Car Wrap?
GTI Guy
I don’t know about you, but I always find myself wanting to change the look and feel of my car. I was considering getting my car painted, but then I stumbled across full vehicle wraps. It’s a great alternative to painting, and it even protects the paint underneath. Might be a sweet option for the whole lease—trick out—drive—un-trick out—return to dealer type of tuner.
You can pick from a ton of colors, including this slick carbon finish going on a new GTR and R8. The cost is about $2,000 for an entire car, and that’s arguably less then a quality paint job. It’s definitely cheaper then getting your whole car in carbon fiber. Apparently this can even be done in a day. What do you think? More pics after the jump.

Thats not printed. Its actual weave laid on top of cast vinyl. Printed CF looks like crap. This stuff is amazing; textured with depth. Oracal, Hexis and 3M all make their own style, in a array of colors. You won’t get this done for 2K though. Looking at 3500 for a full wrap on a car.

hey if anyone has any questions on this subject just hit me up on the email l0stmykeys@hotmail.com i work at a sign shop and we print on this stuff all the time its called orcal 3551 ra rapid air the reason its different from regular printed vinyl decals is the glue backing its sprayed in a web to allow ALL air bubbles to release its like nothing ive ever used before heat shrinks its and expands it to make the curves really neat stuff its got an advertised life of 5 years plus 3+ if its has a laminate over it which makes it twice as thick cost installed at our shop is about 50 cents no laminate or a buck a sq foot laminated printed or not only difference is design time but for those of you trying to solid color their ride i believe with an extra set of hands anyone could do it weve me wrappin cars for about 6 months now and havent messed up a single printed panel you can jus pull it up and re adjust it with no issues but it has the be the 3551 RA the RA is important if you order it yourself!!!!

Looks pretty cool, but how durable would it be? I mean, at least with a normal paintjob when the fat idiot in the giant four-wheel-drive parked next to you hits your car with his door, it doesn’t do too much damage, but how would this stuff stand up over time?

Does it cover rusted fenders or do they make tape on bondo to lay down first?

It does look pretty good but how would you fix rock chips, scratches, etc, and still have it look good.

I’m pretty sure Team Hummer lost their wrap mid-Bullrun to keep under the radar – call it a bonus side effect!

Dhillaz, they did this and used it for a getaway in the movie Taxi. Gisele Bündchen turned her BMW745 from Red to Blue or was it Blue to Red? Who cares, I was looking at Gisele anyway.

It would be great for a get-away car: just peel off the colour and swap the plates to change its identity.
