6 Speed Challenger R/T at CarDomain Headquarters!
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
We just got our hands on a 6 speed Challenger R/T. Man, it’s easy to roast the tires on this thing, even with the traction control on. The car feels pretty porky, but it sticks through corners. I think I preferred the overall proportions of the Bullitt we had last month, but the Mustang doesn’t come with a Hemi or IRS. Anyway, we have the Mopar for a full week, so stay tuned…

I drive a 2009 challenger srt8 6 speed, let me tell you that the interior is all about the menice of the car, it compliments the “get out of my way” attitude the car delivers. the interior is beautiful, pics just dont do it justice, they dont do the whole car justice! Sure its not the high profile flashy interior of the camaro, its not supposed to be, the car was meant to look like it could go fast in a very descrete sort of way, not the hey look at what im driving type thing, it is the whole idea of muscle. These cars were never meant to be real flashy, the interior agrees with that. sure it may not be ultra futuristic, but the car is all about the bad ass feel you get when you sink into those racing seats and slide ‘er around a corner!
man dodge did a great job!

There are many wrong views on the new Hemi, it DOES have a hemisphereical chamber although not shaped like a half grapfruit, it has been updated to an oval instead of round design. It is a joining of old HEMI and new technology. This was done to get maximum HP from a smaller cubic inch. So to answer the “non informed” it IS a HEMI, just updated to todays technology and governement standards. ALL manufacturers have had to go back to the drawing board to get maximum power. As far as the “plastic” comments, obviously you have not looked at the GM and Ford products, ALL are full of plastic, my sister has a Mustang…. Talk about PLASTIC, they just chromed it for the “pretty” car look… The negative writers have never driven the R.T or the SRT, try it, it WILL change your mind (unless you are brain dead)! I looked at all the offerings and went with an ‘09 SRT 6 speed Challenger. The GTO (Holden designed and being reintroduced due to GM loyalist dislike) and G8’s are nothing but modded GrandAm’s with a V8. Run great but look like cockroaches form Japan. The do the great engine no justice. The Challenger and Mustang have hit the nail on the head as far as looks, the Camaro would have looked better if they didn’t cater to the 18 to 25 year olds that probably won’t be able to even afford one anyhow. They took what would have been a great car and Japanesed it. I didn’t buy it to look at the interior, you should have been around to see the OLD muscle cars interiors, they were purely BUSINESS and ALL plastic ! The only Mustang that is faster in a straight line is the KR500, it is supercharged AND $82,000.00 (almost double the SRT8 Challenger). The price just doesn’t justify the 75 more HP, again with TONS of plastic AND an antique (read: non handling)ass end. The Camaro will also be heavy, loaded with plastic and out of reach for the first year or so due to dealer raping. Pull the pacifiers out of your whining mouths, read, drive or search for the REAL info on a “targeted” vehicle (ANY) before crying in print. You won’t sound so Highschool Hairy and non informed ! Bottom line… If you want a THUMPING V8 it’ll be surrounded with plastic. The Jap/Euro’s are just FILLED with “fancy” plastic, and sound like my ass after a night of Mexican food.
Support any of the big 3…. They build true AMERICAN Muscle.
Hey, you guys at Car Domain have the BEST job possible, you get to beat them AND get paid !!!

Has anyone taken the time to consider that under all that plastic covering, there is a fake hemi? The new “Hemis” don’t have hemispherical combustion chambers, the feature that gave way to the Hemi brand name back in the day. And agreed, the interior is boring. Muscle cars were stripped down, yes, but they still looked advanced for their era…this looks like cheap dodge plastic to me. Muscle cars didn’t look cheap.
Meh, at least it has a manual instead of an autostick, right?

I can’t understand how you’re all ripping on the interior. Muscle cars had plain interiors. They were simple stripped down cars with big engines and little comfort. Grow up.

I’ll have to agree, the interior is very bland. It looks like the interior of those toy cars sold in Walmart.I love american cars but but this is embarrassing and disgraceful.

I liked the way they looked on the road but I was wanting to see the interior. Talk about dropping the ball. UGLY flat plastic interior. Its not even two tone. It looks like it came off a stratus or some other crappy dodge product. I was bored with it just looking at the picture. It doesnt say “drive me fast”, it says, “look both ways before crossing the street”. Sports car body with a mini van interior.
I am waiting for the day Dodge, Ford and GM go under (in the order) American cars suck. All the technology and engineering of a calculator with half the resale.
If it said “New Dodge Car” instead of “Challenger” no one would buy it. But all those baby boomer dinosaurs will croon and swoon to feel young again. Then they slap a “HEMI” sticker on it and the red-necks come running.

