9-Mile Buick GNX on eBay
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
If I could go back to the future, I’d hook a tow-dolly on my DeLorean, set the clock to go back 20 years or so, and haul home something like this never-titled, never-registered Grand National GNX with 9 original miles on the odometer. Turns out that if I had an extra $100K lying around, I wouldn’t have to! Less than 3 hours left on the auction.
Many thanks to Eric for finding this!

man this car is the shit, i have an import 94 celica awd turbo running 325 to the wheels and if someone offers me the grand national, i will def. take it.. to me it doesnt matter import, american muscle, whatever it is.. as long it has horsepower its fine with me.. and you cant lie, that is one sick car… guys need to get over this muscle VS. import argument.. its gettin old and tired.. i love both equally.

To say a civic can out run this rare and powerful gem is crazy talk not even vettes could run in the same pack as the GNX 100,000 is a little steep but hey if can afford it go for it oh and to civic owners i dont want to hate on you there great cars and can be hooked up right that means extensive engine work other than that though my saturn eats you for breakfast more horse power and lighter body oh and fart cans dont add horse power they just cook your valves dumbasses.

ha ha, i love it how people say a civic could take down a GNX, these were the fastest production cars throught he 1/4 mile for a while, no vette or even mustang of the day could outrun one of these, there werent very many fast cars coming from the 80’s, yet this car can easily still outrun most cars out today, i know a coupel friend swith civics, alright, some arent bad, but pick your battles, if you have a 100 hp 4 cylinder, dont go trying to take down american muscle, whether it be a 600hp 454 big block or a 426 HEMI, or an insane turbo 6 cylinder Gale Banks inspired buick

And Tiga, it’s obvious you suck dick. And don’t be mad this car is if legal age and you’re not and it has more value in it’s wheel valve stem cap than you.

If I had $100k to dump on this car, I wouldn’t blink a second time before I signed the ownership papers. So many people are dissing this car, saying it’s slow and ugly and Buicks suck. Today’s Buicks are not impressive. But this one, the fastest production car of it’s time, innovative in being fast American car with a turbocharged 6 cylinder engine. This car is just beautiful in the sense that it’s appearance reflect it’s purpose, to be fast and aggressive unlike some of your stupid little POS imports that some of you deuche bags own with their fart cans, NOS stickers, 3ft tall spoilers, and referee whistles in the air intake to make it “sound turbocharged”. Half you punks on here talking mess, your crappy little Hoop-D’s would be staring at the trunk the entire time you’re getting smoked.

About a year ago, sure, that price probably would have flown. But only on a stage of Barrett Jackson or some other similar historic car auction. Problem is, with the economy the way it is, not only are supercars’ prices plummeting, but so are the collectors cars like this beautiful GNX! So in answering your question, no, it’s not worth the high sticker price TODAY!

Great Car, worth saving in a box somewhere. But this car isn’t a 70 hemi cuda found somewhere with 9 miles on it. A 9 mile GNX is not that rare since people knew these cars would be rare and many of these cars have been hidden away and not driven. Plus with the current car market and economy, this car at $108K is way overpriced. I’d rather buy a hemi Cuda or a 454 Chevelle vert or a superbird, which will probably cost me less.

Look, I’m an owner of a turbocharged Integra. A fan of imports, but more of a fan of turbos. But to put my import conterparts in check, do understand that the GNX/Grand National is a classic…point blank. If there ever was an “Automotive Hall of fame”, this is a classic to be remembered. A Civic would not have a chance in HELL to ever be inducted into such.
Give respect guys, if anything, those that are import fans, should give thanks to the Buick Grand National because of the inspiration of turbocharging a small displacement motor and making it lethal. Only a handful of Japanese cars would be condidered classics, but bow down to a BOAT Load of domestic muscle that will forever be classics!

For one. This car stock is a beast. Realize this car was over 30 years ago and will still smoke 90% of the cars on the road to this day stock. I personaly dont think it is worth 100k… nore do i think a skyline is worth the price it is. 100k for a decked out 2009 gtr with a 480hp 3.8 liter turbocharged… save your money. 80k for a 2009 vette with 620hp use that 20k to turbocharge/tweak it… 12lbs of boost ez 850+hp bro. The Skyline/GTR isnt the shit, just another hyped up import. There is no replacement for displacement, remember that.

