Sweet Shelby Slot Car Track

By John Coyle

Editor

Since I thought Restoration Hardware was just a place to buy overpriced doorknobs and designer hammers, I was surprised to see this wicked Shelby slot car set on its website. It comes with a pair of cool little Daytona Coupes, but the thing I was really stoked about was its 63 feet—63 feet!—of track. A comparably priced Carrera set comes with a measly 25 feet, so while I’m wondering what the quality is like, given the difference in footage, I think I’d be willing to take a chance on the Shelby set. Can anybody spot me $250?

That Ebay set has lots of detail, but only 2 lanes. I tell ya 4 lanes is the bomb and for better racing. I had my old one set up like the old Riverside Raceway, Riverside, Ca (now buried under a Mall). It sat on a 8×10 platform and took up half the garage when I first got my house. You can find the cars on Ebay from $10-50 depending how rare. G-plus cars are the way to go!

they should make this as a course for drifting for real cars

That looks really cool! With something that big, you would have to dedicate a room to it, otherwise it’s just going to get messed up when someone steps on it; unless you like taking it apart after every use!

Any suggestions on where to buy just the cars (like this, and other types, too) that don’t cost $25 ea.?

Ive got one thats made by Arin that is 14ft in overall length. It is no where as intricate is this track but it is probably around 50 ft in length. I would have it assembled but you really need an entire designated room to have it out. They take up so much space and then clumsy people walk around it all the time they might step on it. The worst feeling than your mom telling you to put the track up is someone stepping on it, especially the cars.

Oh yea the good old days I remember getting race cars/tracks and electric train sets for christmas. I think I would buy something like this just for the hell of it.

I miss those days of playing with my race track and challenging my dad to see who would win.