I looked at a R/T at the local dealer and I think it looked great and I love the fact that I can get my three kids in the back seat… I fired it up and it sounded DAMN nice! I love my Mustangs, but the looks and the five person seating could entice me if it wasn’t for the WAY OUT THERE price and the SEA OF GREY interior! Dodge, please give us a few more interior color choices. The interior is SO BLAND!

I’m not even a Mopar guy, more a Toyota/Chevy guy, but damn… these things are sexy. I remember seeing a couple while in Vegas for SILV this year, and I gotta say… I can’t wait to take one on next year when the Supra is back on the road

I think it’s AWESOME,that the car makers are doing these retro cars of the 60’s! Iv’e always wondered why they didn’t do it sooner! In the later 70’s and 80’s they made a lot of crap! Sure there was a few nice ones. But mostly boxy boring crap! no creativity or thought put in to them.
It’s nice to see some Hot Muscle back on the street.I’m a GM guy myself but I think this car is Hot! So is the Mustang!
I can’t wait for the new Camaro! I would like to see an early 60’s style G.T.O ! 64-67 style!

i keep hearing about a (VANISHING POINT) edtion to be coming out in 2009 to be all white anyone heard anything on that? there to be all white like the one in the movie! them JUNKSTANGS are so over rated! and only reseason the bullit junkstang gets any attention is from Steve Mcqeen, if he’d been in Vanishing Point, they’d claimed it was greatest car chase movie, more car action in Vanishing Point and even Diry Mary & Crazy Larry had more ACTION !!!. i’m really a GM guy, but i think Vanishing Point edtion Challenger would be the stuff, Ford had to run to roush racing to get any horse power out them junk motors that i’ve put so many rear main seals an head gaskets on all ready, don’t there enginears now how to produce horse power have to go out side the home office like before with Carol Shelby, if not for Carol Shelby there’d been no real muscle JUNKSTANGS, and being a GM guy myself hate the new Camaro look think it sucks GM been better off leave it on the drawing board, the only car now that seem to have kept to the true looks from the muscle car era is the Challenger,!!! only wish had the pistol grip shifter! best feeling shifter ever had in my hands !!!, ford stands for > Fu*ked-On-Resent-Deal! and they circle there problem! why there an oval around there name plate!, but why oh why Mopar build a 4 door charger, or they’d been on the high in sales before this!

Hey Paladin06!
How’s it going buddy? Piranha from DCP here… I’m sure you’re enjoying your new SRT8. I’d love to get your version, but a)I can’t afford it and b)I want something a little more fuel efficient… Still waiting for the job situation and the prices to come down. My local dealer wants $45K for an R/T ($11K over MSRP- that’s NUTS)! Anyway, I know you’ve already got the FIPK on yours. Have you seen those cool SRT stipes (ala “RT” from the 70’s)? When I finally do get mine, I’m planning on the old RT stripes, FIPK and Foose “Challenger” chromies! I’m planning on the Hemi Orange too, so I’ll be your little brother! Take ‘er easy bud!

It’s still lighter dumbass. And whether it’s lighter or not it is still a MUCH larger car. It is both longer and sits higher than the new camaro will. How about you do your homework. And the Challenger gets terrible gas mileage. Chevy and Ford sports cars are quick and still get great mpg. Therefore, that perfectly justifies calling the Challenger a boat. It is STILL heavier, BIGGER, and gets WORSE mpg than every other sports car that Ford and Chevrolet manufacture. Also, it costs a LOT more than the camaro and the new mustang will. Those Challengers aren’t going to sell for shit.

RE: “fake hemi ford guy”
Seriously man? How can you justify calling the Challenger a boat when the Camaro only weighs about 100-150lbs lighter!? Nearly identical HP, price, and MPG. Do your homework before you decide to be an idiot on the internet.

Well the Dodge’s HEMI is a F-A-K-E anyway, so I guess the Bullit takes the cake all the way around huh? And no Ford product ever has such a tacky plastic engine cover! Only cheap Hyundais and apparently now Dodges. I’m assuming it’s because they’re trying to cover up their pathetic idea of a V8 motor. Also the gas mileage is HORRIBLE on those things! Absolutely terrible! Sorry, Dodge, Chevy and Ford are both still outdoing you. Shouldn’t have even tried to compete in the sports car department. The new Mustangs will keep selling well and the 09 camaro is going to leave no one wanting to buy one of these BOATS of what Dodge so calls a “sports car.”
