All Up In Their Booth: Hyundai at SEMA
By John Coyle

There were only six cars in the Hyundai booth, but there was a lot of excitement. The 300HP Genesis Coupe is almost ready to drop, and the sedan version has been getting good reviews, so the Hyundai folks were in great spirits. Rhys Millen was on hand to reveal his tuned version of the Coupe—think wide body, carbon fiber everything, cage, more ponies—and there were also versions from Street Concepts and HKS. Rides and DUB Magazine also delivered editions of the Genesis sedan, and both offerings looked super slick. Along with the custom cars, the Hyundai brass also showcased an supercharged version of its Tau V8 that uses variable displacement technology. It’s the first of its type in the world and I thought it was pretty sweet. But more than anything? I can’t wait to see what the kids start doing with the Coupe once it hits the street. Tons more pics after the jump.

Finally…a Hyundai that looks like a Hyundai and not like some other stolen body style from a well respected automotive company.

Some of these comments make my head spin. Are you people dumb? Ignorant? or just plain stupid? For example, the Rhys Millen Genesis Coupe does not have “exhaust pipes” coming through the trunk. The Hyundai Genesis SEDAN is currently on sale, and has been on sale for almost 1 year (West Coast) and about 8-10 months (East Coast.) The coupe, which is also RWD should be arriving to dealerships around January. Hyundai has been at the top of the market for the past 3-4 years, consumers are just too narrow minded to see that. (READ: HONDA AND TOYOTA ARE NOT ALL THAT THEY CRACKED UP TO BE)
Regardless, Hyundai is one of the few (you look around) that is building larger cars, with decent size v6/v8 engines. Everyone is downsizing, and Hyundai is expanding. The Genesis is doing exactly what it was built to do, CHANGE THE MARKET!!!!

Anyone who doubts that Hyundai is a world class competitor in all genres of the automotive market has certainly not crawled out from under their rock in the last decade. I have an 02 Elantra GT that is STILL an awesome car. No troubles to speak of, and fun to drive in spite of the modest power plant it came equipped with. Scion better watch its back…

The Genesis is already on sale, i saw like 3 of them sitting outside. With that crappy window chalk, someone wrote “new 2009 Genesis!”
also, that first car on this is freakin tight as hell. exhaust pipes through the trunk are tight as hell.
