Hoilday Road Trip, Cheap Gas
By Ryan Porter
Smart Car Dork
I don’t know what you guys are seeing in your neck of the woods, but I couldn’t believe that it only cost me $16 to fill my tank on this holiday weekend. Oh, by the way, those seven gallons will get me 300+ miles in the smart!

I could be greedy and say I wish it’d keep heading south, but this may be as good as it will get so I’m going to hold on to the thought of an SUV or full size pick up for now even though I could use the cargo capacitiy for dragging home oversized tools, parts, and vehicles.
GTwildfire
Nov 30, 2008 at 4:31 am
BTW, it’s been as low as $1.68 further south in Jersey. Probably going lower. MAYBE will even see $1.00 per gallon gas again someday.

I filled up the Grand Prix on Wednesday in Jersey on Wednesday night. Asked for $30 of Regular. Most Stations there are manned by folks with thick accents, and I was about to pull away before I realized I had CHANGE coming to me… two bucks.
-
I was completely unaccustomed to getting change at a gas station, unless I needed to use the air pump or something like that.

My civic used to fill up with $15 bucks too! I don’t know how many miles it would last my for but it would last me for a good 5 to 6 days. Depending on the driving.
Now with my T-bird, it takes $38 to fill up and it will last me 3 to 4 days depending on the driving. I only get 18MPG city 20MPG highway. Not bad compared to the $65 back when gas used to be $4.65.

Gas around here in South Chicago Suburbsis anywhere from $1.80 to $1.49. The question is how long is it going to be that way, and we can’t look to the “experts” because they’re the people who said gas will never dip under $3.00 a gallon.
