1984 Rothmans Porsche 962C in the Dunlop Booth

When the kids on my block were getting into RC cars back in the day, the Porsche 962 model was the hottest thing around. And even though I didn’t know anything about its impressive race record, the second I saw it, the 962 became one of my absolute favorite cars. For a while, it even surpassed the Lamborghini Countach as my number one—no small feat in the early ’80s. So I was beyond stoked when I saw this baby in the Dunlop booth. It was the second 962 Stuttgart made, spent two years racing in the International Sports Car Championship, and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in ’87. Until now, I’d never seem a 962 in person, and standing next to this machine made feel like a little kid. Check out a bunch more shots after the jump.

THAT is what I’m talking about.
Is it just me, or are race cars pretty much always cooler than show cars?

What a beauty! The 956/962 Series was/is still one of my favorites and right up there with the 917.
