Fiat Donkonobox

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Since everyone’s always saying that the whole donk thing is over, you can bet people will probably be looking for something besides Caprices to slap giant wheels on. Who knows, FWD subcompacts like this Fiat 127 in Greece might be the next likely market for 26-and-up rims. The builder here might’ve been going more for pro-touring than hi-riser, since they kept the ride height almost as low as stock. But either way, a project like this means major surgery: think five-lug conversions, elimination of front-strut suspensions, and bodywork—lots of it. More trouble than it’s worth? Definitely.

I have 18″ rims on my car and because they are a good style and fit nicely with the car..I have 4/5 *’s on my cardomain page..(245/45/18)
I think the MAX size that looks good on cars is a 22″ rim,ONLY if you are utilizing them to fill in open wheel well.
Raising your car up so you can fit on 24’s-28’s Looks incredibly stupid I have yet to see ONE single “DONK” car that I like even slightly and most of them have really dumb airbrushed cartoon or candy product names on the sides which makes it something worth laughing at. When you see a donk owner trying to get up into their car just makes me say to myself…”what a f*cking idiot” …not to mention how impractical the whole thing is.
Bottom line ..Rims over 22″ (for a car) are pointless ….I’ll see you along side the road puttin on your 14″ spare doughnut and tipping to one side all the way home…after you hit a pothole!
To quote on THIS picture…granted the car is sort of lame in it’s present form…but the work done on the fenders to fit the tire into the car right…Is the right way to do bigger rims on a car that probably had 13’s on it from the factory. Nice work so far..to whoever modified this car!

why is the only place i hear “donk” style cars is over. Most people i know thinks thats the only way to customize a car. thinks that the “fast and the furios” cars as you call import tuners. you guys commenting on hi-risers, donks ,or the car game as people that actually know call it, is like a black guy from the city that only listens to rap and R&b saying “oh country isn’t popular know one even listen to it but a few rednecks”. that would be ignorant considering country music’s popularity. idon’t know what this bloggers thing against “donks” but it will always be around because thats what hood dudes do. the suburban kids may stop it but the where posing any way

donks always have and always will be a waste of money, time, and skill. they dont look cool at all, (they look like my baby cousin’s hotwheels cars) and the drivers are usually beligerant, arrogant, and ignorant… they dont care about the driving experience or handling or gas mileage at all they just want attention. (how immature.)

The Donk trend isn’t over. We’ve been doing this in the south for years. I want to see the finished product, but this car was a definite waste of $$.

Sorry to say, but that is a FIAT 147 and it is in BRAZIL. I can see because of the banner saying “Parcelamos em 6X”.

Please, I beg you to change where it says that this car is in GREECE. IT IS NOT. It is in BRAZIL.

Oct 16, 2008 at 2:49 pm

That looks truly awesome, just needs some candy paint. People can’t believe it when they see 18″s on my C2, so imagine what they’d think of this!

More trouble than it’s worth? Definitely! It’s not even worth your blog, Jen. Try to put in something better here next time. Just leave the owner of the ride to himself. In his own world.

yet another reason i ask myself “WHY is DUB/DONK/etc” even considered as style? each to his own though, but..it still makes me wonder how its considered stylish.

Anonymous
Oct 16, 2008 at 5:38 am

I find over sized rims a little stupid one u hit a pot hole with realy low pro tires on rims like these and its all over with, plus what good is when the little engine needs to strain to get over sized wheels going any way ya its different and i give the owner props for it but damn people use ur heads.

Oct 16, 2008 at 2:09 am

If you have to severely modify a vehichle to fit wheels at its stock height then they are too big! Donk = Gay. Fiat = Gay. 26″ wheels on a ANY car (sedan or coupe) = Gay.
