American Le Mans Series: Afternoon Test

By Jen

AKA SusyBruisy

Though teams have been fine-tuning their rides at the track for days, today was the first official test session for American Le Mans Series cars at Road Atlanta. It was a pretty unusual session in that the top 20 fastest lap times were all run by prototype cars—apparently, there’s typically a more even spread between the LMP1 and LMP2 cars and the underdog rides in the two GT classes. Moreover, the diesel-powered No 2 Audi R10 driven by Marco Werner and Lucas Luhr came out on top, beating its own Road Atlanta record lap time, set last year in qualifying, by nearly 2 seconds. The top ten cars bested that record as well, a testament to just how much the prototype cars as a group have improved in the last year amidst the Le Mans series’ fiercely competitive atmosphere.
