Another October, another weekend of camping with the hippies on Kelley’s Island, just off Cedar Point in Lake Erie. I joined the LEAKOIL crew (that’s Lake Erie Area Kombi Owners Involvement League) for their annual pilgrimage celebrating all things Campmobile and Weekender and got down to the earth for a few days with my family. Campmobiles are some of the coolest things out there – a VW microbus, Vanagon, or Eurovan with a full RV hookup and sleeping space for up to six. Weekenders sleep five, are equipped to hook up to external power, and according to my spouse, are sufficient for our needs. Did he really say that? Yes, he did! The LEAKOIL crew did a great job of selling him on one of my secret desires – I want to own and travel with one of these beasts. The best versions are found up north, where Diesel Eurovan Weekenders are plentiful. I have this crazy idea that sort of purchase could solve my tow vehicle and expensive hotel room issues on track weekends. Am I nuts?
