The domestic auto manufacturers are not the only ones having trouble right now. Check out this photo of imports stacked up at the Port of Long Beach. Full story on the huge glut of imported cars at The New York Times.

Some very surprising and un-insightful comments here. What the photo demonstrates is that our entire economy is slow and suffering, not just the US auto industry. The domino effect has hit all forms of retail, even grocery sales, Whole Foods Markets sales have declined (just one example). So it is not surprising to see a lot over flowing with import cars.

I saw a pile like that in the 80s. It was a bunch of subarus. strangely most of them were white. Needed glasses to drive by them..they play with thousands at a time I could guess.

if we flood the economy by printing money and say, give everyone a few thousand dollars, all we would end up doing, besides buying a lot of crack and blow, would hike up inflation more, as it would devalue the dollar even more; a level playing field would worsen any economy and send dollars and companies and jobs even more overseas, as there would be no incentive to create wealth in this country; people and companies who have money are rich are that way for a reason, and i tend to agree

no easy answers here; i, myself, can’t stand the new social system we are getting ready to have come jan 17th; once we become a social society, like canada or sweden, it will be hard going back; most people are clueless when they think we should tax the rich more; tax laws are written to help business and companies keep their wealth; anyone who is so called rich, makes very little taxable income, its all spread across their business enity; a simple sales tax, based on purchases, will eliminate most of the tax woes we have; rather than taxing people to death on sin tax, tax it all, except food, and eliminate many so-called business deductions, and you’ll find the coffers full once again.all big companies, from the ceo’s to the little guy on the floor have one thing in mind, their own selves, no one starts a company, to better the world and not make a buck…quit fooling yourself and letting the media spin this into our minds

It doesnt take rocket science to figure out the more people get laid off thy cant pay for anything and the economy get worse

So instead of bailing out the auto industries and banks why not flood the economy with cash by giving it to the people. If the poor folk have money to spend we can spend on whatever we like and create more jobs by increasing demand. Spending means the companies are getting money and the companies getting money means the people get jobs and people with jobs make money in which they can spend. Bottom line is the American public needs to spend money to strengthen its economy. We need to spend money on american products. If we make an excess of product we can export our goods instead of importing everything we need. If we run out of material resources the sure import resources export goods. Strengthens the whole worlds economy.
