BMW 335i Coupe vs. Audi A5: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
Many of you know that Ryan, our marketing guy, has a pretty sweet Audi A5. So for this week’s Showroom Showdown I decided to put it up against its main competitor, the BMW 335i Coupe. Both cars come in near the $40k mark. The BMW is RWD, weighs 3,571 pounds and has a twin-turbo inline 6 which produces 300hp. The Audi is AWD, weighs 3,737 pounds and has V6 which puts out 265 hp. Which would you choose?

wow this is a real good servey for me cuz im looking to purchase one of these sweet rides…i love the front end of the beamer but the back end of the audi..interior goes to audi hands down, but performance and speed goes to the beamer..my heart leans towards the beamer overall, however im a canadian boy and my brain tells me AWD audi…tough decision for sure but i say BMW

wow.. iam trying not to now laugh at the child who is calling those 2 punks dick heads? i dont like a evo , but even a 03 lancer evo can kill both of these cars.. please be more realistic about it ok. that twin scroll 4g63 motor launching from 4 wheels is alot more direct and precise then these 2 car can ever launch. definately murder these 2 vehicle in 0-60” and 1/4 mile time assume equal driver , equal launch. but is this even the TOPIC??? so child, please be quiet when your not asked a question, okay?
but i think we are getting off topic, lets get back to the bimmer and audi. the bimmer has a nicer front end in my opinion and the audi has a nicer rear.. (damnit) and for horse power 1 has a inline6 with twinS to spool it up to speed so its definately faster than 265non-turbo inline6 RESPONSE. but if your talking out of the box then it will be quiet a hard decision both company worked hard to campaign both of these cars, so the last and final decision is up to the buyer. what are you looking for speed? looks? interior level of luxury? or a little bit of all of thy above.

I have to agree, both of these cars are awsome, both are luxury sport cars and both have incredible amount of design and technology put into them. But for me the BMW would be my choice since the AWD adds weight and the twin turbo just sounds so nice especially in a Straight 6 Design which is uncommon for most car makers now a days. But there both great cars in the end

DICK HEADS 08 EVO IS ONLY 290 HORSES AND ITS NOT REAR WHEEL DRIVE AND ITS NOT FASTER THAN THE M3 U IDIOTS WATCH 2 MUCH FAST AND FURIOS NO MATCH TO THE M3 DO BETTER RESEARCH

…. even a hyundai genesis will kill both these well built also well known car.
cheap koreans – and there lame engeneering has even suprass bmw, audi … and sad thing its got 4 door………………..
what has come to this world and you morons???
if you want luxury buy a real luxury car, ..because if you got smoked by a cheap brand .. especially hyundai you deserve to eat a pile of crap, thanks!

laughs* i would have to go with the last comment, if you want cheap luxury then you choose between the 2 cars bmw vs audi. but if you want performance even a 03 evo will damage these 2 rookie(s). single turbo, twin scroll 4g63 motor, from a 2.0 litre? laughs* its embarassing if you ask me! that a 22k$ car .. matter fact its used, will still terrorize these 2 vehicles everyone is applauding.
with 3 thousand dollar.. then evo will out run anything in its way low 13’s on street tires @ any given time. hard throttle = head smashed to the head rest-
its up to the buyer, wise decison or dumb decision only they can make it!

both gay cars… V6 bmw 335i twin turbo making 300… v6 audi a5 making 265… both luxury car.. cost 38-43k..
i can buy a used Evo Viii and still blow your door, hood, wanna be- grille, and even roof off- 19k$-22$k 4 door also Awd. lol both car are for you other lame drivers* who want to look rich with a crap mobile that cost.. 38k-43k$

the bmw, totally, it’s got a way better power to weight ratio, it’s rear wheel, so you’ll never have to deal with understeer, and it’s fucking sexy.

Based on performance, I would go with the BMW-its lighter and has more hp
But If I were going for looks, I would go with Audi-the A5 looks waaaay better than the 335i

Audi for sure. I’ve seen a couple on the road and they turn heads much more than some cookie-cutter BMW.

A5 ne questions asked. 335I is a great car performance wise but the Audi has the win in every other category. Get an S5 if you want to be the performance leader too.

I like the audi, the 335 is a lil overplayed, i see em around too much where i live, as for the audi only thing is the power is a lil soft, 265hp? i expected a bit more.

Audi! I saw an A5 the other day and it looked GORGEOUS; sporty and luxurious. The bimmers look great too but I couldnt take my eyes off the Audi. Performance wise the bwm is better but I like the balance of the A5

The audi has a great interior not too mention a great engine, but they just dont seem to really aim for high performance numbers when it comes to their cars. The 335 is amazingly quick and great in the bends but with a base price of 35k you dont the quality interior. If you want the luxury interior found in most german cars, you end up hitting the 50k mark rather quickly.
–I’ll go with the BMW though.

Audi without question. Best interiors in the biz, they know how to build cars. Bimmers, like Mercedez are only getting uglier.

I’ve owned a 3 series and a A4…A4 is quicker with less horsepower than a 3 series…but I go with the Audi A5, now the S5 is a crazy…

Oct 16, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Hmm. Good Showdown!!! Both cars are great looking and performing, but I’d probably go with the Audi mainly because there are far less Audi’s roaming the streets than BMW’s. Everyone’s got a Beamer in LA, so drop a few thousand bucks of accessories into that Audi and you’ll be ballin!!!

I’m really quite drawn to the new Audi’s, so the A5 it is (now if only they sold the TDI’s here, that would be so much better). That and BMW’s image has been really tarnished by douche-bag bankers and wannabe’s, that and they’re hideous doesn’t help.

I’m a big BMW fan, but in this comparison I might take the Audi…
.
I’ve grown really fond of Ryan’s A5, and in my opinion, if your going to get a 3-Series, the M3 is the ONLY way to go. In this case I’d take the Audi, but I would way rather have an M3.

I’d rather have the extra $10,000 per year it would cost in addition to the sticker for all the maintenance you’d have to do like the Edmunds M3 long term tester.
Well, actually, the Audi would be $15,000. [grumbles]

The new Audis are so nice and have a more modern design than the bmw. Neither is a real racing car so I would take the Audi for the interior, looks, and AWD.

I live here in Greenville, SC, home of the US production plant. I see more BMW’s here than Germany, since employees get sweet deals on leases on any car BMW makes. For that reason only, I pick the Audi.

Oct 15, 2008 at 6:34 pm
That is a damn tough call. On one hand, RWD, lighter weight and more power is all pretty nice. On the other, the AWD would be handy. Especially up here in the rain and then the mountains with snow, the AWD would be nice to have, but I don’t really see that as a snowboarding vehicle. BMW for me.
