American Breed 2008

By Ron

aka WayTooFurious

Sunday was a great day for me. I got to attend the American Breed 2008 show. Run by the 60s American Car Club, the show caters to all American two- and four-door cars and rods. Although attendance was down because of some really bad weather on the previous day, it still turned out to be a top event. The show had a wide range of cars from 50s Caddies to classic American muscle like Chargers, Mustangs and Camaros.

However the one car that left me really puzzled was this Firebird. Someone has obviously gone to a lot of trouble to combine a classic 60s Firebird front end with a more recent Firebird body. My friend John loved it but I didn’t care for it that much. What you can’t see in the photos is that the modern car has a steeper angle on the front which I thought did not sit well with the older bonnet. So what do you think?Good or bad idea? More pics after the jump.

Unfortunately some mongrel caused a bucket of problems for the owner and VICROADS had deregistered it .. just come people are horribly jealous

well the back end looks amazing , but that front end needs to be raised up 5 more inches an squared out to match everything, but in the end would only end up looking like the challenger next to it!

I love it, I think its gorgous. Not enough people are trying anything different anymore. Someone with this kind of creative vision diserves praise. And im not even a fan of Pontiac. He will never lose it in a parking lot, thats for sure.

as far as retro-modern combo’s goes, this is by far the best ive seen. Although, the front seems just a wee small

This is not the first time that I see this. This one is actually good. I saw this once, some guy made his 4 gen Z28 into a 69 Z28. Here’s the link.

i would have to agree with others that commented on the nose being too long and at a weird angle…but other then that the rest of the car looks good…thumbs up!

I THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BEST IF THEY JUST PUT THE OLD SKOOL BODY OVER THE NEW INTERIOR/CHASSIS/ETC SO IT WOULD LOOK RIGHT ON THE OUTSIDE AND NEW ON THE INSIDE……

The back looks decent, the front doesn’t sit well with me. A lot of hardwork though. Drive it yes, buy it probably not. I like the old cars with modern parts and all, but redoing the bodywork… different story.

Hmm.. Normally, I don’t like these modfied cut up jobs.. BUt, this one works for me.. And, I am a huge fan of the 60’s coupe.. the Cpillar on muscle cars are so nice, and I don’t mind the 5th gen firebird C-pillar on this car.

they need to do some of this stuff in detroit i think if they would come back with some of these styles that were popular in the late 60’s and early 70’s they would sell great and also sell them at a price that an every day joe could aford like the mustangs i like the challengers but there not a every day guy type of car in the price range but it would be sweet if the auto makers would listen to the buyers and do this they might not have to file bankrupsy but they will never listen to us look at the last few years there back to making tin cans again instead of cars like they did in the late 80’s you had to push them up a hill and let them roll in to the junkyard i drive a 72 dodge truck with a 340 and i would put it up against anything on the road thats been made in the last three years as for performance i also drive it across country and never have any problems getting were i want to go the best part its payed for and only gets worth more every year i dont think the cars and trucks they make now will last as long as it has. 626thumper

VERY Cool looking, but something isn’t quite right. Maybe the windsheild is to long and flat. It kind of reminds me of a new vette I saw with an older corvette conversion kit.

Put some vintage style Kragars on that Bird raise the front justa tad everyone of those i remember sat back on it’s haunches like a big cat fixin to jump. The T Tops i can take or leave. The rest is cool!

i like it!! good craftsmanship since its nicely molded and all!! wonderful work i think

The black Firebird should have been done on a convertible F-Body, the T-tops and the roof bar ruin the proportions since the car seems longer.
Still a very good job, but It should be done on a convertible to achieve a better looking conversion.

the back looks bad as, the front isnt bad, im sure it took a shit ton of work to get it like that tho

i dont think the firebird looks good at all. it would have been a better idea and spent money to me just to build the 67-68 firebird

stunner front to back but none of yu mention de rear side panel loving it like McDs on the hood great job. i like it 10stars better than original one

Dec 3, 2008 at 6:07 am

I think if it were a convertible it would look better to me, the roof-line doesn’t match the other body contours, but I will say it looks like fine craftsmanship. Just not my cup of tea.

I like the firebird, no one else has one, and it doesn’t look terrible.

It’s evil goddam genius. I guarantee this, someone makes a body kit that’ll do that and it will sell.
-
Drinks are on me for whoever created that.
-
There’s only one fairly minor weakness (wierdness?). The very shallow rake of the windshield is totally different from that first generation. I can’t fault others for hating that but It’s not a deal-killer for me. I’m very impressed.

Really its unique and one of a kind I say Kudos

The front is to elongated for the classic nose, but the rear looks perfect and works on the body of the newer bird. I agree the craftsmanship is dead on and the shop does great fabrication work.

While I must admit that I am not a fan of that Firebird “conversion,” I completely respect the amount of work put into it. The fit and finish on it is amazing.

Dec 2, 2008 at 1:35 pm

I don’t think the Firebird is too bad. I admire that whomever did that integrated the parts into late model sheet metal so tastefully, and did a great job blending the lines. The nose does need to be about 2 inches higher, and it really needs to lose the T-tops. From here it looks like he also has a set of twisted spoke Torq-Thrust II’s on it. Those need to go too.

the early 60’s C10 is sick, the hemi orange plymouth is sick, the firebird made me sick. from the back, its not that bad, but the front is an abortion.
