New Honeycomb Humvee Tire is Bullet and Bomb-Proof

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I’m surprised we didn’t see these in the DUB booth at SEMA. Developed by Resilient Technologies and Wisconsin-Madison’s Polymer Engineering Center, these new honeycomb non-pneumatic tires can support a heavily armored Humvee, survive an IED attack, and still make a 50 mph getaway. They were designed to provide an alternative to the current run flat tires used by the military, which have often left troops stranded and vulnerable after being shot or blown out. Full story at CNET.

I had seen some like these on a volvo. Obviously they were street tires instead of offroad but the technology has been around for quite some time. at least 5 years i’d say

They ok, but the wheels and rims need a different color. Then they would be off da hook.

“Boss Masta” is trying a little too hard to be “ghetto”. I have a feelin he is just a skinny white guy who lives in Hollywood, in his daddy’s big house, who is trying to be a “badass” and talk “gansta”. Ohh and thanks Flavoade for the info.

BOSS MASTA needs to shut his stupid fuckin mouth or learn how to talk like a normal person! I’ve seen his comments on other stuff before!

that is like the “TWEEL” that was supposed to come out for passenger vehicles.

JR they are just military for now. I checked the site and it says commercial coming soon. I read about these in a mag, they will not go flat but the drawback is they are not rated for high speeds. You will probably be limited to around 60MPH, until more research is done.

I would love to have a set of these “tires” for my dodge caliber… I have to take that sucker down a lot of alleyways and end up with enough nails to build a small house by the end of the month. Does anyone know a link to a place that sells them for normal cars?

I want a set in 18″ low pro’s. Pneumatic tires have been around forever. Surprised they haven’t been outmoded yet.

Michelin was developing something very similar to this, called the Tweel. It had one problem though: at high speeds it would make a whole bunch of noise, and maybe vibrate; I can’t remember. Does this honeycomb design have the same problem I wonder?

Whether the US Military uses them or not is another matter. They have a history of starting ambitious projects, and then canning them just after completion regardless of the results.

Wasn’t michelin or someone else developing a similar concept for cars?
