Forge Diverter Valve FTW

I recently installed the Forge diverter valve with atmospheric spacer on my GTI and it’s honestly pretty sweet. Translation, my turbo now makes that cool and uber desirable ppppsssshhhhhhtttttt sound every time I shift, and it fully restored my boost numbers. In my case, I installed the replacement diverter because the factory valve (shown below) failed shortly after my car was chipped.

Installation was a little tricky because of the tight location of the factory diverter valve and I actually had to bust out my 3/8th inch drive with the flexible ratchet extension to get to one of the bolts. After removing the factory valve I simply attached the replacement valve and ran the necessary vacuum hose to the engine’s correct boost line. They included great directions and all of the necessary hardware for the install. Total install time four hours, but if I did it again it would probably take me an hour.

So far I’m happy with the unit. Boost is restored and seems to hold stronger, and my turbo lag feels significantly shorter than stock. Forge makes replacement valves for all sorts of makes, so if you need one check em’ out.

Here at the VW dealer I work at we see a lot of chipped rides with different “cut off valves”. They all come to us for over boost codes or melted Cat Converters. Or in one case the aftermarket valve they put in released so much boost that the car had no boost left when you went to take off. It was clearly just there to make the Psssst noise.

Make sure you see your dealer for the Q8 headlight plug recall, and the “pressure regulating valve” bulletin. Oh and VW cat converters list at $700.00 for BPY engines, and will not be covered under warrenty for a chipped car. Just letting you know from expierence.

True ^ The car is a MAf based system and does require a DV as opposed to a true atmospheric BOV. Essentially this motor requires that air is recirculated back through the turbo system as opposed to vented into the atmosphere.

I’m assuming your GTI has a MAF-based system, which is why you require a diverter valve as opposed to a true blow-off valve.

My Duster is a MAP-based system, so I used a blow-off valve vented to the atmosphere.

If you have a turbo car, you totally need that PSSSSSHT when you shift!
