A CLEAR HOOD! Wow thats so 90’s! Dosent anyone remember the lexan hoods that came in clear and other colors…they were flops and im sure this one will follow. In the end with this hood you end up looking like a tool. Nobody wants to see your awsome plastic intake tube….I mean REALLY!

The ZR1 Blue Devil does have a clear piece in the hood so that you can see the intercooler on top of the engine. Search “2009 ZR1 Blue Devil”

Not sure which ZR1’s you were looking at, but every new one I saw at Corvettes at Carlisle last month DID have a clear piece over the cutout in the hood, as this one does:

Sep 22, 2008 at 11:47 pm
ok I went n looked at the ZR1 and it does not have a clear hood, the ZR1 hood has a chunk missing and the engine slightly poking through. much like the the “Shaker” hoods on trans-ams hemi-cudas and boss mustangs
Robert
Sep 22, 2008 at 11:39 pm
the gold supra on 2fast2furious had a similar hood setup

Yeah cool for shows I guess but a nicely painted hood looks way better any day. Plus someone would fuck with it if you didn’t keep an eye on it.

i agree with scott. i mean where i live in detroit, if you have a nice car with a loud system, just hope you have full cover insurance cuz your car would be gone 20 min after you get out of it

Been there done that! Griptuning had a metal mesh hood where you can see the engine with out opening the hood of my Dodge SRT-4. I must say it does look nice as hell. I know to prototype that was not cheap.
I like the mesh style because it cools the engine real nice and rain storms does not give me any problems. Keep up the cool work.

the zr1 hood DOES have the same exact thing. this WAS previously offered as a full plastic piece in the aftermarket, but this looks a lot less tacky. and there are definitely many more aesthetically pleasing engines than a mustangs.

Sep 21, 2008 at 5:14 am
I guess I like it. I mean some people choose to show where their money goes, while some don’t. For those who want to show off what they couldn’t before, this offers a new outlet for them. I can only imagine the next step would be a see-thru trunk for those more audibly inclined…they can call it the all new “See My Valuables” hood by the “JackMyShit” company.

It’s OK for a show car but I’m not sure how practical it’ll be on the street. Does anyone know if it’ll be available on other years of Mustangs, or perhaps other manufacturers?

To be honest I’ve never liked Ford vehicles because I was always a Chevy man. Then I bought a Dodge Ram with a Hemi and that turned me against anything other than Dodge. With all my hate towards Ford vehicles I must say that the clear view of the engine has to be the hardest thing I’ve seen yet on a Mustang. There’s only two words you should have for all those with negative comment toward your vehicle, “HI HATERZZZZZ.” People hate when your better than them, because the wish they thought of the Idea (you want them to hate because that’s when you know you’re hot shhhhhh). When they quit hatin’, start worrying then!!!!! MUCH PROPSSSS, Keep doin ya thing. You’ve made me a fan of MUSTANGS.

It looks like a bad rip off of the new ZR1 Corvette hood. If it hadn’t already been done it would be a cool piece, but it has so who cares?

Jack a Ferrari/Lamborghini engine is not that empressive like they used to be as much as you pay for those cars you should get more Gallardo $198,000 552hp Viper $85,710 600hp Cadillac sts v $72,710 469hp Challenger str8 $39,320 425hp Charger str8 $38,988 425hp so you be the judge but that glass on that is sick you put in the work you show it off
