Mustang Mach III Concept Makes Concept of Blindness Attractive

By John Coyle

Editor

This is replica of a Mustang Mach III concept Ford built in 1992, and personally, I’m glad the Blue Oval never choose to mass produce this thing. Seriously, doesn’t it look like the offspring of a really portly Pony and a old Hyundai Tiburon? In all fairness, it’s pushing over 400HP, and I actually kind of like the interior. But the best part about rolling in this abomination would be not having to see the full extent of the bodywork. Apparently, the original concept was destroyed in a fire, which almost makes it seem like the Mustang gods were sending a message. Don’t miss my walk-around video of this heinous machine, and check out some more photos of its criminal styling after the jump.

Please!!! Thats a nice car! You act like the 1994-2004 model resembels the original pony car. Just cause they took a step away from the mold you all panic. No it doesn’t look like a mustang, but it’s still a nice car.

I remember seeing it in a magazine and while I never saw the original I think it would have been FAR better than what Ford eventually put out. I’m sooooooooo tired of these stuck in the past dumbasses that always want every car to look the same as the last one did. Push the envelope and come up with new designs. One thing they would have had to do is rework the rear end otherwise it looks pretty good even today.

I remember seeing the real deal back in 1993 at the New York Auto Show. It was a very nice looking car, better then what we see here. Ford’s styling at the time was producing cars with more natural flowing lines. If you take a close look you can see some styling ques used on the sn95 Mustangs. For examples: Pony grill, ‘94-95 rear tail lights, ‘96-98 Mustang Cobra hood scoops, double bump dashboard, and I believe it was the DOHC 4.6L s/c.

Oh and for all you car buffs there was a sister car made by GHIA on this exact body.

well I had the unique oppertunity to see the real mach 3 in real life and up close alittle history about it. for the detroit auto show where it was first shown it was in red and there was alot of buzz around it people liked it. I worked at ford at the time at the PDC program development center. the car came in there for a new paint job the second paint job was that mystic color. after painting it. i seen it getting rolled down the halls and then a few minutes later i heard the most wicked motor start up. it was the truck driver loading it on an enclosed trailer. after talking to the guy for a few he showed me the car. it had a 429 and a 4 speed with a bad clutch because the only time it was driven was on the truck or off the truck. it had a battery in the trunk and a boat battery switch to turn off the power to the car. the gauges were one off the interior were one off. if my memory serves me right the car cost something like 1 million dollars to develope and build. I would have given my left well you know the rest of that saying to drive it. after that it came back once more that i seen and got a red paint job again. I shortly after that left ford so i haven’t seen the car since sad to hear the original burned in a fire . was it a mustang no I own one now but it was a nice car. and the fact it had a 429 made it worth alot more in the coolness factor

It has some redeeming features, and lines.

The actual production is not too far off, lot of the same lines and interior.

“Way” too rounded, they should of stuck with more of the
“Mucel Car Look”.

All I know is that body stye was the UGLYest, P.O.S. Ford ever came out with besides the PINTO, And the fact that poeple bought the 4cyl is as sad as it gets.

Well, at least I know what the demise of my ugly ass Civic will be. I solemnly swear that if I ever see one of these on the roads I will hunt it down and beat it demolition derby style.

It looks about like 60% of the actual ‘94 Mustang, which is what it was meant to do. Concepts are to probe the publics opinion before a practical and cheaper to build mass produced car comes into place. There have been uglier Mustang drawings/cars, believe me. I should have a Ph.D. in Mustangology. Think this one is wierd. Try looking up the ‘69 Mach II concept for instance…

Looks like a Mustang got “Probed”! …from the front. The rear? Well it looks like its fat ass is waitin’ to…

Shape reminds me of late ’40s, early ’50s idea of futuristic i.e. streamline trailers yadda yadda

MB and Toyota? Odd combination. Personally I hate most Toyotas, the new ones anyways have no soul, they are the definition of a boring cookie cutter appliance car.

Back on topic, I always thought the Mach III was a pretty neat concept, not very good looking, but still kinda cool.

My first ever model car that I ever owned was this exact thing.

Same color, wheels, everything.

I thought it was cool.

But then again, fuck Ford, GM, and every other US auto manufacturer…

Mercedes-Benz and Toyota FTW!
