Tough Tundra in the SEMA Toyota Booth

By Mike Musto

AKA Mr. Angry

This matte black Toyota Tundra short bed was just kinda lurking in back of the Toyota booth. The cool part is that this rig is puting down 625hp… AT THE WHEELS! Talk about a sleeper. These are the kind of vehicles that all of us hot rodders want the manufactures to build. On the inside it’s stock Tundra with some little hot rod touches. A triple gauge pod, big ole’ tach and fire extinguisher keep the go fast theme in check while the steels wheels make the its appearance a little more old skool authentic.

One more thing. I’m not a Toyota fan. Matter of fact, I’m sorta anti. But this truck is everything I like. Clean, basic, unassuming, and stupid fast. If it were a flat black regular cab Ram with steelies and a blower I would have put it on my desktop. Why couldn’t Dodge or Ford sell that? Seriously. Are marketing teams mentally challenged? Who here would buy a monochromatic regular cab 2wd pickup with steel wheels, manual windows, cloth seats, a manual trans, a tach, short gears, decent rubber, and 400-500hp for $25k? Say “me.”

If it’s got some head work done, some forged internals, and is running more boost than the publicly available trd blower, then 625 should be no big deal. Notice there wasn’t a “For Sale” sign on it. Certainly Toyota can afford to build a one off motor capable of making that kind of power. That doesn’t mean you can order it at a parts counter.

Toyota simply raided the trd parts bin in order to create this truck. They wont sell the truck like that you have to buy the parts and have a dealer install them this way all the parts r trd so they dont void your warranty!

considering the engine alone boasts 381 hp and 401 ft/lbs and the supercharger brings the hp ratings up to 550 i cant imagine the 600 hp that it states it has is that hard to come by. the superchargers for the old tundras were discontinued because they produced a 50% hp increase in the 4.7 liter engines and they obviously werent handling that too well. as for the air box, it says trd all over it, its far from stock. but for 6k you oughta at least get a friggin air box.

Doesn’t look like a 600 horse engine to me…

…damn thing still has the OE intake.

i supercharged my 2000 tundra. Pulling 380 horses blew my engine to bits.. Good luck keeping this together..
