Jeep EV

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I really love the idea of a Jeep EV, and some folks have already done EV conversions to older Wranglers and Cherokees–check out this Wrangler conversion in Seattle. Just think how amazing it would be to have all that instant torque off road. But still, how realistic is the new Jeep EV that Chrysler revealed yesterday? Does it really make sense to use such a heavy platform for a production EV vehicle? More details on the new Jeep EV at Automotive Traveler.

Is it just me or will this just dilute the Jeep brand(name?) even more than it is now. Jeeps are about more than getting over that little mound of dirt someone left in the middle of the road. I just don’t think this thing has a soul like it should.

These little revisions might help
1. swap the gas generator for a diesel one
2. nix all those heavy batteries
3. put a motor on each axle (of at least 200hp each)
4. get rid of those damn back doors
5. make sure its as capable a Rubicon
6. no fucking bling on it, it’s just gonna get dirty anyway, that and it looks terrible.

eventually somebody’s gonna come out with an EV that uses new non-lithium battery technology. Each one of these initial offerings is a notch showing progression to that day. EVs can be more efficient and have a longer range with technology currently available. We’re waiting…
