‘Cuda Cues on a Challenger?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I saw a few Challengers at SEMA with ‘Cuda styling cues—like the grill on this Mr. Norms car, and the billboards on the CDC Group 2 Challenger. Honestly, I’m not sure I approve of this. Are we going to see Camaros with Firebird cues next year?

I like the cues, but I wish the people doing them would take some of the challenger cues off the car, like the TA hood, taking teh dodge emblem of the hood wouldn’t hurt either. If it had a shaker hood and something that looked more like the 70 grill, that would be bad ass.

is it me or hasn’t the new challenger always resembled a ‘cuda more than a challenger to begin with. Dodge should of just named it the ‘cuda and been done with it. I think the styling cues look freaking sweet too. If I had one I would paint the AAR flat black stripes on the side. would love to get behind the wheel of the 6.1 procharged!!

Personally, I think the new Camaro is ugly. GM just doesn’t have a handle on the whole retro thing, but I think a new Trans Am or Firebird would definitely help the styling. I’ve liked the drawings I’ve seen so far. On a sidenote, what I really wanna see is someone, hopefully Dodge, turn the new Challenger into a retro-looking Superbird!!!! Shelby’s got the KR, So a new ‘Bird would definitely complete the new muscle car lineup!!!!

Screw the camaro! bring back the Firebird!
The drawings/renderings I’ve seen kick so much ass!

I’ve always wanted them to remake each generation, in order.

I’m sure there are more than a few tuners who are frustrated that there is not a Plymouth version to work on. Since Chrysler killed the brand, the only recourse for these guys is to apply Cuda history to the Challenger. GM hasn’t killed Pontiac yet, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility that a Firebird conversion will occur, there is a fanbase for this as well. It quite possibly will come in the form of a showcar from GM itself, provided GM survives its financial woes. If not, then a tuner will do it, and there is nothing wrong with that. It’s “possibilities” explored.

its not a bad thing at all Rob. Like tony said below, its all about individualisation. If chrysler cant make a cuda since the plymouth brand is gone, why not make a challenger look like one? If GM cant get their heads out of their ass to change a few pieces of sheetmetal and double their exposure with a firebird, why can’t we? It’s the same thing people have been doing forever. Turning 90’s models caprices into Impala SS clones, changing the trim on an old tempest to make it a GTO clone, etc.

Good question there Rob. They almost have an identity crisis. But I don’t think new Camaro owners will install firebird cues…but I could be wrong. But overall, I don’t think it’s a bad thing at all. Afterall, it’s all about individualisation.
