ROUSH Nitemare

By Dave Rivers

UberDrive Magazine

Inspiration—that is something that is shared between this particular ROUSH pickup truck and a nineteenth century novel. ‘Nightmare’ was the original term for the state later known as waking dream, first credited to Mary Shelley in her novel ‘Frankenstien.’ Anonymously published in 1818, the story came about one stormy night in a cottage on the shores of Lake Geneva. Together for the evening, Mary, her husband and Lord Byron challenged each other to write the most fearful ghost story. In 1831, she revised her first novel, Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus, and republished it under her own name.

When it comes to the ROUSH Nitemare pickup truck though, there is nothing anonymous about it. Back for a second run, the 2008 version was distinctly different from the original black-only predecessor. Once again limited to a run of 100 units, this flare-sided implementation was made available in three colors—black, red and the gleaming white version we were loaned for a long weekend.

Starting from a standard cab, F-150 FX/2 model ensures that this dream isn’t carrying any excess weight. Under the hood, the ROUSHcharger power adder boosts the 5.4L, 3-valve engine to 445-flywheel horsepower and 500 lb-ft. of torque. Additional go-fast pieces include updated intake manifolds, intercooler, radiator and air induction system.

Aside from the color selection, the most obvious change for the new model is the inclusion of 22-inch chromed wheels. A revised graphics package also sets the newer model apart, while ’stealth’ badges do nothing to hide the fundamental nature of this beast. Driving the truck around the Detroit area elicited only one of two responses from other wannabees—either a ‘thumbs up’ gesture, or an attempt to make some snarling noises out of an anemic aftermarket exhaust.

Haha! I don’t think we should fix the posting thing ha ha. No offense guys who got their webpage and name abused and slandered but it is a little funny.
Derrick (who deserved it anyway), You don’t need to personally attack another person on here. That is very immature. He just posted his opinion for others to read it. That’s what this is: an opinion line. Now you can leave yours without sending out personal attacks. Otherwise you will get them back like this. Don’t be one of those immature jerks on here who attacks the guy below him just because he doesn’t agree. No one will ever agree on anything. You just make yourself look like a jerk in front of girls like me on here trying to read other people’s thoughts on that nice truck.

It appears to me that someone is abusing the posting system around here.
Oh, and I also think there is to many of “Me” around here as well, I think there is 3 or 4 of us. (Never knew the way my name is spelled was so popular, and yet people still spell it wrong.)

Just thought i’d let you know, I did not post that I’m gay post. that was some immature douche bag. the reason i posted the SRT-10 post is because you would think that ford would try to beat it but yet they made a truck that can’t keep up with it.

trucks are only for driving through walls, driving through dirt and carrying lumber and couches. there is no point of a performance truck, thats what sports cars are for.

I don’t see the point in a performance truck… it goes fast, for its size and weight, but only in a straight line.. but good lookin’ truck though.”

News for “Dunkel Mann”… Performance trucks can be fast and have good handling too. I have a 1990 GMC Sierra that I’ve slowly been working on, and with the way I’ve got it set up it already handles better than most cars I’ve had, and I haven’t done much to the suspension yet. Granted my truck only weighs in at around 3000-3500lbs, so I don’t know how these newer 5000lb monsters handle, but I’m sure they can hold their own. My point is if you know what you’re doing, you CAN build a “performance” truck that will handle great. It’s all in how you do it.

I own Nitemare #39 (2007). These wheels are 22’s and lighter wieght than the 20’s on the 07 Nitemare. They’re not nearly as appealing to the eye but better suit a performance truck. The graphics package change- lame. And the color options- white Nitemares?- no thanks, blacked out headlamps- it’s stupid they were ever chrome to begin with, Pereli’s over the 07’s Goodyear rubber- again, just correcting bad original decisions. The new plastic grille- junk compared to the nice aluminum billet that preceeded it. In my opinion they shouldn’t just keep making the same Nitemare every year with minor changes. Foose, Boss, Saleen, Roush, Harley and others all have powertrains puting out the same exact horse power (445), everyone is slapping a SC on the same block with the same boost! Lack of imagination? That’s where the changes need to be made to create some separation!

As tempting as calling a vehicle “nightmare” might be, it’s a double edged sword that seems pretty sharp to me…
