What's Your Favorite Car from an 80s Movie?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I think I’m going with the ‘64 Malibu in Repo Man. Ryan had never heard of Repo Man, which made me feel old. Here’s some trivia on the car from IMDB:

When filming began, they only had one 1964 Chevy Malibu. It was stolen a couple of days into filming, forcing the film crew to scramble to find a replacement. Shortly after finding a replacement, the original was recovered by the police undamaged. This was fortunate timing because about a day later Fox Harris severely damaged one of the Malibus by accidentally plowing it into a gasoline pump! In the carwash scene, one of the gas pumps is clearly severely dented up and damaged. This is the pump Fox plowed into in a previous take.

No special effects were used to make the Chevy Malibu glow while parked at the repossession lot. Instead, the car was completely coated with 3M reflective paint, at an approximate price of $600 per bucket.

So what’s your favorite car from an 80s movie? Post a link to a pic!

i am going to have to say i vote for that 1974 Dodge Monaco Sedan painted black & white to resemble a recycled former police car. “they were practically giving them away” It’s got a cop motor…440cubic inch power plant.cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks…and it runs on regular gas.”Our Lady of Blessed Acceleration, don’t fail me now!,”

If it has to be a movie it would be that low budge movie The Wrath with Charly Sheen. He drove a dodge daytona concept that was kick ass. But if it was a TV show there is no question it would be Don Johnson’s Ferari Daytona in Miami Vice or his Ferari Testorostia.

The “Family Truckster” station wagon in Vacation with Chevy Chase. I’m sure most of us remember riding in similar station wagons during the 80’s. Oh, let’s not forget Christy Brinkley in that Red Ferrari!

The ‘79 Cadillac Coupe Deville that got smashed to hell in the movie “Cloak & Dagger.”

All of the cars in “Goodfellas”
ie: ‘61 Impala Conv, ‘63 Riviera, ‘64(?) Chrylser Conv., ‘67 Grand Prix & ‘78 Coupe Deville!!!

The Black car that Jack is talking about is “THE CAR” from the movie the car, built by George Barris {THE MASTER}in 1977. I know it is not a 80’s movie but… that car is just too bad ass to leave of the list!!!!

Jake Stefinashen
Nov 2, 2008 at 3:17 pm

I need help, there was a movie produced in the 80s.. I think..
It was a black car, and no one drove it.. it was driven by the devil? Some things I remember from the movie, the car traps a guy in this shed/garage, and starts up and revs the engine and kills him.. The car ends up getting killed/smashed at the end of the movie, were it goes off a cliff, and gettin crushed by bolders!

Someone help please!

I think one of my favorites from an ’80s film would be from the movie “Cobra” starring Sylvester Stallone. He drove a 1950 Mercury. That was one sharp car. Big, long, heavy, and silver! Fantastic looking ride.

The GTO in My Science Project 1986 , with the blower sticking out of the hood. Nothing like instant major horsepower to scare the girls. I think he got it up to 120-140mph, can’t remember. If this was for 90’s cars, Eleanor hitting the nitrous would get my vote.

Wow , look how many people don’t bother reading what the topic is before posting.

“What’s Your Favorite Car from an 80s Movie?” 80’s people not whatever you want.

Elanor does not count. that remake was in 2000 the original was in 1974

the escalade in are we done yet – 2007 are you a moron.

but with my rants being said, here’s an 80’s era movie vehicle that seems to have gone unnoticed

how about LoneStar’s Winnebago from Spaceballs.
I mean come on people a motorhome that can fly in space, hover in one spot inside a giant maid, run on concentrated liquid schwartz and leave skid marks in space.

Yes Nes!!! Christine was from the 1983.

1958 Plymouth Fury “Christine”

2 1973 Chvrolet Impala’s “Batman” 1984 Batmobile (it took two cars to make the Batmobile…)

1959 Cadillac Professional Ambulance “Ghostbusters” Ecto 1

The first two DeLoreans from “Back to the Future” and “Back to The Future 2″ (the third sequel was released in 90′ effectivly disqualifying it from this list…)

1980 Pontiac Trans Am “Smokey and the Bandit II”

(ok so the 1977 T/A is actually more Iconic, and one I favor more, but “Bandit” needs to be included just the same. The 82 T/A is also nice, but ‘KITT’ cornered the market with that body style, even though That car…And KARR…cannot be officially included in this particular list~80’s movie cars)

The high-tech, computerized Subaru hatchback that Jackie Chan and Michael Hsui drive in Cannonball Run. It has everything a guy could want gadgetry, a rocket engine and a built-in TV on which Chan watches porn! haha

I’d say KARR from Knight Rider. Even though it was only for one of the two episodes with him in it, if my car had Peter Cullen’s voice, I’d crap myself every time I get behind the wheel.

It’s the car from National Lampoon’s vacation. Based on a Ford LTD, it was called the “Family Truckster”, but when we were kids we called it the “Wally Wagon”. So ugly it’s good.

Has to be the Bluesmobile from The Blues Brothers (1980) It’s a 1974 Dodge sedan, and if you haven’t seen this movie, go to youtube and search for the shopping mall chase sequence. My god the shitkicking they give this car!
Quote from movie:
Elwood – Uh oh.
Jake – What was that?
Elwood – The motor. It’s thrown a rod.
Jake – Is that bad?
Elwood – Yup.
