What Did You Do This Weekend?

I found another early first-gen Escort—two of them actually, within about a five-block radius. Combined with my car, it was probably the densest concentration of first-gens anywhere in the country at that moment, not counting the junkyards. I also swapped out my Escort’s starter, and discovered that a bolt had fallen out of the roll restrictor, the mount that anchors the drivetrain to the front crossmember. (This explains the Mystery Bolt that showed up in my parking spot one day). The sloppiness that had been plaguing my Escort’s steering completely went away after I tightened stuff up.

went to my custom garage, they had an open door day and wanted me to show my car as one of their customer rides, cool huh? and i bought a new wire cover.

Installed a new power latch in the driver door of the ‘bird, PS window switch too. waxed the replacement hood and headlight covers.

Oh, maybe I forgot to mention I swapped for a matched hood & light covers with paint in much better condition, also got a window switch and power door lock/latch… all for 60 bucks?

Also found a grey leather interior with rare optional front seats. Working on closing a deal to swap the camel (caramel?) interior for the grey leather.

I took the ACT and worked on paint problems with my ‘Scort. Something dripped on my paint and ran down the D. side fender and ate my fresh paint. So I am repainting it. Fun when the high is 45 f and my paint doesn’t dry below 50. Also blacked out the rear valance between the lights. Had fun.

I bought my current car, a 1997 honda del sol for 2500 bucks.
And i had to work. my weekend was awesome, only because of the car.

Wrestled with the air pump and hoses for the LT1 in my Jeep. Trying to get it CA smog legal has been a pain because they want to see the air pump included (got chucked during the install in Michigan). I found the air pump and hoses from a 95…but of course the connections are different for the 94 my engine is. It’s been a big headache for something that doesn’t even make any difference in California. Stupid smog.

I finally cleaned up my car to confirm, to my dismay, that the asshat that scraped my car coming out of a parking spot did some nice paint damage on the corner of my bumper. Great.
