Genesis Bests the Maxima on CarDomain

This week’s Showroom Showdown was close, but the Genesis took the win, edging out the Maxima by a few votes according to my count. Why? Cause it’s RWD, baby!

Test drove both a loaded maxima and the 3.8 36K Genesis. First up was the Genesis noticed right away how smooth and quiet the car felt getting up to speed on the 4 lane. OOPS, 80 plus mph and felt like I was cruising 60 to 65, as I was gabbing with sales person riding shotgun and and the check writing wife telling me “don’t get a damn ticket.” Lexicon sound was fabulous, even the lesser of the two options. Layout was beautiful inside, wreaked of luxury or maybe just new car smell. Anyway I likey. Getting out at dealership, I noticed how tight the fit of door was when you closed it. Twas effortless in its sound of sealing. Again something that tells me wow great fit and finish. Told salesman my I was off to Nissan to try on the Maxima which I had every intention of buying after 3 months of research. Nissan dealership was busy but finally the signed me out with a loaded 37,500 Maxima. Interior was very nice. Noticed leather surfaces had a little stiffer leather than Genisis. The dash surface was also somewhat not as soft and inviting either. Ride was what this was gonna be about in my mind. How would it compare to the Genesis I just got out of. Right off the bat i noticed how this front wheel drive car just seemed to tug and pull forward as compared to the effortlessness the Genesis showed getting up to speed. Her I am getting up to 60mph and the car feels and sounds like the engine is trying to get to 75 plus in its effort. Ride is definitely not nearly as smooth and comfy as the Genesis and the cabin sound is clearly louder. Bose system was quite nice, maybe not as crisp as the Lexicon, it had a boomier muddied bass sound. Wife was sold on the Maxima before driving both, but conceded that with the Genesis for the same money you got a better ride and interior. Maybe gave up a little on the exterior styling but man that Benz looking grill grows on you. Made purchase that day of Genesis 3.8 Titanium Gray w/ Black Leather. Premium Plus Package 36,000 down to 34,500 at 4.9% $575 for next 72mo. I keep my cars for 7 to 10 years so really shop hard. Genesis badges and center caps are on the way. Will have a Bently look with the wings and not a Hyundai badge left. Covering airbag badge with Genesis badge too.

Please the Genesis has nothing on the Maxima. Lets see which one will hold its value and quality better in the long run. Last time I checked the Nissan 3.5 engine which the maxima has standard. Has been consider one of the top ten engines in the world for well over 10 years in a row.
