Bloodhound SSC Shooting for 1000MPH

By John Coyle

The current land speed record stands at 763MPH, but for the team that set it, that’s just not fast enough. Right now, they’re working on a new car, dubbed the Bloodhound SSC, which is being built to  achieve a mind-numbingly quick 1000MPH. That’s literally faster than a speeding bullet! The car won’t be done for another three years, but the BBC has posted a cool video that shows what it’ll look like in action—head over and check it out.

Assuming they do a good job making it nice and streamlined, with no flat underside sections, it should stick to the ground nicely. Even bullets that travel at these sorts of speeds are still greatly affected by gravity to the point where they drop regardless of velocity.

I wonder why they are going with a single engine design. The last time it was shown that the dual engine design was far more balanced than the American’s Single Engine Design.

Oh well… Good luck guys!!

Just enough speed to rip your ears off so you won’t hear the wife nagging!

It’ll take a shite-load of downforce to keep that thing from getting airborne

That’s only 1467fps, not exactly fast by today’s standards, but most bullets you will find today start at around 1000fps but go up to 4000+fps, of course it depends on the caliber, the cartridge, and a whole slew of different variables.

that would be amazing if they could capture something like that!

Are they really going to do the bullet test?