Why do you tuner drivers feel the need to bad mouth muscle cars. Have you ever driven a GN or a GNX there amazing cars, the feeling they have when the boost hits is simply amazing. Ive never driven a GNX and i doubt i ever will but i have driven a GN and its so much fun to drive. My buddies GN ran 13.5 in the 1/4 while running extremly rich with a stock turbo and 15 pounds of boost so if you ricers think your civic with bolt ons can take a GN or better yet GNX you have no idea what this buick can do.

tigashrkaftadrk- Who the eff is this guy? Why are you comparing this car with today’s cars? This car was built in the 80’s, and people don’t build cars to hang with future competition. Thats why they build another generation. The GT-R is NOT a skyline you tard. Its just GT-R if you had a fucking brain. And of course the GT-R will smoke the Buick. It has 480HP and enough computers to let a 2 year old drive it without crashing. At least when you bought a Buick GNX back in the 80s, you DIDN’T have to sign a paper saying you won’t modify it. And you could take it to the track and GM wouldn’t know about it, so it wouldn’t void your warrenty. Last but not least, turning the launch control on in a GT-R voids your warrenty too, but the GNX doesn’t have any of that stupid computer shit so you didn’t have to worry about that.
Real cars don’t need to be commanded by computers, only their drivers.

You know, for a civic to keep up to a GN, let alone a GNX… is going to need ALOT of money in parts, and not just some bolt on stuff either.
to own a piece of history like this would be amazing. to you guys out there that wanna trash this ‘over priced american’ car, well have you ever driven one? do you even know whats under the hood? do you know where a GNX has been for tuning? do you really know anything about this car? or do you just think its another V8 powered Buick Regal?
this car is freaking AWESOME!!! but i dont think its worth the sell it now price, not even with 9 miles on it. but i still would rather this beast, than ANY honda civic you could show me. this car has something a civic never will have. Character. its not a mass produced car meant for good gas mileage and driving your regular civic route… this was meant to be DRIVEN and enjoyed.
all im sayin is dont trash something because its not from where you like your cars to be from. research a car before you decide to knock it down. OR better yet, TRY and get someone who owns one to let you test drive it. (if ur havin a tough time finding someone who will let you drive theirs [or who owns one in the first place] thats because of the extreme rareness of this ride.)there werent a billion of them made. shit i dont think there were more than 50,000 made. if that…

Unbelievable but seems true. What a piece of classic beauty! Something people who understand what they are talking about will really marvel at. Very expensive though. Tigashrkaftadrk, just do what you love best. Suck dicks so you’ll be quiet with your mouth full. And, no, I don’t wanna be an idiot like you.

talk about details. the dealer not only has all of the original paperwork and magazine articles, but he’s taken the time to even preserve maintanence parts like the battery. Always loved the Grand Nationals. It’s like they are the only true performance car ever made, and to find a car that is exactly as old as I am in “new” condition is simply astounding. Kinda like that “new” ‘69 Corvair that turned up awhile ago.

Hey, there is one of these exact cars in a mueseum in FLINT Michigan with 58 miles on it never thought I’d see one with 9 miles on it though, did anyone drive these cars or did collectors nab all of them??
tigashrkaftadrk, you don’t understand the term “collectable” do you? duh this is an old car, but it’s cool to MOST people that it only has 9 miles on it, and in 1987 this was one of the fastest production cars so this was a huge deal.

That car is so fuckin’ cool. Black never looked so good on a car. I’d have to buy 2 of ‘em though cuz I’d want that one for value, and one for pleasurable driving

In 87 Buick gave 570 or so of these cars over to Mclaren, and they put a bigger turbo on it with an intercooler, tweaked suspension and just about everything else but the engine block.
The last year of production 87, some of these cars were said to have 300hp, with almost 400Lb ft Torque. Caranddriver did tests where some were capable of running 0-6o in 4.5 seconds.

If you talk down about this car then your stupid. Last year of production of these cars in 87, so Buick made it a beast. Fastest production car that year, even over Corvette. The GNX is not a force to be rekend with. With 7 miles in 12 years, I would think this ultra rare car would pull more then that.
